  1. Once we get those SOLIDLY CONFIRMED Out-of-State big hitters, and even just finalist/finalist-bubble contender bands attending, that’s when things’ll really start getting into gear, and 2022 will shape up to be the most insane SA competition to date, it’s always crazy to say that when the current year’s competition was already amazing, but it always somehow gets better!! Many DFW area bands hopefully returning, as many for one reason or another, didn’t go this past year to amp up the difficulty of the contest even more. Along with hopefully some Out-of-State bands, let’s see if it’s in the cards!!
  2. I would not be surprised seeing these music scores, that if Hebron went to grand nats they wouldn’t get that Crown 2013 treatment*cough*perfect music score*cough*😤
  3. Hebron actually did, in their previous record breaking semis performance✨✨
  4. CONGRATULATIONS TO HEBRON!!! SO WELL DESERVED!!🎉🎉🎉
  5. Treating the performance aspects of their program as if they’re so much a given that we have to highlight what some may view is lacking, yes. It is always good for people to appreciate what they see ultimately though, when it comes to any group ‘cause the effort is clearly evident through the performance these students give👏👏👏
  6. That’s pretty much what I’m getting at. I’m personally already on board with anything I see from them, and I got to see them early hs football season EARLY, and they were already so good only seeing like 3 minutes of the show at that point😂 and also then a month later seeing them at BOA DFW always taking my place right up close just to the right of the 50, fully expecting to be blown away and still walking away amazed, for me the night was won by them, even then but the scores said otherwise. I think the direction that the students get at Hebron isn’t often discussed either, the students always are on the ball, focused and prepared, and it shows, always seeming like they make the challenge even more difficult every year when we’re all thinking, how does a high school do this? To begin with😂
  7. I can’t imagine hearing this much positivity about Hebron’s potential just several weeks ago, just proves how much things can change when you get to show everyone why you’re one of the CONSISTENT top performing marching bands in the state and in the country, along with the marvelous musical capabilities that are fairly unrivaled in the activity, trying to phrase it as humbly as I can, hopefully I did that. I think it’s just a matter of embracing and not taking for granted what they bring to the table for all of us that get the opportunity to watch them, as I know I always do when I see them, I just take it all in😊
  8. That music ensemble judging still puzzles me somewhat🤔🙃
  9. Seems plausible and legit for sure👀
  10. The last several years of resurgence from them is now capped off with a UIL finals appearance, fantastic year for them, and another DFW force to contend with is always welcome🔥🔥
  11. Recap fairy would be great rn👀👀
  12. Definitely agree, their tone color is still very much characteristically FloMo, a bit brighter, piercing at times, but has such great clarity when they’re at their best, I feel like some sections muddy their sound up quite a bit where that blend isn’t there, particularly in the middle voices. I can name a few spots in particular I have an issue with in that regard, but I’d rather just not talk about it, if it simply gets fixed like we all know they can do!!🔥🔥
  13. I would feel the same about the tuning ‘cause FloMo has such quality performers, but that ensemble tuning I feel has been off a bit all year, it hasn’t seemed to have hurt them in competitions so far, but I imagine in state finals and grand nats, that could push them out of winning the necessary music caption, to a lower than expected caption placement. It’s just my inclination from how I’ve heard their performance progress over the season.
  14. Let’s not forget, a whole multitude of WW and Brass ensemble/section features as well for Hebron, I really wouldn’t say it’s that heavily soloistic even though of course there are moments👀
  15. Not everyone does it the same for sure, and everyone for sure has varying degrees of synth implementation in their shows. From far away it can help give some more girth to the sound if need be, but if it’s particularly really heavy usage, from the front up close perspective it can be overbearing and i feel can detract and be distracting, and is not beyond criticism. Even with a wide implementation of usage, it’s not 100% positive in its contribution to the activity, i think that’s what sometimes gets lost in the conversation of what “progress” means for the activity, and oftentimes, trends can be established as a necessity to winning, checking a GE Box or what have you, in whether you have a “winning formula” or not.
  16. I was going to be very glib and say “well thanks to those dance sections in this year’s show and the very blatant drumline dance break a la SCV 2018, 2019 or any BD show, in 2019’s show, Hebron finally *learned* BOA visual performance and GE!!! *biggest eye roll*🙄” I wholeheartedly agree, and Hebron has definitely proven they do both playing and marching just as good as anyone out there, particularly with what they put on the field every year for their music program🔥🔥🔥 Edit: I wanna make clear I’m not getting on Hebron for playing the game either, and I’m not going to knock any group for having a style that caters to the more towards the corps style that is more prevalent nowadays, I’m just not moved by it particularly.
  17. That was peculiar to me too, something I noticed, but I’m honestly on the camp of not minding the judges being out there personally
  18. HEBRON!!!!!!! THE CURSE IS GONE THANK GOODNESS!!! So well deserved from them to win! I wish for them even more success in the future, and bold prediction time…the third time…will be the charm…They WILL get that Eagle, they WILL get a NATTY the next time they go to Grand Nats🔥🔥👀
  19. Saw a comment on another forum where regarding the “Texas Loud” stereotype, they said “if I want my face blown off, I’ll just watch DCI” if a high school ensemble can handle it, absolutely let them go as full out as possible👀 I’m always here for it🔥🔥🔥
  20. I don’t think it’s arguable that SA is the tougher overall competition pretty much every year, the difficulty of getting into finals is arguably more difficult and not at the same time, only really ‘cause there’s two less spots to go around. There’s around a 15-29 place battleground every year with so many bands deserving of finalist spots in nearly any other competition besides probably only grand nats for those near the bottom end of that range. It’s always a deeper contest, and for me the difficulty of making finals on the lesser number of spots alone is not the only metric for the actual difficulty of the contest.
  21. Somewhat, but at least it isn’t Woodlands’ performance slot😦😦
  22. I’ve always had a very positive opinion on Hebron this year all around, and it’s just ‘cause they deserve all the credit in the world through the incredible effort they show on the field, playing ridiculously difficult music on the move, having made the demand even more difficult on the students through the quickened pace the show has developed throughout the season, and the students continually step up to that challenge, every section has their moment to shine and they all take it, my favorites have got to be the low brass(trombones were just so unreal and excellent) and the saxophone ensemble in the ballad. The full woodwind and brass ensemble moments go without saying, such an amazing performance!
  23. Unfortunately the timing hasn’t been right for the SA champion to also take their shot at the Eagle since 2013, really sucks how that’s shaped out😂 even though Vandy did win last Grand Nats, woooo!! let’s see what the champion can do please!?
