BOA News Release!!!
mbui replied to euro_euph06's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
QUOTE (mnkyman @ Mar 31 2006, 10:11 PM)is that why they have been delayed? Not really. The 2005 DVD situation had to do with synchronization (synch) licenses. The license needed to videotape the performance of a copyrighted song. There were two issues.... One...BOA and Mr. Video had to wait until final approval was given from third party copyright holders from outside the country. We all know how complicated it is to make a simple international phone call. Imagine having to track down a copyright holder in a foreign land. Must be an excruciating task. The other had to do with getting a synch license from a major motion picture. Here's a link to the press release from Scott McCormick, President & CEO of Bands of America. http://www.bands.org/public/events/gn/05.dvd.orders.asp -
BOA News Release!!!
mbui replied to euro_euph06's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Hopefully this is the step in the right direction on getting the old Band of America videos & DVD's back. Either 800VideoExpress open back up or BOA will release the tapes to Mr. Video, BOA's current videographer. It would be devastating for the marching band activity if 29 years worth of marching band were gone forever. I still have to order several Regional & Grand National stuff. -
QUOTE (Dynasty @ Mar 30 2006, 08:23 AM) and 100 physical dollars from WGI Austin. And don't you go buying another bucket of Chicken Nuggets....

QUOTE (bariphonium @ Mar 29 2006, 01:07 PM)I have a more specific question, though: where was SFA during the 90's? Stephen F. Austin HS in Sugar Land opened up in 1995. They were a decent band back then. Made UIL Area and placed in the teens at BOA Regionals. Although, they did advance to Finals a couple of times. I believe it was 4th at the 1996 Houston Regional and 3rd at the 1999 San Antonio Regional. The new millennium started a new era for the Stephen F. Austin Band Program. Dean Westman, former Santa Clara Vanguard Music Arranger and current Bands of America Educational Director, took over as head director at Stephen F. Austin in 2000. The year after that, that's when the band started to get really really good. In 2001, the design team of Jim Casella, Mitch Rogers, Gordon Henderson, Don Hill & Ralph Hardimon came in and the band break out year with their 'Metropolis Symphony' show. 2002 was a banner year for the band. SFA won their first ever BOA Regional (Huntsville) and went on to place 5th in Finals at their first trip at BOA Grand Nationals. And the rest is history....

QUOTE (GCS-Euph @ Mar 27 2006, 07:12 PM) Gulf Coast Sound will be at the Houston showing again this year at the Marq-E theater on I-10. Stop by and say hey. We will be out front handing out flyers, etc. Mark, a couple of friends and I will be there. We'll be sure to stop by and say hello! Also, I believe DrumCorpsTexas is going to have a booth set-up at the theatre. Gotta stop by there too. I haven't seen those guys in a while.

Drum Corps Repertoire (Div. 1)
mbui replied to euro_euph06's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I am REALLY excited about the Seattle Cascades show. Not only do I love Bela Bartok's Second String Quartet but Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque is my favorite piece, ever. After what L.D Bell did with it this past year....it gives me tears every time I hear it. No joke. Looking forward to seeing the Cascades at the Southwestern Regional! -
I hope that's not the case. the title "The Zone-Part Deux" just doesn't have that "umph."
-
DEFINITELY worth going to. I went to last year's showing in Houston and it was incredible. Nothing beats drum corps on the big screen, except for seeing it live. I can't wait!

Nexts years state year
mbui replied to whitewing09's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
When marching season rolls around, check out the practice schedule of Plymouth Canton Educational Park of Michigan. They practice a lot! Also, I can't remember which year it was, 2001 or 2002, but the band held a rehearsal AFTER their State Championships. Really... It's not how much you practice. It's how you use it. -
QUOTE (Aegis Fang @ Mar 23 2006, 06:18 PM) 9th in music is crap... oh well. where'd you get that score from though? Go to DCI's website at http://www.dci.org There, you can find scores from the 2005 Championships.

QUOTE (bluebellbrass07 @ Mar 22 2006, 03:27 PM) I think they dropped out so they could have more practice time for Grand nationals in 03. darn 8 hour rule.... Westfield withdrew from UIL after the 2002 season due to a difference of opinion with the organization. -
QUOTE (mnkyman @ Mar 22 2006, 10:39 PM) john b connaly...who is that? John B. Connally HS is located in Pflugerville, TX (Austin area). They are a 4A school and were Finalists at the 2003 & 2005 State Marching Band Championships and at the 2004 Bands of America Huntsville, TX Regional Championships.

QUOTE (bluebellbrass07 @ Mar 22 2006, 02:46 PM) Reagan had props??? The props acted more like a frame around the field. Wasn't a distraction at all.

I'm digging the music. It has a minimalism feel to it. Can't wait to see the product on the field! 2006 is the beginning of a new era for the Santa Clara Vanguard organization.

QUOTE (Aegis Fang @ Mar 22 2006, 07:06 PM) I liked SCV's music from 2005... why'd they score so low? Their visual design killed them. I don't know what was up with Myron Rosander last summer. The design was very uncharateristic of him. Check out some old Vanguard shows from 1987, 1988, 1989, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 & 2004. Those are some of the best show designs that SCV & Myron had to offer.

subconcious suggestions
mbui replied to actualgirltrombone's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
It's a good thing the Cedar Park Fire Marshall didn't expect the Vista Ridge campus during WGI Austin. Wires everywhere (Especially, my desktop. It was annoying the heck out of me! That's why I took it out.) Food and beverages everywhere. Surge protector overload. Kind of. He would've shut us down ASAP!
