QUOTE (cinco_4_life811 @ Feb 23 2006, 10:18 PM) So, for 06-07, Katy ISD schools would be in Region 23 for band, but Region 18 for Football/Basketball? Music and athletics have their own seperate alignments.

The Cavaliers 2006 show will include the music of Wynton Marsalis. I saw it at the Cavaliers booth at the TMEA Convention. There's another composer that they will be using but I cannot remember his name for the life of me.

BOA and UIL
mbui replied to whitewing09's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
While both scoring systems are very different, the only similarity is that music counts as the majority of your score. At UIL, there's a Music Performance Caption and a Marching (aka Visual) Performance Caption. Three judges for music and two for marching. Your overall score is based on the judges ordinal. ------ At BOA, there's a Music Performance, Visual Performance & General Effect caption. Two judges for Music Performance - 1 Individual, 1 Ensemble Two judges for Visual Performance - 1 Individual, 1 Ensemble Three judges for General Effect - 2 Music GE, 1 Visual GE Music Performance - 20 possible points (Indivudual & Ensemble scores averaged) Visual Performance - 20 possible points (Indivudual & Ensemble scores averaged) General Effect - 60 possible points (40 in Music, 20 in Visual) ------ To view the differences.... You can't really gauge on who has the "best" Area with results from two years ago. So much has changed in Texas marching band since 2004. Bands like Richland, Marcus, Cypress Falls & James Bowie have all stepped up their game. I expect Cedar Park to advance to the State Championships. Not saying they will place first in Area D because it's still way way too early to make any such predictions. But, the improvement by James Bowie over the years cannot be overlooked. Also, I feel that we should be celebrating the amount of talent that we have in our state. Only a few across the country can really say that. Personally, I'm excited about the upcoming 2006 marching season. It looks like it's going to be one of, or if not, the best year for Texas marching band. I'll probably say it again once the season approaches but... As a spectator, I can't wait to see you all of you kids "bring it." -

QUOTE (euro_euph06 @ Feb 19 2006, 12:49 AM) Just think...What would happen if with the Conroe, Spring, and Klein districts were still in this Area. Add the Woodlands, Spring, Westfield, Klein Forest, and Klein to the mix. You might even have the 2nd place at Grand Nats in '05 band watching from home. Other "good" Areas are Area E and Area F. But probably the best is Area D. It would make things interesting if Spring, The Woodlands & Westfield were in Area D. But, Spring & Westfield aren't what they used to be. Which is unfortunate. Furthermore... After what Ronald Reagan produced in 2005, their music ability is something that needs to be notice now. That band can flat out play. -

mbui replied to euro_euph06's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Colts - "Continuum" Windsprints (Richard Saucedo) Noisy Wheels of Joy (Eric Whitacre) As Time Goes By from Casablanca (Herman Hupfeld) Ride (Samuel Hazo) ---- The Cadets - "Beyond the Looking Glass" Music from Propellerhead Alone in a Crowd from the 'Pollock' soundtrack (Jeff Beal) Sanvean First Concerto (Leonard Bernstein) Also, the Blue Knights will be performing music by Samuel Barber. Selections have yet to be announced. -
It was mentioned earlier in the discussion, but I just thought I'd point out that half of the 2000 Cavaliers show was original music by Richard Saucedo. The other half came from Michael Daugherty's, "Niagara Falls."

QUOTE (Aegis Fang @ Feb 9 2006, 10:25 PM) bottle dance? The Santa Clara Vanguard 'Bottle Dance' It's a routine by the SCV guard that originated back in the 1970's. Most recently, SCV threw in the 'Bottle Dance' in their 2001 Finals performance at the end of the 'New Era' chant. You can hear the crowd go crazy on the recordings.

QUOTE (TRtrumpet @ Feb 6 2006, 11:39 PM) lol, that was pretty funny in a wierd way. Whos Chuck Noris?
-
The Big Bang was caused by a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the galaxy's face. Chuck Norris made a perfect score on his SATs by just signing his name. There are two types of people in this world. People who know Chuck Norris, and people who have been roundhouse kicked in the head by Chuck Norris. I once saw Chuck Norris kill a man with a gummi worm because the guy looked at him wrong. Chuck Norris picked up an HTML book once, then he read it in 30 seconds. Then he picked up a MySQL book and learned to administer a database in 10 seconds. Finally, he learned PHP in 5 seconds and in one, he made a BBS. You better be grateful that Chuck Norris is still alive, otherwise you'd have to build a temple to honor his grave...

Vote Crossmen 1992!!!!! If you haven't heard it...vote for it! You'll see for yourself at the theatre. Plus, it'll be worth the trip to the restroom afterwards.......

QUOTE (euro_euph06 @ Feb 8 2006, 07:13 PM) My point was that people tend to assume that just because something special (a.k.a. A 50th anniversary) will automatically make a corps better. I really don't think it's because of the 50th Anniversary as to why people are expecting the Phantom Regiment to finish so high. It's because of the show. Look at the repertoire. Resurrection Symphony - Symphony No. 2 (Gustav Mahler) Ave Maria (Franz Biebl) Scythian Suite (Sergei Prokofiev) This show has Phantom Regiment written all over it. It reminds me of the glory days of the mid-1990's. Also, they are doing "Ave Maria" as their ballad. I can tell that that's going to be a fan favorite this year. Another factor...no staff turnovers. Like you said earlier, people assume that just because a group was good one year that they will be good again the next year. Not always the case. It happened with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2005 after their third place finish the previous year. However, you can't forget about the staff turnovers that the corps had in 2005. It played a role.

To early to tell who's going to be on top. But, here is who I'm looking forward to this summer.... Bluecoats Absolutely love the direction that this corps is going in. LOVED last year's music and '06 sounds just as great. Blue Devils After what happened this past summer, the 'Godfather' show sounds very promising. Cavaliers Like the Blue Devils, the concept sounds promising. Phantom Regiment Just because of the music. Sounds like it's going to be emotional as heck. Santa Clara Vanguard Looks like the SCV of old is back. New show direction, new staff. In addition, Mike McCool, Vanguard Program Coordinator from 1997-2001, is back in his old position. The Cadets I really like this new style of The Cadets. This is the type of stuff that I love hearing on the field. What I'm really looking forward to most in the 2006 show is the section with White Rabbit & Pollock's 'Alone in a Crowd.'

Got the marker board right here. Total Donated: $107.30 It's time for some thank you's. Thank you...... Vista Ridge HS for your hospitality. To all the people that stopped by and said hello. Daniel Sanchez (Xenon) for coming at the last minute from Dallas to help out. The McDonald's Corporation for their bucket of 50 Chicken Nuggets. Danpod's laptop. I'm surprised that thing didn't overheat and melt. Travis & Alex, you guys are super smart. Without your help, I do not know where we would be right now. I hope we get to do this again. This was our first time doing such a thing and it was a blast. We did it on short notice as well. Thanks everyone. Michael
