BAND CAMP!!!
Fata1 replied to barisaxy08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Our camp started on Tuesday. We had a motivational speaker come talk to us. His name is Scott Lang. I'm pretty sure he also talks to some really good bands like Broken Arrow. Anyway, he was good. Then, on Wednesday through Friday, we were finishing up with fundamentals. Each section was out on the parking lot teaching the freshman while upperclassmen got to review. It also gave the officers to put in some leadership practice before we really get moving. The real fun begins this Monday for us. We start learning drill. -

I'm curious as to what our scores were. I probably won't find out until our band camp starts on Tuesday though. -

Wow. I think we did pretty good for the first time. Congrats to Poteet and Centennial for beating us and congrats to all the other bands that made it. -
Nah, he's probably been picking up chicks in preschool already with his trumpet skills.

It just got through raining at my house. It best not rain tomorrow. I'm supposed to go to a water park with some friends.

4A UIL state
Fata1 replied to the terminator's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I'm not sure who's going to win state this year but hopefully our school can make it to state. It would be our first time to go to state during marching season. We missed it by one last time. -

Favorite Concert Band Pieces
Fata1 replied to TRtrumpet's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
My favorite two pieces that I've played are Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar and Symphonic Movement by Vaclav Nelhybel. Enigma was just amazing and Symphonic Movement was a lot of fun to play. I only just finished my freshman year so both of those pieces were what we played last year in Wind Ensemble. I still have 3 years of high school left so I'm sure my list will grow. -

I'm in Alabama right now so my friend had to give me the news over cell phone. I don't think Southwest has ever even gotten through to Area let alone get first. It's great for us. We're finally making something of ourselves. -
BAND CAMP!!!
Fata1 replied to barisaxy08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ours started on May 30th but it was only three days. We didn't use instruments or anything. We were just teaching freshman marching basics while the upperclassmen refreshed their memory. On July 31st, our school is having a guy named Scott Lang come to talk to us about leadership and motivation. After that, we have about 4 weeks of marching band throughout August in which we'll be learning drill with instruments and everything. -
We just finished or first session of summer band and things are going pretty good. We only got one new freshman for the French Horn section which brings our total up to an amazing six. Anyway, our new freshman makes me want to shoot myself. Shes so lazy and she thinks everything should go her way. On top of that, she's not very good. Everything else seems to be going great though. The rest of our section is really strong as is most of the entire band. We're getting new uniforms and our music is really cool. To add to the hype, it's a state year for us since we're 4A. This year is going to be really fun.

Show Music
Fata1 replied to ClarinetGlissandoInBlue's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Thanks. I'm sure I'll enjoy playing Trittico. We played Symphonic Movement this year in Wind Ensemble and it was great. We played it pretty well too. I don't expect anything less from Trittico. This marching season is going to be great for us. The songs we're doing are far better than anything we've done before, we're having people who actually know what they're doing write our drill, we're getting new uniforms, and it's a state year for us. I can't wait. -

I'm pretty sure our school is doing Trittico by Nelhybel and Sleep by Whitacre. That's all our director has told us about so far. Also, if anyone knows where I could hear both of these songs, it would be much appreciated. -
What do you do in band...
Fata1 replied to barisaxy08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We just finished recording our last two songs for state but the march still didn't do well. We won't know until Monday if we're going to keep trying for a good recording on the march or if we're going to go straight onto the Spring concert and next year's marching music. -
What did everyone get in UIL?
Fata1 replied to bored2damax's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I think I heard my band director say that sub-non-varsity reads the same as non-varsity. I may have misunderstood though. -
Our band (Southwest from Fort Worth) did and still does but it's getting a lot better. I think people are putting in more effort because we're tired of missing things by one. We missed going to State last year by one and we missed DMI Finals by one. It kind of gets annoying after a while.

Fata1 replied to bored2damax's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I think it depends on whether you're 4A, 5A, etc. and whether you're varsity or non-varsity. Anyway, both bands at Southwest High School from Fort Worth got sweepstakes. The Wind Ensemble is still working on recordings to send in for State. The 4A Varsity sightreading piece was easy. -

All-State process
Fata1 replied to smoke_dawg_08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Our school did well at Area competitions. Well, we did well by our standard. We had 12 advance to Area and out of those 12, I know two trumpets and a sax made state. One of our freshman trumpets missed state by one. Our bass trombone recorded himself and sent it on and I'm not sure of his results yet. Our freshman bari-sax made state, I think. Anyway, I go to Southwest High School. It's a 4A. -
Wasn't Brian Youngblood the only judge at DMI to rank a 4A (Poteet) first? Anyway, great job to all the bands at State. They obviously worked hard to get there. I'm sure there are bands that didn't make State that worked just as hard as well.

Bell's New Touch for Finals
Fata1 replied to Amusicman's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I really enjoy surprise show endings. I remember being at the Duncanville Marching Invitational this year and since my band performed early, we got to stay and watch most of the others perform. The band with my favorite ending was Summit High School. I looked a way for a second and when I looked back, the field was covered with dots (their show theme was "Spotlights"). It was great and I'm sure L.D. Bell's was much better. I have to see it.
