  1. Sulphur Springs, Lumberton, and Canyon back-to-back-to-back were all strong. Canyon has to be a lock for finals, but could see all three making a push for a top ten placement.
  2. Yes, A&M Consolidated and College Station HS from College Station ISD both made it to state in 5A. The third HS in CSISD, College View, doesn't have a marching band.
  3. I was surprised by how much I loved Sachse’s show.
  4. After watching most of the bands (mostly online), my prediction is Sulphur Springs, Lumberton, Bridge City, North Lamar, and Paris as well. It feels like there is a pretty big drop off after the top four and Paris and then a really steep drop off to the remaining bands. Barring something strange happening in a performance, I would be pretty shocked if it isn't the five I listed advancing to state from Area C.
  5. https://www.smbc.uiltexas.org/area/results/files/area-22_4A Area C.pdf Full results. 2-4 were very close. In the finals, 2 of the 5 had Lumberton as 1st, but one judge didn’t seem to care for their show, which dragged them all the way down to 4th.
  6. I thought this might be the year someone was able to knock off North Lamar, but they keep their strangle hold on Area C.
  7. 1. North Lamar 2. Sulphur Springs 3. Paris 4. Lumberton 5. Bridge City All if these bands advanced to state.
  8. That is good to hear! I felt like Lumberton was a good ending away from being a serious state finalist contender. If you see a video of the new performance, please share!
  9. Watching the performances last weekend, I wasn’t that impressed with LCM. I thought Bridge City had a really good sound. Lumberton sounded incredible.
  10. In looking at some pictures from their Facebook, it looks like they have closer to 140-150.
  11. That rapid of a decline in numbers usually indicates some major issues, maybe with the lower grade band programs.
  12. How many kids are in the band now? Looks much smaller than past years. That’s crazy that they lost that many directors at one time. Hopefully they can recover, they were on the verge of becoming one of the best band programs in 4A in the state.
  13. Lumberton has been at state 4 of the last 5 years (due to a classification change). Is there any other band that has done that or are they the only one?
  14. I was wondering the same thing. It’s always tough for a band that finishes top 5 in prelims and then misses the state cut in finals. Four of the five finalists were also top five in prelims.
  15. I deleted my post that quoted what appear to be false rumors quoted on here. Lumberton is one of my favorite bands to watch in 4A as they usually pick entertaining music and play it dang well. The Watermelon Sugar part of their show yesterday was the best sound at Area in my opinion. I hope they make finals at state this year. I hope they are able to build their guard back up to the size and quality it was pre covid years. Also, with the enrollment numbers Lumberton reported on Friday, they should remain in 4A and continue to be one of, if not the largest 4A, in the state. They are positioning themselves to be a top 5 band program in 4A if they stay on their trajectory.
