  1. WEDAR WIDGE 😈🌕 super proud of my old program for having so much momentum this season. What a prelims run!
  2. Genuine PSA from the bottom of my heart. If you find yourself in San Antonio, after the contest has ended, late at night and you're looking for something to eat with your family? Do NOT go to the Denny's near the Alamodome. It is a nightmare on earth. I went there last year and my girlfriend and I didn't get our food for two hours, and apparently every bus driver in the area had decided to show up and have the loudest possible conversation, about the most vile stuff possible. They also somehow managed to get three rounds of food before anyone else in our area got anything lmao I don't think I've seen true defeat in a face until we hit the second hour of waiting for food, and the family behind us (which I believe was from the Woodlands, they were very patient and understanding) literally started to fall asleep. That doesn't even begin to talk about the homeless people that would wander into the store and have to be escorted out regularly. So please, if you're hungry late after BOA, just eat somewhere else. Yard House maybe? It's more pricey but it's better than that darn Denny's, that's for sure. Heck, even a McDonald's would beat that Denny's.
  3. Maybe it's just me but I definitely think Cedar Ridge's brass deserves higher than a 7th place ranking. I also won't get into the percussion rankings. Either way, super stoked to see DS make it to state! It's awesome to see, but also sad for the bands that just missed it.
  4. Although neither of them quite capture the song the way I'd like, I like Round Rock's composition of Adagio for Tron better than Vandys! The emphasis on low brass really mimics the synth of the original, really cool stuff. (although I do hope bands realize Daft Punk has a lot of great songs that aren't on the Tron soundtrack) Either way, great run from Round Rock! Happy to see them coming back as of late, the more RRISD bands doing well, the merrier!
  5. Lotta people forgetting to put their umbrellas down when the band is performing, currently watching through a sea of them.
  6. Wow, really love the visual effect Cy-Fair is doing here!
  7. This is interesting, I don't remember them starting that late? Feel like some bands at Austin had more significant delays and didn't have anything like this come up.
  8. Am I crazy or is Reagan not on the finalists schedule? There's only 11 bands listed. https://twitter.com/BANDSOFAMERICA/status/1576345009858744322?t=xKdnKFNXJQn5SHkO5z5dMg&s=19
  9. I'm still sad they ended up canceling their plans for this year.
  10. It isn't done yet, but I don't think I'm vibing with this year's CTJ show. Feels like it's missing some of the personality I've come to expect from their music writing. They're still some of the highest level performers around though! And they're absolutely booking it for a lot of the show, so I have to give plenty of credit for that!
  11. Not sure how I'm feeling about Round Rock swapping out their iconic uniforms for what I'm seeing on the sideline right now.
  12. Accidentally got given two strawberry lemonades at the Kettle Corn stand when I only wanted one, so if anyone is at the contest and wants a free strawberry lemonade let me know lmao
  13. I believe they actually got shifted down to later in the day! The BOA site has them listed for 1:15.
  14. Big day ahead! Very excited to see all of these students perform in person today, I hope every single one of them had a performance they're proud of, and the audience rewards them for it. It's a truly fulfilling experience getting to perform in front of a crowd that's there to appreciate the art. If you're a parent there to watch your kid today, I implore you to stick around and watch some more programs! You'll get to see some awesome performances, and be another set of hands that claps for a student whose parents couldn't make it out.
  15. Adjudication Panel Music - Chip Crotts, Glenn Fugett, Nola Jones, Greg Williams Visual - Austin Greene, Greg Llacer, Deborah Torchia Chief Judge - Richard Saucedo
  16. I feel like we must have seen different performances, they're definitely a strong medalist contender at this contest. They're creating a really full field scene visually, and are putting out clean sound like no one's business, pretty early in the season. It's definitely not a 100% certain medal, but they're closer than they've ever been this year.
  17. I've seen some of the competition, along with Cedar Ridge and I agree with their sentiment. It's not gonna be easy, but it's a definite chance.
