It is UIL weekend. They won't be there. From what I understand USBands is a completely different scoring system than BOA. I saw the list of bands competing and really didn't recognize hardly any of them. If the Carroll is Southlake Carroll then they should do OK. I saw them at UIL a couple years ago and they put on a good show. They have rec'd a 1 rating the last few years at UIL region

Tonight is Flower Mound HS (Hornrank #2) hosting Hebron HS (Hornrank #4). Talk about to big time bands at one HS game. Let's hope the rain stays away until the second half. Anyone else going with me?

Although it might be good for some band programs in Texas. 6A is odd years while 5A is even years. There are some very good bands in 5A. Maybe they will be inspired to make an "off-year" trip. I Do agree that should the current schedule for UIL State Finals stay the same, there will be fewer bands going to GN on state years.

Glad I'll be in the pressbox for the FMHS vs Hebron game on the 20th But then again my season tickets for FMHS football are row 33 (all the way at the top) sitting at the 50

I'll be there as my son is on the Football team. Come around to the home side at halftime to watch the show. I'll be all the way at the top at mid-field.

Byron Nelson intrigues me. They are in a FAST growing region and seem to have resources. They moved from (UIL) 5A to 6A recently and are still growing. I don't know about their feeder schools or their directors but they could be one of those bands we are all talking about in a few years.

I am still there on Friday Nights (my son plays football) and I cheer on the other LISD programs. Argyle is growing too. I won't be going to San Antonio but I will probably go to the Dallas regional.

No, will not be able to go to Nats this year. I will probably host or go to a watch party. If I had kids in the band you could not keep me away.

We still follow the band. My daughter graduated in '15 so this is the last year of knowing several of the other kids that were freshmen in 15. We have a few family friends with kids in the band. We still help with fundraisers and are loosely connected with the band.

I am a Flower Mound Alumni Band Parent. Marcus was great this year. Congrats to you on your season. I was glad to see you guys get a grand reception when you returned home from SA.

Guess where Argyle is located.... Just west of Flower Mound, as in the Town of Flower Mound, home to the Flower Mound HS and FM Marcus HS.

I wonder how the new schedule will impact the bands. The extra day could be really good or really bad in some areas. After all, these are still kids many are away from home since Friday night/Saturday morning through Wednesday. They probably rested and had a rehearsal yesterday. Will do some school work, region practice, rehearsal again today (hopefully with a fun event tonight). Good luck to all the bands and extra special thanks to all the chaperones taking time away from their lives to look after and protect the kids while they are away.

I think the Texas bands will be strong at Grand Nats. Leander had a big fall at the end of their finals performance and it seemed like the vocalist for Reagan missed a count and came in too early during finals. I don't know how much it impacted their overall score, but it didn't help either one. CTJ has the bulk of the week to continue to polish and tweak their show. I think they will bring something big to Indy. I wish I had more info on Bowie. I only have info about their show from the earlier regional.

Yes, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED at the quality of the video feed I purchased. They missed so much of the performances and the sound was horrible.

Yes it is sad to see. The marching drumline shows are a real treat. I guess the overlap of learning a big time BOA show and then a Marching drumline show has hurt this competition.

They changed it this year. The bands finishing in the top 7 in prelims had the last 7 performance times in a draw. The second 7 had the first 7 performance times in a draw.

This is mentioned every year. It sounds nice in thought, but really there is no better place to have a marching band Grand National Championship than Indy right now. There are very few locations who have the combination of accommodations that Indy has. There are few other large stadiums who have the acoustic qualities that the Drum has. I would love to see Grand Nats in Dallas, but there isn't a combination of facilities that could handle it. Plus the acoustics in Jerry World are HORRIBLE.
