UIL 6A Area B 2023
BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I think Boswell is having one of their best seasons yet, I have them a choice for finals. But I know a few other bands are also contenders such as Fossil Ridge, Haltom, Pearce, and Highland Park. I've noticed a real step up in band programs this year, and this is probably going to be the most stacked area B we've had in a long time. -

I was wondering who made the predictions page for this contest because there's a few bands missing in this such ad Grand Prairie, MacArthur, Nimitz, North Crowley, and Richardson. Yeah ik these bands probably won't make finals, but it would still be cool to see where they stand in the aggregate predictions. -

Well, sadly Naaman Forest got a 2, so they will not be performing at area. Hopefully the other bands will advance so we can still have 12 finalists and 6 state advancers -

Yeah I'm sorry I made a mistake. I don't really know a whole lot about the bottom half area F bands since my band doesn't compete in this area. -

Well, it's official. All 5 Region 31 bands received 1's and advanced to area. In hopes that they fix the Crowley issue, we will have 7 state advancers. -

Well, here goes my predictions for probably the hardest area in the state. Like seriously they really should realign this area on the next biannual cycle. But anyways here we go: 1. Hebron 2. Marcus 3. Flower Mound 4. Prosper 5. Mckinney Boyd 6. Wylie 7. Wylie East 8. Rock Hill 9. Lewisville 10. Braswell 11. Mckinney High 12. Plano East 13. Rockwall 14. Heath 15. Sachse 16. Allen 17. Plano Sr. 18. Byron Nelson 19. Eaton 20. Royse City 21. Plano West 22. Lakeview Centennial 23. North Forney 24. John Horn 25. Little Elm 26. Guyer 27. North Garland 28. Garland 29. Rowlett 30. Mesquite 31. Tyler Legacy 32. Naaman Forest Well there ya have it, my rough predictions for this entire area, and I wouldn't be surprised if I got every single wrong (the only one I probably got right is Hebron). IMO the top 10 have state potential and the top 19 have finals potential. There's so many good bands it's almost impossible to make accurate predictions here. Atp I'm just ready to accept the criticism... -

TMF has now fixed the error. Crowley is now listed as 6A, so maybe they'll also add Crowley to the official schedule, now that this issued has been fixed. -

BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Idk, maybe Crowley decided to opt out, but I'm pretty sure it's not about how many varsity bands "attend the contest" but rather about how many "qualified". So idk, but I really hope we will still send 7 bands to state. -

BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
There was an error. Crowley is a 6A school but is listed as a 5A school. They are also on the Area B 6A draw. I know, that's been getting everyone on here. -
UIL 5A Area F 2023
BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
There's currently 17 bands that qualified for area, but there's only 7 bands from Region 31, so we'll have 24 bands at this area, so unfortunately we'll only have 4 bands advance once again considering all bands get 1's tomorrow. If only just one more band from Region 5 advanced... -

Yeah, after seeing CH perform on Saturday, I think they will make state, but I do realize that Richland and Azle could get in their way. -

For the most part, I agree with you. Just confused why you had Dville over SLC, given that they gota lower placement at BOA Prosper than anyone expected (maybe their show is more of a UIL show bit idk), and have Lake Ridge over Berkner given that Berkner has beaten LR twice this season at Mansfield POC and BOA Prosper. But overall, good predictions. -

Definitely saw some interesting results with BOA Prosper today. For the 2nd time in a row competing in the same comp, Timber Creek beats Keller and Bell is now over them. One band not to sleep on this year is definitely going to be Keller Central, as they managed to get past Keller. Waxahachie ended up losing to TC, Bell, and KC, but still managed to beat Keller. Keller definitely has some work to do if they want to make state, and while I still believe they can, getting into state finals is going to be a challenge. Duncanville is in a rough spot right now after losing to Berkner and Lake Ridge, so state might be out of the question for Dville. 24th-26th place just so happens to be all area B bands, Lake Highlands, Fossil Ridge, and Highland Park. I predict that will be the placement order for these three bands as well at area. -

Are you sure? According to their calendar they'll be attending Area, unless they try to do both in one day. I've seen programs do this before (Boswell did it in 2021). -

Good to know. Just unfortunate that the FWISD band kids don't get to experience what "true competition" is. The only other two bands that I know of that go to competitions are Arlington Heights and Southwest, and even then, they either don't make finals or place low (like 9th-10th place). Support for these programs can really go a long way. -

BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I think it's mostly due to poor funding. FWISD isn't really a great district for music education, as most bands don't advance to area. Most of these bands can't afford props, brand new uniforms, or even a semi truck. I feel like they throw all of their money to PHS because of the fact that they are 6A, while the other programs are left and abandoned. I've seen Paschal's show and it almost looks like a BOA show with the props and guard uniforms, and the style of music. What do the other bands get? Almost nothing. They don't even have a semi truck (Paschal is the only one that does), and the other programs just use another school bus to store equipment. Really wished the other programs had the support Paschal has, otherwize they might start doing better. -

Another thing I will say. About Brewer, last year was honestly a fluke for them in area finals. They got 8th in prelims but then for some reason moved all the way up to 4th in finals, beating out Azle, Midlothian, and Birdville, something I would've never imagined. -

BandNerd07 replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Yeah, I didn't think about that. I didn't get to see their exibition performance, so my predictions might be off. But reallistically, I would have them in the top 3. Aledo and BC are for sure locks, and it's up for grabs between Richland, CH, and Azle. Really wished this area could send more bands to state as stacked as it is. Unfortunately, too many bands from Region 5 did not advance, so we will once again only see 4 bands advance. -

After the Birdville Marching Festival, here are my final predictions for this area: * means they competed at Birdville. Richland and Birdville will not be included since they were exhibition and didn't "compete". 1. Burleson Centennial* 2. Aledo* 3. Colleyville Heritage* 4. Azle 5. Richland 6. Midlothian 7. Birdville 8. Burleson* 9. Brewer* 10. Summit*/Timberview* -

Okay, so I know that this area isn't that deep as the other areas, but here's my top three and going to state: Forney North Mesquite Poteet- 109 replies

Moving on to other bands, BC beat Aledo in prelims, so they have an opportunity to win this comp and possibly win area in a few weeks. Timberview might be hungry for an area finals spot after seeing how they did today, after beating Cleburne and Joshua. Was also surprised that North Mesquite didn't make finals. I think all of the other placements met my expectations.
