  1. It’s happened before and on only one of those occasions was Vista Ridge able to stay ahead at state.
  2. Always frustrating when admin isn’t supportive of the fine arts.
  3. UIL State advancement is strictly based off how many bands qualify from region with 1’s. Even if a band is DQed before area or selects not to go they are still counted towards the numbers for state advancement!
  4. ….sometimes it’ll be freezing with cloud cover and they will still have umbrellas. Truly puzzling. Not on topic but there’ll never be enough time for me to complain about random umbrella users.
  5. I would never use chatGPT for anything. Most of all though because of the niche nature of marching band rules and regulation it probably struggles to scrape the internet for accurate interpretations of them. The best solution here is if you have a question we are blessed to have an active forum of users who will answer you with love, patience and understanding.
  6. Ok but what do you want the alternative to be lol? Area makeup dates have always been weekdays for many many years. I feel for the parents and boosters who can’t take off but also…what’s the alternative? Bands have KNOWN the makeup dates for years now since they’re usually the Monday after barring a few exceptions in a few areas. Bands have KNOWN this was a possibility. This isn’t some last minute decision. Through all of the 2010s this has been a contingency and widely used as the worst imaginable case scenario. Is it a good system? No! But what ELSE is left? Genuinely nothing…..at least be thankful UIL is trying to hold a fair contest instead of resorting to a system that doesn’t incorporate student performance. If BDs are complaining about it being indoor and it’s too rainy for students to safely compete on Saturday….then what’s left? They can’t move it to next Saturday because bands across the state already have paid for, budgeted and have planned competitions for that date already. You can’t ask every band in the state with a postponement to just forgo a planned competition because of UIL. Sorry I’m just a little lost on what we’re complaining about here and I’m trying to figure out in earnest and honestly what you think the better solution is here.
  7. Wow! I had no idea. That’s pretty elaborately terrible. Thanks for keeping watch for us and keeping an eye out. It’s appreciated to help keep this forum accessible and clean.
  8. I’m just surprised in the year of 2025 there are still people running bots to spam forums like in the early 2010s message boards. Some things never change…
  9. Those same 3-4 bands work just as hard to continually make state. It’s really weird to see you discounting their hard work because they’re consistently at state level?
  10. How is Keller looking this year? I feel like I’ve barely heard anything?
  11. So stoked for that third band that gets to make the trip.
  12. So stoked for that third band that gets to make the trip.
  13. M&GJ in San Antonio finals? What do we think.
  14. South Grand Prairie over Keller Central feels pretty notable for what it’s worth.
  15. I kinda think Dawson could upset here. I think Pearland overtakes them at state eventually though. Dawson just has a show that feels a little friendlier to the area sheets than Pearland, and they’re just a wee bit further in progression.
  16. For what it’s worth I really like both venues.
  17. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about Round Rocks chances. I think right now the five I see advancing pretty safely are in no order Reagan, M&GJ, Cedar Ridge. Everyone else I could see a case for being in or out. I do think CTJ is a safe call. They’re not the band they used to be but this new version of CTJ is really nailing it at UIL over BOA so I feel comfortable having them in. That fifth spot is going to be brutal. I don’t even want to try and predict who’s gonna be in. Right now my moneys on James Bowie but I really have no idea and I could be very wrong.
  18. This area is brutal. I would argue it’s the toughest one in the state. Year after year it only gets harder. Dripping Springs moving up, M&GJ opening and the rise of programs like Hutto, Westwood and McNeil. Not to mention the mainstays are ridiculously talented too. All the RRISD bands and the NEISD bands don’t make this easy.
  19. It’s funny to think about but the catalyst to this was Hebron losing the national title in 2015 to Broken Arrow which made BOA make the switch, which eventually trickled down across most marching bands circuits. I won’t share my opinion on this because honestly I’m still forming my opinion since there’s huge downsides to both systems. However….I will say I think Broken Arrow would’ve beat Hebron in any performance order that night. Hebrons semifinal performance was lights out and finals returned back to their regular albeit stellar quality, which wasn’t enough to beat a lights out performance from Broken Arrow. I guess that’s to say there’s not really a right or wrong answer here from my opinion. I’d probably welcome if at least the champion of the preliminary round is rewarded with at minimum not having to go on first.
  20. M&GJ killed it tonight. Locked for top half. Let’s see if they can take that medal.
  21. Tell me you don’t understand the caption without telling me you don’t understand the caption. If you’re uneducated you can just say that.
  22. If you were on the forums you would have seen the immense hype John Horn had in 2018. People really did believe they had a shot at 6A finals.
  23. Bands can also have visual “tears” but I’ve always seen the term used more with music. Usually one follows the other, if your music and tempo is off then your marching will also be off.
