I've heard several performances of this piece, but NEVER anything like this... It was stunning. Like, the concert was YESTERDAY, and I'm STILL in shock over it. -
2008 TOC

It's so weird to not go to contests this year... Centennial's numbers dropped quite a large deal. They went from 21 flutes to about 12. Some sections grew. I haven't seen them march, so I assumed they're about the same level as last year. I do agree the Timberview should be destroying in contest too. They are top 5 in my view... although I think I didn't put them there in my predictions, I meant to do so. lol. -

I don't member what they played, BUT thankfully I took a program. =] They did a world premiere of a piece for Organ and Winds called "Fanfare Europa" I actually sat next to the composers parents. it was cool. The rest of the program was: "Scenes from 'The Louvre'" ~Norman Dello Joio "Strange Humors" ~John Mackey "Song for Lyndsay" ~Andrew Boysen Jr. "Raise the Roof" ~Michael Daugherty "AirLink" ~Jack Stamp -

Actually, oddly enough, Symphonic band didn't play a single piece older than 40 years old. All but 1 of their pieces was written within the past 10 years, 2 of them were written this year/summer. And the 1 o' clock has yet to put on a performance from my understanding, but I walk by the practice hall everyday when the start rehearsal and it's intimidating. haha. I've heard them before... and My jaw dropped. But the 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock have already put on at least 2 performances each. -
Hurricane Ike
borchnork replied to sakuradanc's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Chris, or dtxtrmpt, didn't evacuate during Ike. He had me pretty scared, because Dickinson is right next to Galveston Bay. From what he tells me, the marching season there may be over for them... He's said it'll be about a month before they reopen school and a lot of the bands kid ended up losing their homes, so he's not entirely sure how things will turn out. But I'm glad that he's okay. =] -
is "Hmmm"ing.

Sooo, that link would have been way better... IF THE STUPID WB COMPANY HADN'T MOVED THE DATE BACK A WHOLE YEAR SO THAT THEY COULD HAVE ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING PROFIT SUMMER!!!! IT WAS TWO MONTHS TO THE DAY YESTERDAY THAT THE MOVIE WAS SUPPOSED TO COME OUT, BUT NOW I HAFTA WAIT A WHOLE YEAR FOR IT! AND THAT PUSHES BACK BOTH OF THE 7TH HARRY POTTER MOVIES ANOTHER YEAR!!!!! hahaha, sorry. I'm really upset about this. I've already sent a good 20-30 scathing and hateful "howlers" to WB. =]

LOL! I love yah too!!! You were too far away though! And I just saw the Alamodome and "Dome sweet Dome" and was like... "WOW! ANOTHER TXBANDS KID!" hahaha... The exhaustion of college makes me think the most random things... Anyways, I member when Megan and I had french pressed coffee in my dorms lobby and took pictures outside... that was a whole like 8 hours ago. lol. Btw, I want some of those pics!!! =] -
We've started our 2nd show, "Get it On" and we'll be marching it at the UNT vs. Rice game next week on the 27th. As far as the state show goes, we have now two pieces of our show "Hide and Seek" from Imogen Heap and this AWESOME song Mr. Williams has written called "Krumpness!" haha, it's dark, twisted and totally awesome!

Actually, when you audition as a wind player there's up to... 6 ensembles that you can be placed in to... Wind Symphony, Symphonic band, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band 1 and 2, and after marching season is over, we can have up to Concert band 1, 2, 3 and 4. I saw the first concert of the year tonight, the Symphonic Band... I think that was the most perfect thing I've ever heard in my entire life. No lie, I was shocked. Like... If they were THAT good... I'm kinda scared as to how beyond perfect, almost godlike, the wind symphony is going to be next week. -

well, we've gotten placement result back from auditions. As far as wind ensembles go, only 5 freshman made higher than concert band, and they all placed in the lower half of symphonic band. And we only had 3 freshman make a jazz band. 1 made the two o clock! INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!! and the other two made 9 o clock. -
is not the person I talk to the most on here... sorry.

got a new shiny keyboard... and has a tendency to get off topic too.

okay, so I misunderstood, apparently we have 4 different shows this year. One is Bohemian Rhapsody. 2nd is called Move it On. 3rd is a medley of Journey music. And our State show, Groove!, has a tango for an opener, "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap for our ballad, and a Krump style dance for our closer, and mixed in with all of these we will have a running techno theme.
