Solo & Ensemble

Yay for no S&E!!!!! But I have juries still. =[ My jury piece this semester is freaking awesome though! The Carmen Fantasy Suite. It's this like 12 page, 12 minute long solo that basically highlights the themes of Carmen and also does a theme and variation of "Habanera". I'm in love with it, but it's hard. -
Because sleep is over rated ON the topic of sleep... why did I spend over 4 hours on my homework last night, but then slept through the class the homework was for???

Every year we turn one of the dorms basements into a haunted house. It's awesome, because the dorm (Bruce Hall) is haunted by two ghosts already, so it gets even creepier around Halloween. I have yet to go to it, but I'm planning on it by the end of the week.

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
borchnork replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Something worth noting this year is how much cleaner Bell looks this year than they have in previous years. Sure they won Gnats last year, but there was a few sets in their drill that needed some more attention, similar to '06 with "The Remaining", which I think was what gave Marcus the edge to take state. From what I've seen of them this year though, the drill is nearly 100% flawless. I do generally prefer Marcus over Bell, but I think Bell is back to take the title. -

I think if there's a huge upset to the Bell v. Marcus thing, it will come from Cedar Park. I think we'll see Woodlands in the finals this time around. -

Gosh darn... now I kinda wanna go change my predictions about BOA SA. I'm expecting the Bell-Marcus thing to be an awesome contest, both at BOA and State. I can't wait to see it! -

Don't totally quote me on this, but I believe Bell marches and learns drill on an actual field... Idk if they use dots or not though. -

The Metronome...
borchnork replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
the only real problem with one of those metronomes is if there's a tempo change... it'd be kinda hard to translate to your head when you have a totally different tempo being sent through your body, wouldn't it? -

I could see Allen making it... It'd be a bit of a shocker, but they sure do have the potential. -
Jason Mraz was in Dallas last night and I knew like 20 different people in the band who went. haha. TTR: BONFIRE TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Area B Marching Band Contest
borchnork replied to queso2992's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
yah, that's true... sometimes things just happen to bands that place really well at Honor Band... Ex: Southwest last year. 3rd in 4A honor band, but didn't qualify for even Area. I must admit, I was disappointed, because they seemed like some very very strong competition (not saying that what we went up against last year wasn't, because obviously it was. Lol, Aledo and Sherman both placed at the TSMC).
