Any thoughts after 2-3 weeks of band competions?

The top 12/14 is going to be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Flower Mound back in the top 3

2.Hebron

I was the tuba for Cy Fair that messed up the coreo at the beginning of the show in 2023 at state finals and we are doing the same coreo that I messed up then so that means I’m messing it up again at state finals. Lol

You got this! You're going to crush it

  2. Flower Mound H.S.
     (TX): 87.200 (Dallas Mid-Cities Regional, October 4)

I take it with a grain of salt. There’s been some non-Boa comps with BOA judging/scoring in addition to these. TMC on 10/11 for example, Vande scored a 91.65 in finals, Vista Ridge 90.35, MGJ 89.1, Reagan 88.2, etc. Def feel like the list above doesn’t do Vande justice, and the others are all at least contenders for sure if we’re talking about making state, even finals, for UIL.

My prediction is-- there are going to be a lot of great shows at BOA-GN this year. :)

Would love to see one of the Texas schools win it.  FloMo had my favorite Texas 6A show last year, but I really liked Marcus as well.  I haven't seen either of their shows this year yet.  I'll almost certainly see FloMo in San Antonio but I think Marcus isn't going this year?  That's a shame, would love to see them live at some point.

I've seen Vandegrift perform several times now this season, their show is excellent.  Wouldn't be at all surprising to me if they won at State UIL 6A.

I know you mean BOA Toledo, but  I chuckled at the thought that Avon had come to BOA Austin and finally beat Vandegrift (a band that has the distinction of having a lossless record in every round of competition against Avon)

sorry, pulled that from AI - always a gamble.  LISD has incredible programs and we're incredibly fortunate to have both a district that supports us as well as incredibly strong competitors statewide.  That competition just helps make us better and raises the bar.  I just don't understand why no one predicts Marcus in 1st - ever.  Full disclosure my son is a Senior in Marcus Band. We were 2nd in 2023 at UIL state, and 3rd at BOA, and 3rd at BOA, 6th at UIL state in 2024, and we have a very strong show this year. I would argue for entertainment value alone it's a stellar program. I do subscribe to the "any given Sunday" rule though - any one of these programs in the top 10 could come out on top in any given year.  We're always the "underdog" in this crowd against Vandegrift, Flomo and Hebron.

I would never call Marcus the underdog in any contest but I do understand the sentiment. I feel much the same way about Vista Ridge, a contender to any contest they enter but rarely predicted to win. I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the top bands from either LISD (north or south) wins UIL 6A state or BOA this year.

Btw, I LOVE Vista's show this year. I really thought they had a chance to upset Vande at TMC this past weekend.

We all know the top dogs….. but we with regions wrapping up over the next few days and about 10 days from Areas…

Who are some new faces we might see in San Antonio. Any surprises we may not see? See in Area B forums they may only be able to bring 3 bands in 2025 unless they get some unexpected Region help Saturday.
