DEDICATION
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue replied to BluedevilinWHS's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
this year's seniors were good, we juniors are great, sophmores are really bad (marching and dedication-wise), freshmen have no clue but follow the upperclassmen lead so they'll turn out pretty good. at practice, people run back to their spots and stuff. nobody sits down during a water break (not allowed to anyway ) -

anyone know of any upcoming concerts? i have to attend and critique 3 by the last day of school. i'd like to get started. maybe this thread could help other people too. from my searching, there's nothing from UH, SanJac or Rice for the rest of this year. There will be a Pasadena Philharmonic Concert at SanJac Central on Jan 28 at 2:30PM

So, how'd everyone do at region auditions?
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue replied to M1KH4J157's topic in General Off-Topic
freshman year (no lessons) - 45 overall last year (3 lessons) - 15 or 16 overall last week - 2 overall violin, clarinet, trumpet, and flutes have crazy competition, maybe not so much at region depending on region and the year, but i've heard that area is absolutely crazy. i'll be actually practicing this holiday - not like thanksgiving week when i said the same thing and never touched the instrument... -

10 haha that great. do you have an alternate sig? ctrl + w -
how many people do they take from region to move on to area? what percentage do they take - since smaller regions send less people i've tried searching around, but maybe someone here knows... i thought it was 1/3 of the people who made region (not district), but this year, i heard that region 19 was only taking 4 clarinets out of 30 to make it in. idk, i guess i'm just nervous for tomorrow's placements (trying to maintain 3rd or move up if possible, i think i might prefer making 15 on the first night by a fluke and go into the 2nd round under the radar)

for school band or region?? for school we don't have chairs. for the past two years i've been in top band and have played 1st, 2nd, and 3rd part on 3 different songs both years. right now, it seems like that's the case for this year too, idk. during our concerts, you see me switching chairs between songs.

our alternates stand in a line next to the pit, at ease. everyone marches on the field until the 4th game, then it's contest mode and spots are set it's nice to work in alternates, but some bands try that and have them doing box drill or marching in some alternate line backfield, it's kinda weird when not well integrated.
