TexasStrangers Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Glad to see Farmersville finally get in. I think they had been alternate in Area B for like the past 3 contests. Gpk1968 and Cloud902 2 Quote

Crazybandkid08 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Dang, Paris broke their 6 years streak of making state. Quote

Gigger_Frog Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Van Alstyne was so close. I personally thought they had a better finals than prelims BandDad85 1 Quote
TexasStrangers Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I was talking to a director yesterday whose school made it to state and he told me what UIL did to Area was not right adding all these bands from Area B to Area C making it harder for schools to qualify in all classifications. Quote

It's tough being alternate for so long because the area you were in was super brutal. Quote
Popular Post wtxbd02 Posted November 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2024 This area is BRUTAL. Congrats to all the bands who advanced and made finals or got close. Definitely one of the toughest gauntlets in UIL now. Dave609, unkownuser2298 and SETXgal 3 Quote

That makes no sense because with the addition of the bands from region 25, MORE schools advanced. Last year this area sent five bands. This year they sent seven and were super close to sending eight. Only two of those bands are former region b bands. Quote

I am not an expert at all this, was just simply making small talk with a director and talking about the level of competition. Could it be the reason more bands advanced to state was because not only with the addition of 25 but also it appeared in every class (5A,4A,3A,2A) there were more bands then ever that got 1's and advanced to Area then last year. If you would have taken all the military bands out from this Area then only 4 would have advanced to state leaving out Farmersville, Lumberton and PG. Quote
wtxbd02 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Just because a band didn't do as well as you wanted doesn't mean you get to come on here and spread baseless and silly misinformation. Area notoriously produces crazy results every year. It's no surprise. Keeping an eye on this topic....... Gpk1968 and thejitfromband 2 Quote

Anyway I've been talking a lot on the state forum about judges and how they did a bad job in this area and area b. I still think that. However, if we really had a judge panel that would take bribes Canton would have made state no questions asked. That's because they're known to make state so a bad judge panel wouldn't bat an eye and send canton. I made it look like I hated the judging but yes it was okay. Maybe 3-5 mistakes which isn't too bad. But to go on hear and accuse these men of taking bribes for a band contest is just dumb and unnecessary. Quote

I believe at the state level contests, there is a system in place where UIL actually monitors the judges who are scoring the contests as it is going on in case someone decides to go rogue. No judging contest is going to be 100% accurate which I believe the 4A State Contest is actually going to use the "7 Judging System" this year as a pilot. Yes, there were some scores in the 4A Area C that had you scratching your head but in the end I think it all worked out like it should. I realize everyone wants their school to win but in the end I don't think anybody is getting screwed or cheated. The judges at the end of the day are being evaluated too by UIL and if you have someone that does a terrible job then they don't get asked back again. Quote
