They sound amazing!. I wish I could have seen the entire band.

Please, please TxBand members. When shooting vids or photos of your favorite band with a phone: portrait is for social media sites. Landscape is for true video. Most new phones come with a wide angle setting as well. Set it, rotate and get the whole picture.

    Sorry...I digress...

    Thanks for posting Momma

Awesome. Nice work. Did you produce those in school or on your own?

Personally, I would like to see them no matter how old they are. I dabble in photography and video production & editing. Let me know if they're still available for posting or sharing. Always like being inspired by other's work.

Should keep in mind that Austin is one of the earliest if not the first competitions of the season and I'd estimate 95% of the bands barely put 1/2 their show on the field. The shows that consistently place in finals are rewarded for their consistant preparation that early in the season.
It's a waist of time to compare contests of varying times throughout the season. SASR is the final test for all but those who can afford the trip to GNs.

    This one should be fun.

FYI - Pflugerville ISD Announces James Hairston (former Dripping Springs assistant band director) - Hendrickson HS Head Band Director

Maybe HHS will resurrect their jazz band now.

I don't believe the poster is hating on VR, at least I hope not. Especially if they are associated with Henny.

I think the poster is expressing their preference for original, new designs and music to go with it. VR blew the doors off with musicality and marching in 2018 and the poster conveys that. VR earned the accolades and well deserved.

As for Avon and Henny's "Brick" shows...2 totally different and original concepts.

Yes, with Gunderson & Duffy on staff at Henny they have had original and fresh designs and music to accommodate the shows. Unraveled, Lost, 3D, Just Another Brick. I would include Blueprints For Life, but from what I undertstand, it wasn't the 2018 show that was to be performed. I was told the original 2018 show was substituted with Blueprints when Gunderson and Duffy left the program.

Gunderson is now at Bowie. Duffy at D' Springs, is contracted to work with Henny through '19 I believe, but in what capacity? How original and new Henny's shows will be in the future will be determined by the vision of the new staff. They're young and hungry, BTW. I personally hope they keep with the Hawk trend and don't use recycled content. It's what makes them unique.

Those that are staying have the experience and taste of success. This will surely filter down to the incoming. Success breeds success. It's like a virus. It'll rub off on everyone.

I fortunately landed the "official" band videographer. The directors arranged for ISD, BOA and US Bands credentials. I mostly road with the band so gained access to behind the scenes stills and video that I wouldn't otherwise have had. Coming in with the band wearing credentials, I had no problems. This allowed me to enter events with a photography backpack carrying 2 bodies, 6 lenses and a tripod and access to places not offered to the general public.

We had 2 dedicated photographers that shot from the stands or field when they could and I shot stills from up high while recording. I'm sure our band yearbook coordinators are pulling her their hair out.

If you can set up an arrangement like this, you can get stills and vids on bus rides to and from events, rehearsals, warm-ups and band halls. I'm producing an end of year video and being able to capture video and/or audio of inspirational speaches from directors and drum majors before release makes great conent.

Heck of a game today BTW. 54 yarder with seconds to go. Best football so far this season.

I shot all the video for Henny this year.

I found that standard cam corders just don't cut it.

I use a Nikon D3300 DSLR with a 18-55mm 0.25m/0.82ft 55mm lens. The lens covers 8 yard line to 8 yard line easy and I had to zoom in at the Alamo Dome.

The D3300 has the ability to tune the audio and with the factory battery gets 22 minutes of 1080P 60fps.

You can find them used pretty much anywhere. I picked up a back up 2 weeks after school started with 2 lens kit and bag for $300. Ended up shooting video with one and high stills with the other. Very happy with the results. Directors were happy too.

Keller killed it. Best sounding high school band in the parade.
My daughter snap chatted with a couple members of the band after they finished. Chipped reads, reads frozen to mouth pieces, brass iced over and they seemed to be the only band in tune.
Awesome show. Keller did Texas proud.
