  1. QUOTE (MartinHorn @ Jun 6 2006, 12:52 PM) Can a drummer explain to me the difference between playing on a tilted drum as opposed to playing on a non tilted one. It dates back to history where marching bands and drum corps used to tilt their snares. In addition, it makes more sense if the drum is tilted if you're using the traditional grip.
  2. Episode 7 features Memorial Day camp footage, a discussion with new color guard staff, and show clips from Blue Devils "B" and Blue Devils "A". The A corps is the last one on the video. http://www.bluedevils.org/blueview/ Man, Godfather is going to ROCK.
  3. SCV has posted a sneak preview of their 2006 show, "Moto Perpetuo". From SCVanguard.org: 2006 Santa Clara Vanguard Season Preview ---- My thoughts--- I'm glad to see things are back on track with the Vanguard. New drums, new uniforms (the green pants are back!)....I can't wait to see the corps in action. Really looking forward to the show as well....LOVIN' the intro. Enjoy!
  4. QUOTE (mnkyman @ Jun 3 2006, 09:16 PM) does that mean there be a cool scat/percussion break? Nope, no drum speak this year. Thank goodness.
  5. You can now download and listen to portions of The Cadets 2006 show. The recording was taken from their Memorial Day performance. Click for more info... (White Rabbit, The Garden, Jubilee Games are all part of the '06 program.) --------- I was a little skeptical about The Cadets doing a sequel to their 2005 show. However, after listening to the music....I absolutely LOVE it. It's more fan friendly from a musical standpoint than last year's show. And, I really dig this year's snippet of the 'Twilight Zone'. Thoughts??
  6. QUOTE (Keyboard_Countessa @ Jun 1 2006, 01:06 PM) The best part for me was afterwards when my family threw a surprise party for me, complete with out-of-state relatives and a catered lunch from Olive Garden. Definitely memorable. Can I join the family?? I'm up for some Italian.
  7. I hope Roger and the Astros seal the deal. It's great seeing him pitch in his hometown of Houston. And, on a sidenote..... I can't believe people watch ESPN in the first place. What a horrible network. I like to call ESPN the "LeBonds" channel.
  8. Mark Chandler of Arlington ISD got the Fine Arts Director position at Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD.
  9. QUOTE (itsstephenyo @ May 21 2006, 02:53 PM) I don't know... I find myself liking Whitacre's music less and less. At first I loved October. Loved Waternight. Now I'm beginning to just get bored with everything he writes. Lux Arumque isn't much different either. I recommend his electronic opera, Paradise Lost. If Paradise Lost ever does a tour in Texas...I'm going to be all over it.
  10. The Visual caption is more than just "cool drill"....it's about being able to execute it indivually and as an ensemble. The funny thing with people mentioning the Cavaliers is that they haven't won the Visual award since 2002.
  11. I'm going to agree with what was said earlier.... The Woodlands Although, they've placed second a couple of times. 2001 BOA Houston: 2nd Place 2004 BOA Hunstville: 2nd Place In my opinion, their drill design has always held them back. The music/visual performance and colorguard were all there. They just needed that extra "umph" to push them over the top. Hopefully their new drill designer for the 2006 season will help them out with that.
  12. I've raved about Lux Aurumque numerous times and I'm going to do it again. The piece puts me in an undescribeable state of emotion. It is truly unreal. Love it so much that I even bought the symphonic score. Some tidbits on Lux Aurumque while we're at it.. If you haven't checked out the following links, I highly recommend it. *L.D. Bell HS performed the piece as their closer in 2005. (Link) *The climax of the symphonic version is from the grand 'Bliss' theme from Eric Whitacre's electronic opera "Paradise Lost". (Visit http://www.paradiselosttheopera.com/intro.html, click on movies and go to Episode 1, "One Angel") You can also see some of the ideas that the L.D. Bell colorguard used in 2005 from Paradise Lost. Eric Whitacre is truly outdoing himself in the choir, band and opera world. Can't wait until the 'Paradise Lost' CD/DVD comes out!
  13. No, it won't be the end of the Phantom Regiment. Certainly not old news though. This was made public late last year.
  14. Definitely, Eric Whitacre. I am constantly connected to his music on an emotional level moreso than Frank Ticheli.
  15. QUOTE (MartinHorn @ May 15 2006, 06:15 PM) I think the original topic was about Phantom Regiment. Haha, I was thinking the same thing.
  16. Mark Cuban probably offered him some money.
  17. I love the Reagan 2001 guard uniforms! Very Cirque du Soleil'ish, of course.
  18. As promised, the May 2006 editon of 'SotM' is now up in the TXBands Blog. Click to view --Michael
  19. QUOTE (Montoya @ May 13 2006, 07:19 PM) If you're a fan of Eric, be on the lookout for a CD release of his opera electronica, PARADISE LOST. I had the pleasure of seeing the latest musical revision in Chicago this past February, and it is going splendidly! For more info on Eric and/or Paradise Lost, go to Eric Whitacre Oh my god. Paradise Lost will be priority #1 on my must have CD list.
  20. QUOTE (Xenon @ May 12 2006, 01:48 PM) Everything always goes back to food for you doesn't it? We've got to hit up all the nice restaurants in Indianapolis in November.
  21. QUOTE (Danpod @ May 12 2006, 10:33 AM)Mike's just bitter because they don't serve Asian people at his local McDonald's Mike's just bitter because they don't serve Asian people at his local McDonald's Jack In the Box (For obvious reasons. )
  22. 50 for $3.99 That cheap?? Shoot, I might even by me some if I had to.
  23. Chili Dog!
  24. QUOTE (sax5warrior @ May 11 2006, 10:05 PM) The McDonalds is crappy and have VERY small "Big" Macs. Unfortunately, all McDonald's make their Big Mac's like that now. I just call them Small Mac. I can down the entire thing in less than five bites. I have to order an extra sandwich in order to feel full.
  25. QUOTE (Danpod @ May 10 2006, 03:48 PM) Southwind will need a full hornline to make this sound well. This sounds a lot like their 2005 show and it wasn't exactly the best sound on the field. Guidry's stuff is a little hard for me to swallow in terms of a Drum Corps setting. Aaron Guidry has never arranged for Southwind. Steve Vento, Broken Arrow Director, is their music arranger.
