lostbandmom42 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Can anyone please help me understand how UIL area competitions are scored. This is my first one, and I'd like to understand it. Thank you. Amy Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 It involves multiple judges and dartboards... Kidding. lostbandmom42 and rdmmp 2 Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 There are 5 judges, 3 for music and 2 for marching. Each scores up to 200 points. Each judges' score for all bands is ranked from 1 (highest) to X (lowest) where X is the number of bands in the competition. That rank is called an ordinal. All ordianals for a give band are summed. Lowest sum wins. Next lowest sum is 2nd, etc. If two bands have the same sum, the band preferred by more judges (by ordinals) places above the other. Quote

I greatly appreciate your help. But are we sure it isn't by the dartboard method? lol.. JFNDOWBFAN 1 Quote

It is different from the scores, but it gives you a pretty clear idea how each judge feels an individual band has performed. Quote
Dog885 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Yeah, when I first saw the ordinals I didn’t even notice the actual numbered score above it until 2 years later Quote
lostbandmom42 Posted October 28, 2018 Author Posted October 28, 2018 Thank you all for helping me. I could understand better when our directors were talking to the Boosters, and drum majors this evening. Quote
