UIL Area B 2022
Vidal28 replied to SEAstar23's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I believe the three digit number matters much less than the single digit ordinal ranking that results from that number. Several judges’ may have different scaling and ranges when rating schools, at least from what I’ve seen. Like, one of the music judges could have a band scored at a 909, but still have them ranked 6th overall, whereas the next judge over has a band with a score of 915 and they’re ranked 3rd. The only numbers that matter are the “6” and “3” despite the three digit score being so close. I imagine that’s why the “tied score affecting rankings” scenario doesn’t really happen, judges just scale things differently -

Would have to see a performance of theirs, see what happened -

I could’ve sworn for Region 5, I saw 4 groups from 6A not advance, not 5. I’ve looked over the results quite a few times, but maybe I’m just missing it over and over👀 -

Only regions 5 and 30 have had their region contests with 20 and 31 going next week I believe. Every 6A group in region 30 made a 1 and did their part thankfully. -

3 of them in my former home school school district, I am quite sad for that fact -

Every year is a prelude to the next when it comes with Hebron, they’re always pushing themselves in their performance and it shows. They are unbelievable -

Loved y’all’s show!! There were quite a few videos of you guys out there before the contest and I liked your show a lot, but it felt a bit flat, and video often does a lot of injustice to many groups, hearing you guys live was awesome! I appreciated the commitment to the angry, dark “primal” theme, the ballad was a great departure from it all, and you guys just have a great sound overall, hope you guys keep having a successful season! -

I usually always have a recording from this contest, butttt since my lame friends didn’t wanna stay for finals, they’ll instead make it up to me and we’ll be going to catch them at Area C finals at the end of the month, definitely cannot wait for that👀👀 -

Better friends than mine! They just didn’t wanna stay the whole day😂 but we did watch all of prelims and I’m watching the stream now. Probably a good choice mostly ‘cause I’m finding myself exhausted now😪 And yes this finals and all the bands participating have been REAL GOOD, and now we’re finishing it off one band left to go! Edit: 2 to go with Exhibition! -

Oh i don’t mean from today, but before then! Many of us hadn’t seen a high cam with good audio behind it. From the ground and up top for me, Hebron’s quality of performance shines through for me to where I don’t think Flower Mound should beat them, personally, despite their elaborate and unique visual concept -

Very limited info for many on both groups to be fair, first I saw of Hebron was today in the stands, and they no doubt deserved their placement in prelims. I expect finals to be no different -

Looking at the program notes for the contest, titles and repertoire for each group, one that really caught my eye was Waxahachie, going all with the Paris theme, love that they’re doing the Ratatouille main theme and Paris Sketches along with it, very lovely music choices and I can’t wait to hear what they do with them! -

1. Hebron(GE, Music, Tie Visual with Marcus) 2. Marcus(Tie Visual with Hebron) 3. Flower Mound 4. Coppell 5. Keller 6. Wakeland 7. Timber Creek 8. L.D. Bell 9. Southlake Carroll 10. Waxahachie 11. Lone Star 12. HP Those are my predictions, I hate giving predictions when I haven’t seen some of the groups in Hebron, Bell, Waxahachie, Carroll and Highland Park, don’t wanna sell anyone short! But then again, making finals here is definitely a tough task, several more great groups on the outside bubble looking in for sure. -

Saw a video of flower mound from this past weekend and I honestly see them dropping to 3rd, below Marcus, I think the musical production is a lot more bare than other groups weighing and depending heavily on their percussion, from what I saw performed at Wylie at least. They’re more than likely adding more to their closer by Saturday and that might help, but Marcus was incredibly solid this past weekend with a more involved musical production in all and a more put together show imo personally, they’ve come out really strong this year. Wakeland and Coppell are strong contenders for top 3 as well with a dark horse potentially in Keller too, just my opinion at least -

Definitely would not say Marcus was LEAGUES above everyone else, although I probably might say that about Hebron next week(it just might be) but we shall see👀 Carry on😳 Edit: I will say they were probably levels above in using their percussion in their creativity, as a driver of momentum and for emphasizing their dramatic moments, they were phenomenal, battery, front ensemble, all very AWESOME! -

Probably more the recording, and of course the first two movements for Coppell were definitely a bit more bombastic, but they definitely took a lot of edge off during their ballad and leading into it. Coppell’s size has a role in that as well, they were still very much in a similar approach to Marcus in never going over the edge of their sound, and even then both schools had their moments of “putting on some heat” so to speak🔥👀 Edit: was able to watch most of prelims live, got their a little bit late but yeah, a good vantage point, a few rows from the front, side 1, 45 yd line. Might be on side 2 a little higher up in finals we’ll see if I get back to the stadium early enough!😂 there is quite a large crowd today!
