My school alternates between a band banquet and going to an overnight trip to San Antonio (we go to the DC Festival there and go to Fiesta Texas later) every year, so I'd rather go to Fiesta with band kids than a band banquet

Is Having A Girlfriend/Boyfriend Overrated?
ClaireAnnette07 replied to Aegis Fang's topic in General Off-Topic
I think high school relationships IN GENERAL are overrated..I mean, I know people (ahem, girls) who write "I Love (insert name here)!!" like, two days after they start dating...it's like, a little lame. But then again, I haven't started dating yet, so I guess I just don't understand -
Yeah, we don't have to try out to be section leader...we're just placed! That's a good thing, because marching is my weak spot. I'm still not totally sure if i should tryout for DM again...it was really hard not getting it last year (but once i got clarinet section leader all was well again..well, almost!) and I'm not sure if it's worth the whole week process (including conducting in class, essay, marching routine, interview, musical exerpt and basic tryout--commands and basic marching concepts) to not make it again. But it IS my last chance, so I'm contemplating it. Anyway, enough about me----good luck to everyone trying out for section/rank leader and/or DM!!

Wow...we just eat a buffet (this year, anyway) and dance...I think the band boosters are planning a slide show. I have no date and since I will be coming home from StuCo State Convention in Arlington the same day, I'm not even 100% sure I'm going. I'd like to though because I like band banquets. it totally beats sitting around the house all night

Texas Bands

Surprisingly, I can't either....not only will it be my senior year but it's also my school's first year in being a 5A. Yep, it should be very interesting. I hope we can surprise some people next year with the flare we hope to (finally!) create -
Did they win their first game?

I agree with the R-13...I got mine at the end of 7th grade and it's still pretty good. Of course, it'd be better if I didn't use it for marching season too (I'll wait while you other clarinet players gasp in horror) but considering how much it's been through, it's awesome! I also reccommend using cork padding--it lasts longer from what I hear. I only got it because it prevents wear and tear from marching season. As for Benny Goodman, I think we're playing his collection of songs for the spring concert...at least, if my band director has enough faith in me to pull off all the solos because jazz stuff has always been my weak spot As for the rue lepics, I <33333 them!! I ran out and haven't ordered anymore and since Vandoren is like, short on reeds or something, I can't even get the silver box...I've been getting Mitchell Lurie's or something.Grr PS---does anyone know where I could get a Benny Goodman CD?

Wow...we've always marched bass clarinets..and even an alto (Go Lissa!)

What I'm about to say totally doesn't involve me, but I feel it must be mentioned.... The #1 rule of Band: WHAT HAPPENS ON THE BAND BUS, STAYS ON THE BAND BUS! As for band pervertedness (sp?), I've only had one personal incident: a non-band kid laughing at the fact that I carried a clarinet fingering chart, labeled "Fingering chart"...uh-huh, you get the point

5A UIL
ClaireAnnette07 replied to Amusicman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I <333 Molly on the Shore..I've only heard it but I love the clarinet solo. Of course, I AM a little biased where that comes in -
A pretty close estimate...I actually counted this time 14 flutes 15 clarinets (wh0o!!) 1 bassoon (cymbals in marching season) 4 bass clarinets 1 contra-bass clarinet (alto in marching season) 3 oboes (cymbals and pit in marching season) 3 tenor saxes 2 bari saxes 6 alto saxes

Well, I can't complain...I mean, we got time off school when Rita came. Not that it was for anything wonderful, but I kind of had fun before I evacuated if that counts, lol

We didn't get President's Day off, but we get off next Monday for 'staff development'. I wish i could have been a senior today, but since I'm a junior, I had to slave away on my LAST ENGLISH TAKS EVER!

Life other then being a Band Queer
ClaireAnnette07 replied to whitewing09's topic in General Off-Topic
Well, I'm in Student Council (Vice Prez), but most of our officers are in band, too. I'm also in National Honor Society, which has a TON of band kids in there..like 90% of the NHS members are in band. But our band is pretty diverse where activities are concerned- we have a varsity football player, 2 cheerleaders (last year we had 2 cheerleaders AND 2 mascots in band), volleyball girls, dance team member, and of course, the UIL Academic kids and BPA members.
