  1. Sometimes I'm glad I'm not in the positions these directors are in. What do you even do when your whole band's transportation cancels a few hours ahead of time, likely at a crazy early time before anyone else is even awake.
  2. I think people have started assuming the site is gonna go down and don't check it lmao
  3. I think AI judging would be crossing a line for me, feels Anti-art lmao
  4. Feel like some of the spacing is unfortunate, I accidentally read it as "one was injured in the incident" but that might be my fault lol Honestly so glad to see bands come together to help like this.
  5. Their post was prior to BOA Waco taking place, no need to get defensive.
  6. Obviously size isn't everything in a program, but it's crazy to see just how low these two programs are enrolment wise, compared to how successful they've been this season (and prior seasons)
  7. The pollution in the air at this contest always provides a real challenge for the students, excited to see how they overcome!
  8. It feels like the students are being done a huge disservice with their show design as of late. Just confusing stuff happening as of late. I thought their show had some real potential at the beginning of the season, but with the full thing on field now, I'm a lot less positive on it.
  9. No Moe & Gene, Dripping Springs, or Cedar Ridge? Feel like they're pretty likely finalists this year.
  10. Yep, and it looks like the ordering was 1. Cedar Ridge 2. Dripping Springs 3. Ronald Reagan 4. MGJ 5. CTJ
  11. Couple of slips here and there from the field being wet, but other than that, Cedar Ridge had a KILLER run to open this contest.
  12. I'd honestly put Dripping Springs in that group of safely in. It feels like I've only seen them maintain their high performance level throughout this season. (but also area judging can be weird so who knows for sure lmao)
  13. There are a lot of stupidly talented bands that won't be in finals. Every kid in every band in prelims should be proud of themselves.
  14. 6A Region 26 Results Round Rock JV - 2 Hutto - 1 Manor - 2 Stony Point - 1 McNeil - 1 Westwood - 1 Cedar Ridge - 1 Round Rock - 1
  15. Region 26 Results Round Rock JV - 2 Hutto - 1 Manor - 2 Stony Point - 1 McNeil - 1 Westwood - 1 Cedar Ridge - 1 Round Rock - 1
  16. I guess I should amend that I actually thought Mad, Mod, and Go actually had some really solid music, and I thought it had a better arrangement of "Tank!" than Blue Devils did that same season, so maybe I'm just letting some recency bias tinge my view. I think these past two years the music (outside of the killer soloists) was lacking some, I don't know exactly how to say it, maybe *zest* on it stylistically? It's hard to quantify, and I admit that my tune could potentially change on a rewatch. I still do love Woodlands design though. One of the few TX programs that I can always count on to put on a novel show.
  17. I should note that there's musical choices they make that I really like, I just think I'm wanting the music to match the crazy visual excitement they bring to the field. And as always, they execute at a crazy high level, so they elevate everything they do just by virtue of that.
  18. Might just be a me thing, because I know Woodlands show design in particular is generally liked here, but I've always found that with their design, and now MGJs, there's a disconnect between the visual and musical components. The themes are always richly depicted visually, through uniforms and prop work, but the music writing just feels a bit watered down compared to the cultures, concepts and themes that are supposed to be conveyed.
  19. This stadium is such an interesting listening environment. Feels weirdly isolated.
  20. Noticed there wasn't a thread for discussion yet, and thought I'd make one! Scheduled to be hosted October 25th, at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. Judges: Steve Wessels, Rich Armstrong, Tyler Sammons, Kendall LeJeune, Mark Veenstra
  21. I said something similar to this after their prelims run, but I think this show is one they're going to grow into over the season. It's probably my favorite show I've seen so far this season design-wise, and leans into all of my favorite things Cedar Ridge been doing recently, stark visuals, killer percussion moments, atmospheric music and a heavy focus on the guard. I just think it holds a bit more challenge musically than some of their other shows have this early on. Once there's some more ironing out I think it'll really start to shine. I'd also like to say I thought Round Rock's show was pretty compelling on second watch! Some of the quieter musical moments hold a little bit of apprehension at the moment, but if they lock it down, it'll be special. I think both them and Dripping Springs have a huge amount of room to add awesome visual components to align with their themes and also have the room in the design to grow to be rad shows. It felt to me like they were the three shows at this event that were oozing potential, and I really hope it gets realized!
  22. Any negative feelings I had about those screens have been multiplied after seeing them at night
