our percussion does a lap after practice everyday, it's their ritual. section leaders can assign laps and stuff, but we're pretty cool about it. it takes some hugh screw-up to deserve laps. last year, we gave out laps if you couldnt play your music memorized by a set date. it was done by the WW section leader though, not the director

nah, we don't like the HARDER sightreading. we just want REAL sightreading. let us play REAL songs that actually make sense and don't suck. right now, the sightreading pieces are written strictly for contest sight-reading. they are trying to make us mess up. thus the songs we play are complete crap. all they have to do is compose real pieces for sightreading (since the purpose of original songs is to prevent people playing the songs before)

really????? i and bunch of the band thought it was really easy. we actually liked it (more than the ones from the past two or three years anyway). at least it had some potentially cool parts. mind you, being the best song of a bunch of crap songs, Reflections is still a crappy song. (directed toward everyone)

this year was really dumb. the seniors were in charge of course. they had the freshmen blindfolded, standing at attention. then the seniors walked around pushing them and flicking them - and all that stupid stuff. then, they covered them with silly string. IMO, we should have had a small platform and made them take the leap of faith

nobody mentioned the SFA director moving to start a new program in Pearland yet. -
TTR: beating all those kids who want to major in foreign affairs in their own essay contest (#1 in TX and $1k with chance at much more) ALSO: all expenses paid for a 5day trip to DC.

I've kinda decided not to do DM. that'd be a bit too much for me. I'm going for NHS president, HOSA officer and a ton of stuff above that. some high leader position on the field is fine.

Stand Tunes

we had a discussion about playing music with heart since it probably is the only and last time we will play it in our lives, since most everyone arent gonna major in music. then the director brought up how he hated practicing it, but he regrets never being able to play ever again as a 1st trumpet within a full ensemble... -
not bad. 1980, no studying nada. good enough for Rice... =D took the stupid IOWA test the day before - all 5 painfully slow hours... im gonna retake in june, after looking at writing stuff (it really killed me) also taking II Physics in May

i'm thinking about entering the race. but i want to march for senior year you know? not sure if DMing is for me anyway.
-
if there are such balance issues, then why the heck hasn't the director addressed them?
-
that'd be amazingly funny. i'm not sure i know anyone willing to go through with it though.
