  1. I’ll add to that in saying they place solidly at a BOA Prosper or Waco, top half or just below it more than likely, it’s just more stacked typically. They have some timing issues in their woodwind features sometimes, but I can overlook it with the consistency and clarity of their tone, along with the brass of course, they give UIL judges very little to complain about haha. Aside from their explosive hit in the beginning they’re very inside-the-box clear and clean with their sound, no harshness to it at all! They’re just a very solid all-around group that is continuing to perform their show at a high level, they should make state without question for me
  2. I thought they did really good!! They’re on my finals bubble as well👀
  3. SGP is in finals bubble for me, really enjoyed their show!! I also can’t get enough of how pretty Ice Dance sounds!☺️☺️
  4. State Worthy performances from Waxahachie and TC so far in this block, very great job by the both of them!!
  5. Looking to be there right after the break in an hour to hear Waxahachie wooooo
  6. Appreciate the honesty!!😂
  7. It’s weird that Area C has a “prediction” thread but no actual event thread, I feel like it precludes some information about the even not being talked about or shared. My long winded way of asking for someone to please post the schedule haha. Can’t find it on the Area page!!
  8. Duncanville closely reflects a UIL rubric, when you see the caliber of bands around them, especially the ones that they placed right below of, I wouldn’t doubt that they’re live in the 3-state-slot race in Area C! Probably placing higher than many people have had them in their predictions up to this point, we’ll see!
  9. Being in their region, Lake Ridge has been doing well in head-to-head with their other fellow Mansfield schools, and my alma mater in one of the Arlington schools in all-region auditions for as long as I can remember! They prop up their kids to be successful in the fall for the spring, and of course their feeders I’m sure are fantastic. Always liked them as a group, a bit puzzled in their relative obscurity in the marching band scene, but I anticipate continued growth from them.
  10. That one is definitely a no no haha
  11. https://www.hornrank.com/2022/10/prosper-prelims-oct-15-2022.html?m=1 https://www.hornrank.com/2022/10/prosper-finals-oct-15-2022.html?m=1 A better, cleaner look at scores👀
  12. That would be me, but then Forney got scored 1st in VPI and then 12th(!!!) in VPE in prelims so any hopes of that happening are dashed with them being relegated to bottom half, where BOA still can’t honestly adjudicate groups with that top half/bottom half split being forced in, at least the way I see it haha. I’m using an example from last week’s DFW contest as an example here, no shade to the group that has to be used as one so my apologies in advance, okkk, 6th place L.D Bell here was 2.25 points better than our 3rd place band here in Waxahachie, who was 8th at DFW I. Do I believe this to be the case or believable? No, simply no, definitely not. I went with a friend, we both truly believed Waxahachie was better on that day when we saw the show in prelims, but one band made top half and the other didn’t, and we get this disparity in scoring. I just think it’s a tad bit silly, if I’m honest.
  13. Really wanna see these detailed scores now👀
  14. This is the main circumstance where I see this happen, butttt of course every year brings something different to the table, and I think DFW bands being more present in those huge contests will definitely serve them well when facing off against the Austin groups that do BOA year in and year out.
  15. There is a lot of parity to be had within all the major regions, what I’m about to say is greatly due to DFW being a mega-region compared to Austin and San Antonio simply being smaller, but there is a LOT of depth to go around in DFW, and yeah like you and i have said, they don’t indulge the major out of Area contests like BOA all that much, but that’s definitely changing more and more with the newer Waco Midland and DFW II regionals, so many more schools are giving it a try. Austin Area also just punches everyone in the face for attention with their amazing BOA regional typically being first on the calendar. Some shine is taken away from all the great groups up here, but give them credit, they show out for the state of Texas in a great way. I’m up here in DFW so, rah rah DFW all the way over here, don’t mind us being like “hey look at us too” as long as it’s not disrespectful haha.
  16. I mainly think it’s due to them not being as prolific in BOA, many skip out on the BOA San Antonio party haha. Although they’re continuing to improve in that area as well, people need to look out👀
  17. And yet still slept on somehow? Maybe it’s just me haha
  18. Very awesome group of finalists here, SLC gets their redemption and an oppportunity for a second performance tonight, that’s always great to see! OK representative in Owasso making it too wooo, so many “W” bands too haha
  19. Personally I have them as a lock for finals here, bordering on top half, their show seems catered to what BOA wants haha, also their keyhole visuals are very cool👀
  20. Some of my thoughts from beginning to end of Hebron’s show, some spoken out loud, some kept in my head, my friend that was with me somehow was able to quietly observe for the most part, but here we go: “mic check is going smoothly for the soloists, these guys are just automatic, they get a few notes in and are ready to go and they sound like it” that was a thought in my head to start. “Love the backfield playing and soprano solo to start! Absolutely love it and this opening hit, not as boastful as Penstriped, but it doesn’t need to be, just so effortless!” “Awesome Piccolo solo, woodwind choir is so so good, they just love scoring them so high up!! You don’t hear that out here too often!” This is all still in my head of course, me and my friend are silently watching at this point, and then the brass come in once more, my first “GOOD GOD!” audibly comes out, I just put my head down and kept shaking my head, I was honestly overwhelmed, and asked out loud a few times “WHY IS THERE A DRUM CORPS HORNLINE OUT THERE??” throughout the next minute and a half of destruction that happened out there. “And we got the ballad now, oozing of something BD would do” “soloists hand off to each other, the second of the two is…oh so good…” (trying to keep it vague) “THE WOODWINDS ARE SO AUDIBLE AND SCORED SO HIGH JEEEZ!!” “These modulations and key changes are so niceee!” Lovely ballad as always from Hebron! My friend finally broke down when he heard the featured saxophones in the closer as he is a sax player himself haha(Hebron always features saxes, this year is no exception, don’t think this is too spoiler-y) “Oh **** they have that Bari playing all that?! Jesus!!” I laughed at that pretty hard, and we just watched the rest after that as it was mostly standstill. I’m sure Hebron will have that final part of their show out soon and I can’t wait to watch their show again at their Area competition at the end of the month, I have no doubt their performance will reach new heights and be a lot cleaner than what their boa DFW was!! Not long after that is BOA SA and UIL state and I wish them luck and success at all of them!!
  21. In the current system…hmmm I forget how many minimum qualifiers there are for each area, but the number of bands that are able to qualify for state all hinges on how many groups are able to advance to area in the first place, as you’ve seen discussed in the thread quite a bit. I think Area B in particular could’ve had a maximum of 7 bands advance to state, with the number of 6A groups that exist in the area, but now with some groups getting 2’s at region, the max number is down to 6, and the magic number to reduce that to 5 bands is 4. 4 bands or more get 2’s and then the number drops again. Region 30, all 6A bands are locks for area qualification, the HEB duo, Haltom, Coppell, and Carroll are locks every day of the week, so all eyes are on region 20 and how they do to see how many bands make Area.
  22. Ties have happened before, but not due to the same judge tying them, as you of course don’t really see that, but more so with the ordinals added up being tied. and it all has to do with each area being strictly allotted the number of bands they’re able to send. If an area can only send 5 bands then it can’t be 6, tie has to be broken somehow👀
  23. I believe there’s judges’ preference when it comes to breaking the tie of a total ordinal score, if both bands get a total of 33 and there’s an even number of judges that liked both because there’s a judge that tied them, it just makes things more complicated. I forget how many judges they have for UIL when it comes to area and State, but I believe it’s an odd number for both!
  24. Most easy answer to that, someone has to be above/below someone else. For the sake of the rankings.
