  1. Agreed, we’ll see what LISD north pulls out of their hats next year though. I most certainly will be there to watch as a DFW local here haha
  2. I would say for Hebron, they probably just took their show a bit too fast, and yeah, the mello sustain I felt was a bit off most of the time I heard. You can do a lot right and be incredibly proficient at your instrument, but if you stick out, you do get ticked, it does matter. I love how hard Hebron pushes their students in their performance too. You can also see just how pure Vista ridge sounded all throughout, they were so impressive as well so I do see why they edged ahead of Hebron in brass, even if they didn’t have the higher content score. I feel like reiterating my point that their 2021 show placed as high as they did in the music scores for a reason, they were just the better sounding band by quite a significant margin, whereas you could say that was the case *completely* this year. There were some rough edges that made it be just slightly less than pristine compared to other groups that were able to match them better this year. But even then they were still one of the best sounding groups in the state and still as excellent as ever and had a great finish to their year! I can’t wait to see how they do for themselves the rest of the year, especially with their selection to TMEA honor band. It’ll be awesome to hear this group again in the spring! And then next fall, we’ll see what they do then👀
  3. I’m aware, but from what I’ve observed in this contest, they’re fine so far
  4. Percussion judges definitely call it like it is, but I’m sure the woodwind and brass judges also do a pretty fine job as well haha
  5. At least the UIL discreditors/disregarders can’t use the “retired old timey teacher judge” card anymore lol
  6. I would predict there to be quite a bit of movement in most captions tomorrow. I wonder how much in the musical section performance captions. I feel the judges were mostly in the ballpark, but I do still anticipate some change there as well
  7. If you gave TC 20’s in both C/D and Visual ensemble, they would have jumped up to 16th or so in the standings, what I feel should’ve been their true ranking. Even if they wouldn’t have made finals regardless, they still got tanked real hard there, and I don’t really see why
  8. I wouldn’t put too much stock in it. Both bands have pretty much been neck and neck all year, it could go either way
  9. Perhaps I’m wrong in saying that Hebron’s percussion scores can’t get a few placements better in finals, going last definitely helps. But yeah, they can’t tear like they did in prelims if they wanna improve that score, they can’t tear. No one else is gonna be doing that in finals
  10. I feel like FloMo’s woodwinds are stronger than 11th but I also don’t believe that their show really does its best to show them off besides a few moments here and there, bassoon box can only take you so far👀
  11. Probably the captions that have the least impact on me personally, but while they are there, one must play into it indeed haha
  12. Percussion is believable, and I don’t see it moving up too much in finals at all. Cont/design though I believe will shore up to top 5 or better in finals imo people should also keep an eye on Marcus percussion. I believed it to be their trump card coming in as they are right up there with Cedar Ridge in 2nd. It’s not settled there just yet!!
  13. TC got tanked SO hard by the Vis ensemble and Cont/design judges…oooof
  14. I just clicked the link quickly and didn’t ask any questions lol
  15. Someone show me recaps👀
  16. Many bands this year have been using phantom 2021’s music. Probably speaks again to the popularity of their show and utility of the music haha
  17. I thought the same on more than one occasion
  18. I’d just like to point out, I did mention this a few comments up from yours👀 as for hornlines, I believe Hebron has sections that can definitely hang with other bubble finalist hornlines due to their chops and difficulty of the material they’re playing. You also mentioned quality being comparable and I definitely see Hebron’s trumpet sections of the previous two years and Hebron’s low brass last year to have IT👀 they were astounding to watch and listen to
  19. This isn’t the argument I’m trying to make tbh😂 but I do appreciate the optimism! Virtually every Texas band would have to downsize about 100 students to fit the DCI maximum requirements. Of course much of that would be woodwinds, but even still! I wouldn’t go that far, considering the leaps that every program would have to undergo when it comes to visual design, guard work and percussion capabilities. Some could do it with a more selective and challenged hornline, but you do definitely need the whole package to make DCI finals👀👀
  20. Quite a few people would either still scoff at the notion or worse, ridicule one for even mentioning the possibility, but if they are at that level or approaching it, we have to view it for what it is!
  21. I think you’re right too, as the top 5 is so incredibly solid, the judges got it right at BOASA, I believe they will at state as well. If Marcus surprises everyone and medals though, that also shouldn’t be surprising, I think? It’s just how Marcus and UIL rolls haha
  22. I tried to add in my edits that I might be underselling them a bit by saying that. Their trumpet sections of both years have been incredible, their low brass as well, but last year’s low brass was OTHERWORLDLY, especially when comparing it to other high school groups. 2021 Hebron Low brass was simply on another level last year that I would say was in World class finals territory. Especially if they were put to the rigors of a DCI summer schedule and spring prep. Not even joking i listen to 2021 off of my enjoyment of listening to those trombones in that show alone
  23. I have Marcus in the top half as well, I said they would make it with ease due to how much their show caters to UIL but even then now, I might have to retract saying it would be easy for them as no one is wanting to give an inch here today👀
  24. It’s not top heavy though! Made my case about this in one of the earlier pages😂
  25. I think Hebron’s hornline of the last two seasons has definitely been of a World Class semis level of quality, no question in my mind.
