actually, this year, we had a sophmore DM, but none of the upperclassmen listened to her. she got off almost everytime on the major transitions, so i had to look for Johnny - head DM - outta the corner of my eye. i was talking to the band director on the bus ride home last year and he said because then, the freshmen will be able to relate to someone - since they are terrified of upperclassmen ...?? i guess it is an investment for the future? she tried to correct me once, but she was looking down the wrong diagonals..... i moved to get her to stop bugging me so when she left, i got back into my diagonal. next year, i might try out for DM or stay and march. not quite sure

before next year, i have three choices: 1) quit marching band completely - pursue other interests (science research - it's up there with music in my life) since marching takes much time. but it (marching band) is awesome - those long afternoon practices, moving 5 circles during class, and marching for those audiences are an unrivaled experiences of HS (not a real choice) 2) stay in band and be a leader (woodwind section or whatever) and march 3) try out for DM - i have no experience at all, but it would be a cool thing to do. EDIT: "cool" doesnt contain a tone of nonchalance any ideas?

Do you believe in magic? In a young girls heart How the music can free her whenever it starts And it's magic if the music is groovy It makes you feel happy like an old time movie I'll tell ya about the magic It'll free your soul but it's like trying to tell a stranger 'bout rock n roll If you believe in magic, don't bother to choose If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues Just go and listen It'll start with a smile It won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you try Your feet start tapping And you can't seem to find How you got there So just blow your mind If you believe in magic Come along with me We'll dance until morning, just you and me and maybe, if the music is right I'll meet ya tomorrow so late at night We'll go a dancin' baby then you'll see all the magic's in the music and the music's in me, yeah Do you belive in magic? Yeah. Believe in the magic in a young girl's soul believe in the magic of rock n roll Believe in the magic that can set you free Ohhhh, talkin' bout magic Do you believe like I believe? Do you believe in magic? ---- who is your band director?

UIL 5A Results

i agree with the size issue - big bands have sooo many people that they can hide some bad marching / have enough members to cut 200 people and still have 200 marching ex. langham creek, marches its top two bands only - correct me if im wrong. and berkner has like 7 directors / bands smaller bands are more exposed and any problems are clearly seen. also, terrace dynamics - the more people playing at mf, the louder its gonna be and the more musical you can play - making the louds louder makes the softs easier and softer -

really? what exactly is IB? i think i've heard of it but can someone confirm? i like AP tests way more than regular tests - you dont have to answer but 30% to pass and i usually know enough of what i'm doing to get a whopping 65%...hehe -

haha that was what the director was going for actually. we also take lots of visuals and a little maching style from the cavs. 8, the westfield has a pretty cool show -

ha, calculator UIL is awesome!! last year, i competed as a sophmore, but lucky me, the north shore team was in our district competition - they were state champs the previous year or something like that. of course, they finished top 4 by huge margins. i got 6th when they input info, it sounded like they were typing 1,000,000,000,000,000 digits per second on a keyboard - using hb calculators. naturally, everyone else stared at them for a little while, in awe of their amazing calculating prowess
