  1. gosh I agree so much! There's so many little things (like so minute, that it could actually be some sort of tie breaker at Area) that our flutes that sit our constantly miss. But our flutes who are always in don't make those mistakes. I want to fix it for everybody and make it look consistent, because the flutes who DON'T have problems look AMAZING. I know the section could be OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD ALL the time if we had everybody always marching.
  2. Seniority to me doesn't matter at all. It's about maturity and dedication to the program as a whole. If you have a hardcore freshman out-marching a senior and who practices every waking moment to improve himself, and indirectly improve the program, then I feel they are more of a leader than the senior who actually IS section leader, but just shows up because they have to. I hate to admit it, but I feel like we have that problem in our program too.
  3. they say they have injuries to their legs, and that if they are going to march at games, then they need to sit out as much as possible. frustrating. Our director talked to our other section leader about it today, and both agreed that it was spreading worse than the plague. (at the beginning of the year, we only had 2 flutes sit out constantly, now we have 6! out of 17, that's quite a few missing people...)
  4. and how our flute section currently is... It kinda makes me mad that I get snapped at for trying to improve the fundamentals of the girls who always sit out during warm-ups. It's not my fault that they don't march fundamentals, and therefore don't get the one-on-one time that would be more beneficial to everybody than me having to point out little things during drill.
  5. that's insane. no finals? I couldn't live with a competition like that.
  6. I guess you can... we haven't gotten D.Q'd yet, so that probably means yes. I don't see anything wrong with it.
  7. yah I wasn't quite sure of the bottom two spots. I was trying to go with names that I recognized. My bad. lol.
  8. I wish Pine Tree was going to Area. Maybe it's a mass boycott?
  9. you'd be surprised. It's weird watching kids that are 8 trying to dance to techno music.
  10. Newman Smith is lucky to be hosting such a great Area competition. It'll be well worth it in the end.
  11. that's odd... Kinda makes me want to go to new york a little more now. lol.
  12. Really? why am I not surprised...
  13. Oh yah... Area C: top two: 1. Poteet 2. Waxahachie Alternate: JJ Pearce
  14. Top Ten: 1. Sherman 2. The Colony 3. Aledo 4. Centennial 5. Birdville 6. Juan Seguin 7. McKinney North 8. McKinney Boyd 9. Arlington Heights 10. Crowley (top four state... and so on)
  15. Didn't colleyville do the show with FLight of the Bumblebee? I loved that flute solo. =]
  16. While I do feel like there's a lot where Bell is holding back musically, I was still entranced by their show. It has some of the most insane drill I've ever seen before... of course they're not going to die out on the END of a trilogy.
  17. yah, they did. Seguin 6th, Birdville 9th. Interesting Area B... very interesting.
  18. And oddly enough, it's "the infirmary" that always misses it. We almost did them last year because of flute angles, but they fixed it instantly, so I'm hoping the same sort of result comes of this and we don't actually have to do push-ups.
  19. yah, it doesn't help that I haven't seen them since I went to the HEB contest, and I know that both performances aren't true reflections of those band's true potential. Although, if Birdville was able to take on Seguin and place so much higher than them... who knows...
  20. we have laps for when you're late to practice or when our director just kinda gets fed up with you. I'm not sure if section leaders are allowed to assign push-ups and stuff for their section to do (I personally don't see anything wrong with it as long as we do it with them so it's fair punishment for all). But I had to "motivate" my section today by saying that we will start using push-ups every time they miss a straight line that the flutes make during set 9. Of course, I'm being met with a lot of opposition because we haven't made that set since we learned it back in August, so that would mean a lot of push-ups.
  21. I just hafta say that both Little Elm and Lake Dallas' new directors this year are my heroes. =]
