I was noticing exactly the same thing. It’s a shame we don’t have the guard culture here overall like they have in parts of Indiana, California and Florida. CTJ and The Woodlands definitely seem unaffected though. TWHS did do a WGI winter guard season this year though and so did CTJ (both were very successful too), which obviously kept them from falling off. I don’t believe that Bowie had a winter season. I know Leander sure didn’t. These directors meant well by suspending the season last year for Covid, but the impact on some of these groups may take years to overcome. But it can be done and I’m still gonna be here watching, no matter what. ? I just wish we could get these kids started in guard EARLY!!

It was a great contest other than the terrible heat. Seems like this regional should be moved to later in the season rather than having it always be the first contest! I mean come on, it gets HOT in South Texas. ??

Everyone ready for this tomorrow?! I hope the new streaming service can handle the load! Remember there are three regionals happening, including one in Dayton. This will be our first chance to get a glimpse of Carmel HS! (They perform in prelims at 10:15 central). Can not wait to see John B Alexander’s show and I’m so excited to see bands from San Antonio, Georgetown, Pflugerville and Grapevine making the trip down!

I still can’t get over how gorgeous the new uniforms are as well! And that guard!! ???

This is going to be one of the best contests of the season!

I am really digging it this year as well! I have VERY high hopes for the Castle Marching Knights this season.

I’m not quite ready to throw the Dragon Band onto the scrap heap just yet. Maybe they’re just off to a slow start like so many others. I definitely can’t wait to see Cedar Ridge’s show. And those new uniforms!!! ? ? ? But the RRISD show I’m most excited about seeing this year is Westwood!! That thing is great and will be fantastic by San Antonio. I head back to Austin a week from tomorrow for a long weekend. I. Can’t. Wait.

@Rubiscoit definitely seems to be a rebuilding year for Leander. I’m not sure what the reason is when so many other bands aren’t having this issue but it is what it is I guess. The guard definitely took a huge hit. I sure hope to see things get back to “Leander normal” in the next few years!!! It makes me sad to see them slipping. ?

BOA Austin now stands at 25 competing bands beginning at 8:00 am with Stony Point and ending the prelims portion of the day with Vandegrift at 4:00 pm.

I don’t think anyone is betting against any of these top 16 bands just yet. Problem is, there’s only 12 finalist spots. This year there will certainly be some jaws dropping when the top 12 are announced and some of the “never miss” bands names aren’t called. #whatacontest

I did gain some insight and was able to watch both bands. I still don’t know what to fully expect from Leander. They do look a bit smaller, yet more promising than I first thought. Vista has an ambitious book for sure. Don’t worry tho, they WILL get it cleaned up and they will perform the heck out of it later this season. I still look for VR to be in the medal hunts all season long. Also, after seeing CTJ this past week, I am now thinking they take BOA Austin. But it’s a crapshoot at this point trying to predict this thing!
