As you discredit and misjudge NL….. lol

You're right, I apoligize if I am discrediting NL. They are phenomenal and I've been a huge fan of that band. They were the first band I ever saw that left me in awe my first year in marching band. I don't mean to be rude towards them. I haven't singled them out though if you look at all my posts. I attempt to be as fair as possible on here.

VanAlstyne was dropped an absurd amount. That alone should tell you the inconsistency of the judges. I'm so happy we made it to state and get to show everyone what a small town like us is capable of doing and that we can compete against bands like Panther creek and Celina. But being a student who marches like many others on here, it sucks more seeing other bands discredited or misjudged. Either way, it's even harder when so many people unanimously agree

VA dropped from 7th to 9th. That’s not an absurd amount at a contest like this. I had them ranked 11th or 12th in finals in my head. I did not think it was their best run.

Unless those people “unanimously agreeing” are a panel of UIL judges who have been through the training then you need to disregard what they are saying. I recommend reading up on the scoring guidelines and maybe you will understand how it works.

These are just videos I found for comparison since I know some people couldn't be there and they are just seeing what looks like arguing all over the place. Same competition, same day. I couldn't find van alstyne or bridge city unfortunately, and sulphur and Celina are both understandably top 2 so no use for those. If you find videos of the other state qualifiers please share 🙏. I'd love to watch lumberton's finals run since I missed it and their kids were a blast to be with before retreat.

Also, the video of North Lamar isn't the best, so if anyone had a better one please share if possible 🙏. I'd love to get a closer better angle of them but I can't find any.

The user who posted this one below has most of the finalists (except Lumberton finals round which is currently nowhere to be found).

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been looking for a Celina video for weeks showing the entire show. I’m in awe of their precision. So many challenging movements and all so closely in sync. It’s incredible.

Saturday was a blur. I’m going to watch the others later. I still feel like the judging here was pretty spot on. I am a little sad I won’t get to see the Paris accordion player again. So charming!

Of course not to mention at State there are two completely different sets of judges. One group judges the prelims then gets sent home and a new fresh group of judges comes in and does the finals without seeing the teams during prelims.

Is it 100% new judges for finals round? If it's a 7 judge panel, only 11 judges are listed.

Celina- Attention to detail for sure. If they lean or step out, the body & leg angles are the same.

We wanted to know if the accordion player already knew how to play?

I was told she taught herself! I had a sweet parent group from Paris behind me. They said she learned over the summer.

That’s cool! I feel like self teaching the accordion, (or just any instrument), takes a lot of time, but to do it over the summer? That is an amazing skill 🤩

This was one of my favorite shows at area! Very sad for Paris but they should be proud of their show.

Did any Area C bands advance to finals?

Hey! Now your question was able to come into effect earlier this week..... Celina, Sulphur Springs, & North Lamar advanced while Pleasant Grove finished 12th, Farmersville finished 13th, Bridge City finished 16th, & Lumberton finished 17th.

I'd say that is still pretty good for Area C to be in the top 17. Only Area that beat us was Area B. 3/4 bands there made finals except for Aubrey who finished 14th.

Interesting to learn that the PV show was an old Van Alstyne show

Holy crap pleasant grove! I knew they had a good run but I had no idea they would be over Farmersville. I knew their prelims run was clean but I did not expect that. I was so happy for the PC kids (but I know the Farmersville kids wee disappointed )☹️

I watched Gatesville’s prelims run and knew something special was happening. The balance, the theme, the music. It was so good! I was over the moon for the area b bands!
