mbui replied to Xenon's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Midwest doesn't have it on their website... But, if anyone has a recording of Duncanville performing Eric Whitacre's 'Lux Aurumque', please hit me up with an email. -
Bands of America has released the list of bands that have sent in their registration forms for the 2006 season. Remember, this list is subject to change. It does not a guarantee that a band will perform at the competition. (As of May 10, 2006) Click here to view Regional & Grand National lists.

Like Travis said earlier, some people.... Just want to download media Participate in predictions Or, band directors/staff members registering an account to keep tabs on their students The 1,000+ members on the TXBands.com Network are already helping us out by using our other services. Forcing people to post on the forums just isn't the right thing to do.

Just wondering...
mbui replied to Fortisimo's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
It's not the full version, but....Pyware has a demo version of 3D Java available on their website. http://www.pyware.com/ Go to 'Demos' It's probably the most popular drill design program out there. Several big name people in the marching activity use it. Hope that helped. -
QUOTE (supermanuel @ Dec 19 2005, 01:57 PM) Alright, I'll share. If you ever happen to be in the Clute/Lake Jackson area drop by and we'll watc, as long as i'm not busy(good luck with that) I live 15 minutes from you Manuel....

show of the week
mbui replied to thesnareguy's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
Thanks for the suggestion. Having several shows per week is tough to do but no worries. I am open for any high school marching band show from Texas regardless of class. Michael -
reagans 2005 music
mbui replied to bacara's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
QUOTE (Skippy @ Dec 14 2005, 11:57 PM) Yeah, you're right. Creative arranging is something that needs to stop, becaue I really love seeing the same shows over and over again. Agreed with you and Kinsey. Which reminds me.... The Glassmen performed a modern arrangement of Dvorak's 'New World Symphony' this past year. And, Westfield HS performed a ROCK and RAP rendition of Hindemith's 'Symphonic Metamorphosis' in 2002. IMO, it was still 'Symphonic Metamorphosis' and 'New World Symphony' to me be it rock, rap, classical, country, techno and etc.... -
Ronald Reagan was the best band in Texas this year. There's no question about that. Average margin of victory at Texas BOA Regionals, 2.15 points. BOA Grand National Class AAA Champion BOA Grand National Runner-Up & Outstanding Music Performance winner Not to mention they had one heck of a show. Additional props.... to Richland for a fantastic season to L.D. Bell for the late season resurrgence to Marcus for a breakout year. Hopefully this year's success will carry into next season.

QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM)thank you julian im not sorry that my sn offends you first of all i can hype the band if i want to im a senior im hoping that they do well and if im hyping because our band is good well get over it. You're a senior. Great. So what? There are people in college that still don't hype their band. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) i make one comment and it goes off. well you know what calm down. No one had posted on this thread for about a week until you came in with this comment.... "people are really ****. im tired of retarded people dissing our band were you not at north texas band championships to see our band. And im excited to see what Mr Hart brings next year. So watch out." The way you worded it rubs off people in a very negative way. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) and if you wanna hype your band im not gonna get pissed off go for it No one hypes their band because it's unclassy and rude. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) but i didnt see your band do good this year. Hyping your band at the expense of others? Nice. 1. Our band was great!!! Was your's? 2. My band is good!!! Watch out. Watch out. Watch out. Does it matter if you beat so and so? There were plenty of band programs in this country that were more successful than Martin this year. You see people at Carmel HS in Indiana talking liking this?? QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM)and also to reguards on the comment on how we beat ld bell when they werent at their full potential. uh you know ntbc was a week before boa grand nationals so how could they not be at their full potential even if you march part of a show you march the heck out of it so yeah Of course L.D. Bell wasn't at their fullest potential. How does a band place second at the North Texas competition, and then jumps to an astonishing third place (.05 out of second place) at the most competetive BOA Grand National Championships in recent memory? Bell's highest placement ever at Nationals. I've heard Bell's North Texas performance and their Grand National Finals performance. It was comparing light and day. Two completely different bands. You'd be surprised at how much a week can change the make-up of an entire marching band. I've been involved in this activity for years and have seen it plenty of times. All in all.... Some of you kids over at Martin need to grow up and get some class. Your ridiculous behavior is starting to overshadow your success at the North Texas competition. Which is an unfortunate situation. Just my $.02. -
Composing for Marching Band
mbui replied to mindfulmusician's topic in Drill Writers, Arrangers, and Composers Corner
It's all about establishing your identity. Just because someone has their own style and they like to repeat the concept does not make them less of a musician. Since you're dogging on Key Poulan, you might as well do the same to Richard Saucedo and Mark Higginbotham. Sit down, close your eyes and listen to any Carmel HS, IN, Kennesaw Mountain HS, GA, or Cavaliers show back-to-back. You can tell that they were all written and arranged by Saucedo. Same goes with Higginbotham with Haltom HS 2004, Winston Churchill HS 2002 & Spring HS 2000. I don't mind Key Poulan's original compositions as much as I don't mind Higginbotham and Saucedo's. IMO, they are arguable three of the best arrangers/composers in the activity. What I'm more impressed with in Poulan are his musical arrangements...especially his scoring for the Santa Clara Vanguard since 2003. Love his arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Scheherazade' in 2004, Wojciech Kilar's 'Orawa for Orchestra', Jeff Beal's 'One Man Show' from the Pollock soundtrack, and Richard Danielpour's 'Anima Mundi' in 2003, and Shostakovich's 12th Symphony this past year. -
Your Band Director
mbui replied to Sicemb's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
You have no idea how many directors in the state/nation read and access this forum and website. Just watch what you say on here....I don't want any of you guys to get in trouble. I've seen it happen plenty of times over the years on other forums. Just a heads up before it gets negative. -

QUOTE (manuel_pablo @ Nov 30 2005, 10:06 PM) In BOA, there is a percussion judge following the drumline almost the entire time. At BOA, the two judges that you see on the field are judging, 'Music Performance-Individual' & 'Visual Performance-Individual.' Sometimes, the MPI judge will follow the drumline and look at the pit since it is part of the sheet. The MPI subcaption is broken down into three sections, Percussion being one of them... Brass - 75 Woodwinds - 75 Percussion - 50 TOTAL = 200 (or 20.00 points)

The 2006 Santa Clara Vanguard presents..... "Moto Perpetuo" http://www.scvanguard.org/vanguard/2006/show_repertoire.php Musical selections to be released soon. ----- From the title, it looks like the Vanguard is going back to the modern and innovative shows from the 1998-2003 years. Now, that's the SCV that I love. I can't wait.

Show Bands (battle of the bands)
mbui replied to mnkyman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
QUOTE (mindfulmusician @ Nov 28 2005, 07:59 AM) I didn't even know that show bands did BOA. That's awesome...I think I would have enjoyed that. I've always wanted to see a show band that still has good marching and music capabilities. - mm They don't actually compete in the event...just perform in exhibition. But yeah, it's awesome. Show bands have also performed in exhibition at Grand Nationals as well. Southwest Dekalb HS of Georgia (the band that was in 'Drumline') in 2002 and Stephenson HS also of Georgia in 2005.
