UIL State 1A, 2A & 4A - Nov. 5-6, 2007

thankfully in the end everything works out; most of the time, but like after Little Elm finals you should see the look in some of their eyes when it was announced we got 6th, I was one of the few who cheered. We didn't see the accompishment of making our first finals at an extremely high level competition, including beating Wills Point who creamed us last year, Centennial in prelims and look at where they are right not going to state, beating many big bands like Robert Lee, and Bowie, and was only 1.2 points out of 2nd place over Canton the 3A champs at everything. But, no we sulked at the fact we fell, and look at Centennial(no offense indicated) they dropped in a lot of competitions but they kept their head up and is going to state. I hope falling from prelims to finals won't harbor such feelings, but instead the driving force to be better next time -

I don't see that as a problem for us b/c we have a total of 19 juniors and seniors including myself and they realize they still have the goal of making state, so I'm sure they will work their **** off. BTW we have 110 people overall -

I hate band drama for the simple reason it splits our band. That I believe is the biggest problem we have. Everyone works incredibly hard, but when people started saying all this junk about not liking each other it makes me sick. Luckily, I'm one of the few people everyone likes. In doing so, I know a lot about almost everyone and it's difficult to try to agree w/ everyone. And another problem is WE POINT FINGERS!!!!! It disgusts me b/c everyone blames someone else, and no one takes responsibilty anymore. I try to keep conflict low by just fixing it even if it's a fresh. that says I was wrong. Our juniors and seniors are the best people in the band and don't cause any trouble, but the soph. are getting a little too bigheaded. If a fish tries to correct them they ignore it, and it is so frustrating when people don't listen to each other. Well that was my rambling, just wondering does any of you guys have that problem? -

As for honor band right now we are working on the First Suite in Eb, I really like it, this might be for our winter concert. Right now our band has the nothing to lose attitude and I think it has really helped us -

We go at 150 for the waltz (La donna mobile) it feels so slow b/c it really is at 210 but there was no way we could get up that high so we settled at 150, in fact we are trying to push the tempo throughout the whole show by 4-8 counts this past week, and I got to admit it's a lot more fun -

When we went to Whitesboro during our pre-show rehersal in the 2nd quarter doing our across the floors I got my ankle caught in a ditch and I was trying my best to suck it up for the performace, and I got to admit it was one of my better football game performances ever, but it really hurt afterwards. I was like limping my way off the field. In fact later I had to go to the doctors next morning because it hurt so much that night, so I went took some pain-killers iced it etc, and did great at UIL. This was all last week by the way -

I think people don't realize that Dripping Springs that made it in Area D or E I think will also be there. I have no idea why they are making such a long trip or maybe they realized they would make state and wanted to compete w/other state bands like TC Sherman, Aledo, and Centennial. It's going to be fun. As for us this is like our state championship being a 3A school competiting against some of the best 4A and 5A schools of this area is huge for us. So we plan on leaving it all out there -
Thank you for that, on Saturday we plan on showing my friends at Frisco by making finals. Especially for the seniors we would love them to end their band careers with a higher placement then the band junior(myself included) and seniors with a great performance. As for your response we totally understand that for you guys to be scared of us is something that has to be a really strong band, and I think this group of freshman and soph. when they turn juniors and seniors and become the leaders of this band they will work their tales off for state. In fact most of our leadership already is soph. and some will be 4 year leadership funnily enough. The thing is we haven't played our best yet w/o a doubt. It seems after every performance their seems to be some major thing that happens that while people might not recongize for us it's like a nightmare. It all starts w/ tommorows rehersal

Quick recap from region 24. As a 4A all you need to know is everyone got a 1, The Colony, Frisco, Little Elm, Lake Dallas, and Centennial all got 1's which definately helps Area B a little. The Colony looked very impressive, after today I think they will make state for sure, Frisco a little shaky I don't understand the show very much and the music is kind of weak but still got a 1, Little Elm looked pretty good not much competition but they did do their job to get a 1, Lake Dallas is much improved from years past everything they did was very nice definately deserved it, Centennial the show was very strong BUT still incomplete b/c it only took 6 minutes and I didn't see the 180 tempo they were talking about, really need to get it together this week but well done. So there you go Region 24 takes care of their business now we wait for the other bands. As for my school the judges loved us (wakeland 3A) we could have added some dynamic contrast but other than that it was great
