Haha, somebody's obsessed. TTR: PROGRESS!!! Somebody just uploaded ALL the Centennial High School band videos since we opened 6 years ago onto youtube. It's shocking to see how far we came in just 4 short years, from having easy baby drill and music to qualifying for the TSMC. wow.

Well, at least that way we'd "get the best of both worlds!!!" hahaha... I can't believe I know a song from Hannah Montanna... But I do think that once one of the major national bands out there does a piece successfully, that the piece really shouldn't be attempted again, unless the program taking it up is confident that they'll be able to top the previous performance. For example, if I see another band perform "Pan's Labyrinth" in the future, I'm just going to say... "well, that was nice, but Bell pulled that off nearly flawlessly back in 07" unless they totally sweep the floor with their performance.

This sounds REALLY cool, but super expensive too... I'd like to try that once though. -
Area B Marching Band Contest

Ehh... Colleyville has a shot, but I'd put Creekview up there before Colleyville. I'm thinking Wylie may be able to squeeze up into the state spot... -
The Metronome...

A few clicks is right: Centennial's show the year of state last year was exactly 7:50, at exactly the right tempos without breaks. Throw in a few seconds of pause between each movement and a tempo variation here and there... and you're cutting it close. We literally finished at area finals with EXACTLY ONE SECOND left. tempos are important. -
Is supportive of the supporter of the losers.

TTR: uhhhh............... HOMECOMING!

Why am I no longer a music major? Two words: Aural Skills. Let's just say, we have grad students who come in from other music programs across the nation that struggle through this class. And I'm just a freshman! hahaha. It's sooooooooo hard, and I don't have the time to deal with it.

The Metronome...

Hmm... that's all interesting. Idk, like I get the idea of counting out loud rather than the metronome, but The kid from Marcus had a very convincing argument. I guess I'd say yes for maybe the first two games... after that no. -
That is a GOOD question that I couldn't tell you the answer for... How should I try to fall asleep now, despite being addicted to having nyquil help me sleep?
-
hah, well I've actually never heard of it before.... But I'm sure you're research has led you to the best college!!!! And I'm officially no longer a music major! haha.

thinks I'm a loser, and we've already established that I'm not. =]

The Metronome...

So I was just thinking about this. I remember seeing a bunch of bands using a metronome during their first few football games use a metronome during a marching show. I always used to think that it was a cop-out, so when I found out Marcus used it during their football games, I was SHOCKED. I did talk to a student from Marcus in one of my classes here at UNT about why a band like Marcus would do that, and he told me that basically there was no point in marching a show EVER without a metronome unless your tempos were 100% PERFECT. Soo, after his explanation, it totally makes sense to me why bands would do that. I guess I had never really thought of it in that way before... ANYWAYS! all that long explanation to say... How many of you in your bands actually do this? And what's your opinion on using the metronome at football games? -
Area B Marching Band Contest
borchnork replied to queso2992's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
last year when we found out Southwest didn't make it to Area, we all tried our hardest to shoot for top 3, so I know the feeling. -
Back at CHS the band did: Monday-Thursday: 4:30-6:30. Contest days they grab about an hour of rehearsal on top of that. The guard's schedule was different... they usually did: Mon: 6:30-8. Tues: 4:30-6:30 Wed: Off Thurs: 4:30-6:30 And there was also double blocking. We weren't required to double block, but it was basically understood that if you wanted to be placed into a higher ensemble, you were double blocked, no questions asked. At UNT: MWF: 4:15-6:15 Game days, we meet 4 hours before the game starts to practice for an hour, then a parade, then pre-game starts.

Centennial Marching Festival 2008
borchnork replied to Liquid Midget's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
you know what's really funny about that closer too is that when we learned that song for our DC Contest, the saxophone player I sat next to and I agreed that "Apollo Unleashed" would just about be the worlds greatest closer ever... -

Sadly, none... How the heck am I supposed to stay in the honors college if I've already taken all the honors courses and I'm just a freshman??????
-
is continuing this long pattern of talking about who's a loser and who isn't.

Yah, I was totally the same way, but every time I go back to Frisco, I get soo home sick! haha, it really sucks, cus I never thought Id want to go back there. Oh well. Guess they always say "home is where the heart is" and it's sooo true. What colleges are you looking at?

Adaptive Pitch Test
borchnork replied to Xenon's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Sorry for the double post, but you should also definitely check out the music and visual correlation test. THAT was tricky, and I missed like the first 4 cus I had no idea how to figure it out, but after a bit I got the hang of it. I ended up getting a 90% Overall. 88.4% on pitch discrimination, 91.0% on musical memory, 89.2% on contour discrimination, 89.2% on attention and 85.3% on Music/visual abstraction. -

42 Percentile. 3 Hz difference. Prolly has something to do with the fact that I was trying to listen to the tv at the same time. lol. -
Area B Marching Band Contest

So in two days we know all the competing bands. This contest already looks pretty stacked from just the fact that ALL region 24 is going to be there. -
UIL Region 24 '08
borchnork replied to AzNtRoMbOnEcHiCk's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I was there literally all day and I thought the contest was quite fantastic. Personally, I was shocked that Lake Dallas got a two. I loved their show. The masonic robes thing creeped me out beyond reason, and I LOVE creepy shows!!! Marcus' show was totally a Marcus show. Cute, funny, entertaining and just about Perfect. I wish there wasn't a stupid time limit difference between BOA and UIL cus I wanna see the full show!!!! I loved Frisco High's choice of music for the show this year. And Liberty's show was awesome. I honestly have to say I think they made the most perfect circles that I've ever seen in my entire life. And their little African tribal dance was great!! I thought their show was brilliant. Centennial also looked fantastic like always. Sad to see them take such a different and fun approach to their marching shows the year after I leave. =[ That's the kind of show I always wanted to march in. The guard at Centennial had a pretty much flawless performance (The guard director, Brian Greenleaf, actually said it was the best performance a CHS guard has ever done in the school's history). I thought Little Elm's show was brilliant. The Wizard of Oz was just totally too wicked awesome. Hebron's show was great. Kinda creepy with the moving eyes. Like, I was getting a little paranoid. hahaha, but I thought that everything they did in their show was very very addicting to watch. -
Nope. I used to back in high school, but I really didn't like it. It was just too hard for me to work with a computer program. Will we win our homecoming game???? I'm really looking forward to this week with the Bonfire (largest in the state of Texas!), Chalk the Walk and Yell Like He-l-l, so our first win would be an amazing way to top off the week.
