2026 UIL 5A State Marching Contest (Nov 2&3)
Gpk1968 replied to M3llos 0n t0p's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
I don’t think Celina will knock it out of the park first year, but I do think they are a solid contender for area finals and could potentially be a bubble band. I don’t think Panther will come out as strong. IMO - their shows have not been 5A shows. Who knows though? -

UIL 4A State Marching Band Contest 2026 (Nov. 11)

I could definitely see Kaufman as a state finalist contender. I’m not sure if he still does, but at one point Jerry Miller was their show designer and his show designs have won 4A state the past four years. I’m not putting all the credit on him, because there are definitely way more moving parts than the designer but I’m just making a point. That being said, I haven’t seen them in a few years and 5A Area C is (imho) not the beast that 4A area C is. With celina moving up, that does give an extra spot to someone though. -

I have some insight as to what happened with the Anna program. They were already in decline before they left 4a. They went to a 4 day week and lost their assistant director (who is now at North Lamar). This coupled with some administrative mismanagement issues (district wide) really tanked that program. Teachers were literally flooding out of the district. My wife was offered a lot of money to go the high school and be a team lead to help turn some things around and she declined because the morale was so low. I keep rooting for them to rebound. I don’t think comparing Celina to Anna is a fair comparison. I’ve been following the rapid rise of this program since about 2019 or 2020. I would put celina more on the same trajectory as Argyle, or maybe Melissa at worst. I don’t think they are going to come in year one and make a bold statement but I do think they will be up there in a few years, especially with the growth out there. The band has the potential to be BIG and they aren’t projecting a new high school for I think 4-5 years. I’m sure for year one they are just aiming to make area finals, and they go from there.

Won’t Sulphur go to area c?

Celina is definitely moving up. The question is, will they keep their 5A region in area c or move them to area b. The 4A schools from their region currently go to Lindale. if they end up in area b, I would personally lump them in with Melissa/heritage/independence. They beat Melissa at McKinney performing what was probably their absolute worst run of the season. If their numbers continue to grow, I think they could be a contender. A lot of factors are at play regarding realignment at the moment, however. I don’t think any of the schools who are potentially moving up pose quite the threat Celina does. I’m not saying they are going to come in and dethrone LT and LS by any means, but I think they are definitely an area finalist contender and possibly one of the bubble bands to state
