BOA Waco 2019
LostChoirGuy replied to gmtb617's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I posted earlier the only placements we can determine definitively (or at least the range of placements) without insider info right now. Edit: of course- I was assuming the classes of the finalist bands that werent class medalists, so I could be wrong. I believe that 7L and JJP are AAAA and Richland and BC are AAA. -

I definitely get why Bowie did well. The kids do give it everything and they sound and look great. Watching them back to back, Keller's show is so much more exposed so it is really easy to see and hear all the flaws, but also easy to be blown away at the talent. -

As a math teacher, this Dripping Springs show is making me way too excited. They've got thr Fibonacci sequence, The Golden ratio, Infinity, e, and more in their show! -

Very impressive show, Aledo! I hadnt seen them yet this year. That will be really successful at UIL. I could see them slipping in top 5 at state. -

Amazing Grace/ Fix You is an interesting mash up of songs. I don't hate it but I don't love it either... Edit: to clarify this is in Burleson Centennial's show -

How many bands here are former regional champions? Bowie is, right? Richland, maybe? I was hoping to see another new champion to add to the 2 we already have had in texas this year, but I wouldnt want it taken away from Bowie when they deserve it! -

Since we have 5 of each AAA and AAAA finalists, it will be pretty easy to determine about where people ranked once the finals order comes out. -

JJ Pearce and Burleson Centennial are the surprise finalosts in my opinion. I suspected that JJ Pearce might be one to qatch a few weeks ago when I brought them up. -

Keller seemed to struggle in the last movement. Maybe that affected their score? -

Wow, I couldnt even pay attention to Seven Lakes performing because their props were so stunning! Whoever is in charge of their prop design should be proud. That is two years in a row of a fantastic job. -

Oh wow! I saw the awards on the hornrank forums first and someone put jenks in that 2nd place spot instead of Haltom, so I didnt even notice that. That is amazing. And Carroll! This is so amazing! -

It really felt like attending a concert band concert in a football stadium. They sounded so nice and pretty! Haha and great soloists! I would love to see them attend some more BOA events. -

I dont love Keller's show this year from a design standpoint but they just slay it. I am blown away by their improvement every year. The closer looks super difficult and still needs lots of cleaning so that is surely what they will be working on before San Antonio. -

I am amazed at the overall improvement of so many Texas bands. I think because the competition has gone up, so many bands are really stepping it up. -

I totally forgot about pflugerville when making my predictions. That said, they seem to be having a down year compared to last year. They should certainly be in the conversation for finals. Who are they competing against at area? Weiss for sure. -
Texan Bands Out Of Texas

Mabank is a huge surprise to me! I have never heard anything about their band program before. When I was in high school I competed against their show choir, though and they were fantastic. Really, really small but a crowd favorite.
