I'm pretty sure that University of Michigan doesn't march flutes, only piccs. That's what I was told at least when I auditioned there. We march 5 piccolos at UNT, and you can't even hear them...

although, a band with more members can have more shadows. I know one thing that always hurt us was kids who failed and not having enough shadows to replace them. A larger band wouldn't have those problems...

Bell's show is called "The Quest" and includes music from Prague. INSANE! And then we have Marcus' show "The Gods". This could be very interesting....

Oh wow, that's weird. I remember the Fused show because that was the same year we did "A Symphonic Metamorphosis" and OUR opener was Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. When we heard you play it at the football game we were shocked!

well, yah, I do get the point about the on-field judges thing. But then again, the judges don't necessarily have a score do they? And even if they did, I'm sure a director would arrange the pieces to where it was accepted that it was a "chamber music" section.

East is good, but I think that the show that Poteet is putting out on the field this year is very very hard to top.

I think it'd actually be easier to get a larger band to play soft.... just point to half the band during a soft section and say "Don't Play." That does sound a tad arrogant, but I think that option would be easier to make dynamic contrasts in a larger ensemble than trying to get a smaller group to play louder.
