Many bands use shotgun mics and have been for a long time. It's mainly for projecting their woodwinds during woodwind features and aren't used throughout their show.

Everyone say it with me, bands can have different performances between prelims and finals. Bands can also have different levels of improvement between contests. You are not guaranteed anything based on your past performances, and it would be stupid if you were. If you cannot comprehend basics about marching band, you should not be complaining. There a thousand different factors to a performance, and everyone needs be on top of their game as in districts like this only your best performance can get you in.

I forgot Viacom also owned The Big Bang Theory. Turns out Sheldon Cooper was a spy for them. I heard Viacom intends on sending a cease-and-desist letter to txbands.com tonight.

Yeah, at least that's what I've heard, but we can only hope they don't ever again, especially after the feedback they get. And if for some reason they do, let's up the production and quality is like Flo or Box5

At the very least,  “The” UIL and NFHS should issue an apology to the programs that had their livestreams compromised.

A very good draw for Marcus, with UIL being their domain things are looking up for this program. Hebron is looking to close the night off unless there's a surprise result, which is possible. Vista Ridge with a solid draw, but Westlake with an even better one should they push into finals.

They must have seen how many views Box5 was getting on the results streams alone and figured that they could profit a lot from the contests.
I hope they never do this again. State finals videos are usually the best videos out there, but this year is the exception.

Apparently NFHS has first rights to streaming UIL events and for some unknown reason they decided to give it a go this year... hopefully never again.

    Final block of the day!
Vandegrift: That opening hit. Vandy has some of my favorite musical selections this year - everything ties together so well. There are so many performers on that field and yet, the drill is stupid clean. The brass book is so hard, but they execute it to near perfection. The guard work in the ballad is mesmerizing. They are RUNNING in the closer. Dare I say, best performance of the day? Regardless, this show is absolutely worthy of a medal, I only wish there were more than three.
Round Rock: That backfield opening is just gorgeous. They very quickly demonstrate so many musical skills with their technique, volume, and ensemble sound. Not to mention that they look great on the field. The way they use Rite of Spring is so great. They march and play so well, I could see them placing really high tomorrow night.
Marcus: The soloists do such a great job at the beginning. The way the ensemble is able to maintain their sonic structure regardless of dynamic is what's given them so much success. They may not play as loud as other bands, but they will play and march as well as the best bands in the state. The drumline is rocking out, and the winds handle their individual responsibilities really well. You know what you're going to get from Marcus every year, and it never disappoints.
Mckinney-Boyd: Wow! They can pump out some noise. They are able to demonstrate some nice dynamic control in the ballad. They are really good at putting out that sound even on the move. And they are moving quick too in the closer. A really great performance!
Dripping Springs: I love the music in the opening. The mellophones play their book so well. I absolutely love the tarp changes, it just reminds me of how colorful the entire field design is for them. They have been solid in every performance I've seen from them - a very consistent band!
Cy-Fair: I love the costume effects. Nice technical passages from brass and woodwinds. I really dig all the ways the props and costumes make the band "vanish". The Hide and Seek rendition is nice as well, with some beautiful guard work. YEAH TRUMPET. I love seeing teachers get hyped for something like that. A really fun show and a super solid run!
Permian: Yes! A killer mellophone solo followed by an out of nowhere ensemble hit is how you start a show! The whole band plays with such great technique. They also make some beautiful sounds. Overall a very accessible program that plays to their strengths. The drill is super duper clean! Great performance all around. Could we see them again tomorrow night?
Dawson: They have some great musical selections. The guard is super solid, and running all over the field! The closer is excellent in every facet, and the band brings a great energy to the entire performance.
Clear Brook: Tbh I could barely hear the band because of the stream audio - I'm not sure if it was the pit's electronics that are turned up so high or the microphones. The soloists sound good and the band moves well, I just wish I could hear them.
Congratulations to all bands who performed today! Top to bottom, this is maybe the best state marching contest I've had the chance to watch. I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store!

I don’t believe there is a top-half/bottom-half split for UIL. You just perform based on the order of that sheet if you make finals.
