2022 6A UIL State
itsstephenyo replied to BandFan59's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
For sure, I'm not saying Hebron is beating out SCV, Bluecoats, BD, etc, but they might be pushing top 10/top15 corps in terms of music. Hebron's music book this year is so ridiculously hard. I remember going to DCI Denton this year and thinking, "Man, Penstriped was harder on the brass than this..." -

Visually, no band matches a drum corp, of course. The top corps are just too clean visually. Musically, though, Hebron really does have an argument for beating out some corps. They're pumping out harder music, just as cleanly as some corps. -

Can someone remind me if prelims results are announced after prelims are over? Or do they just announce finalists? -

Interesting, I thought the opposite. Bit of a rougher run than even their Super Regionals prelims performance. -

Agreed, top to bottom, SASR and SMBC are at least GN Semis difficulty. With regard to the top level bands, you can find equivalents in TX. Hebron, Woodlands, Reagan, FloMo, CTJ occupy the same top spots that BA, Carmel, Avon, Tarpon, etc occupy. When you apply that logic, and then factor in that many bands miss Finals in SA, only to comfortably make GN Finals a week later, you can absolutely say that SASR/SMBC = GN. -

How crowded does 6A state finals usually get? Curious how early we need to get there to get some good seats. -
Um, holy crap Hebron is going to Nats? Looks like I'll also be flying up to Indianapolis in November! I've always wanted to go and what better time to go than when my alma mater makes its first Nats appearance!

Heard from some Marcus parents that Hebron is supposed to go to Nats next year. Apparently LISD has approved this every other year thing between Hebron and Marcus (holy crap I wonder how Flo Mo fits in now?!?!?) to finance the bands to go to Nats. Next year is apparently Hebron's year! Oh, man, I'm crossing my fingers. -

So is it about that time we start analyzing prelims results and how they're completely whacked out? CTJ with a 28th in visual, Hebron with a 12th and 2 1s (lol this one is the funniest to me, btw. One judge was just not having it), Dawson with a 25/2 in visual, Harlingen with 29/4, Pearland with 27/21/6 in music, TW with 11/3 in music... etc Here we go again! -

I got to see the ordinals from finals. Here are some highlights: -Marcus was first with 7 pts, swept 1s in visual. -Hebron got two 1s in music, 2s in visual. -Bell, Haltom and... Crap I forgot 6th place were separated by like 1 pt each. -Bell had a 9 in either visual or music, forgot which. Incredibly tight competition tonihjt! -
Didn't see a thread for this competition but it looks like it could be an absolute bloodbath for State spots. Anyone got a full list of participants and what time finals starts?

2013 BOA Grand Nationals

That WAS very cool. When it got to the top 5, I did a quick recap and figured, "Holy heck! RR is gonna be top 5!" Man, this was an awesome year for marching band. -
2013 BOA Grand Nationals

Wow, this is just about the best outcome Texas could have hoped for with respect to the Grand Nats Finals. It kinda solidifies our spot in the hierarchy of the band world. We pretty much showed the rest of the nation that the Grand Nationals needs to be moved around to different places, although I'm sure Music for All have their contracts with Lucas Oil Stadium. Seriously, though, how much talent is missed at every GN because of location? This also doesn't include all the fantastic Florida and California bands. Tarpon Springs? Etiwanda? I found it impressive that Ayala also made finals as one of the few California bands there. Either way, super proud year for Texas bands! I can't wait til Hebron announces that they're going to Nats. I'm definitely booking tickets and hotel rooms early if they ever say that they'll go! -
Anyone got any DCI mp3s they'd be willing to share? Mainly looking for the major corps over the past 2-3 years. Anything would be appreciated!

2013 BOA San Antonio Super Regional
itsstephenyo replied to Rubisco's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
So I wasn't there, but how did Vandegrift improve upon their music score that much? Was their finals performance really that much better? From 17.2 overall to 18.85... That's a pretty significant jump in overall music score. They went from very average music scores in prelims to stellar scores in finals. Seems like a lot of that was happening all around, really. Marcus went from 18.6 to 17.35, so a great music score in prelims to an average score in finals. Definitely some odd scoring. I think it's safe to say, though, that this has been one of the most competitive BOA competitions in recent history. Just a 6ish point spread from 1st to 14th. BOA seriously needs to move Grand Nats around. The top 4 Texas bands could easily insert themselves into the top 10 at Grand Nats.- 230 replies

2013 BOA San Antonio Super Regional

I'm so angry with myself for missing this competition. I decided not to go at the last minute AND I'M PULLING MY SHORT SPIKY ASIAN HAIR OUT BECAUSE OF IT. Maybe if I went, I could have influenced another .1 for Hebron! This was a nailbiter for sure. So proud to see Hebron up there. I remember when we shouted for joy just for making finals at BOA events and now they're winning and placing at easily the hardest regional in the nation. SO COOL- 230 replies

2013 BOA San Antonio Super Regional

That's very true. Owasso and Marion are incredibly good bands and that was a pretty well contested top 5 at that regional up there. That's why it's great that other bands from out of state come down to Texas!- 230 replies

lol "ridiculous" probably isn't the best way to describe how none of the judges thought Westwood was the best band at the competition... -

I remember the kids from Owasso HS in Oklahoma were some of the most genuinely nice band people I've ever met. We got to talk to them extensively in the tunnel before finals retreat and it was a real pleasure.
