  1. I think he was trying to say.... Bands that go to Battle of the Bands, instead of, bands that went to Battle of the Bands. Anyways.... The best show band I've seen....Willowridge HS. What seperates them from other show bands is that they actually emphasize music and marching. Not saying that most show bands don't, but the ones that I have seen were just horrendous. It was great to see Willowridge perform in exhibition at this year's BOA Houston Regional. They LIT up the crowd like crazy. And, the other cool part....they received comments from the BOA judging panel. It was cool to see the field judges getting into the show. Awesome.
  2. QUOTE (euro_euph06 @ Nov 27 2005, 09:43 AM) Top Ten-BOA Churchill The Woodlands Brazoswood James Bowie Cedar Park L.D. Bell Richland Marcus Haltom Westfield Good list... But, there are two other bands that I would include under the BOA section....Ronald Reagan & Stephen F. Austin.
  3. How about a TXBands.com polo for us staff.
  4. The RCA Dome will be demolished once the new stadium is complete. In this year's Grand Nationals program, BOA stated that they will be holding Grand Nationals in the new stadium in 2008.
  5. If I'm not mistaken, I swear I heard this somewhere, but....the UIL prohibits organizations from sleeping at other schools while on trips.
  6. On average, about 8-10 Indiana bands attend Grand Nationals every year.
  7. Has anyone thought about this... If Grand Nationals ever comes to Texas...everyone and their mother would sign-up. How many out of state bands would there actually be in attendance? Not a lot. So much for diversity, right? I'm from Texas and I love our bands to death, but Grand Nationals would just become a glorified BOA Texas Regional. It would never work in this state because of the volume of bands. Just my $.02.
  8. When everything is set-up, be on the look out for a new feature called..... "TXBands.com Show of the Week" I will highlight a Texas marching band show and explain what the show was about, the musical selections used, the success that the band received that year, commentary from band directors and students that were involved, and an mp3/video of our, "Show of the Week."
  9. I'll second that. This would be great for our website. One day, I hope we get to be as big as IndianaMarching.com...they're huge in their state.
  10. The City of Indianapolis is committed to keeping BOA Grand Nationals in the city when the new Colts stadium is completed in the Fall of 2008. The new stadium is being built with BOA in mind. Stadium architects contacted BOA about acoustics and seating arrangements for their events. I think it's cool that our activity is finally getting recognition. By the way, the Colts stadium is going to have a retractable roof. Maybe we'll finally get an 'outdoor' Grand Nationals....?
  11. A week after I posted that... BOA announced that Tom Blair will be producing the 2005 BOA Grand National Championship DVD's.
  12. You 2005 reviews were wonderful as always. Hope to see you at BOA San Antonio or Grand Nationals.
  13. Our 1999 show was just that. We mixed up the show by using both styles...military and corps.
  14. My alma mater, Angleton HS, marched military style from the 1950's-1999. We then switched to corps style the year after in 2000.
  15. Good grief.... You saw them at the North Texas competition, BUT.... Did you see them at Grand Nationals? Maybe they wanted the show to peak at the RIGHT time. It certainly worked. L.D. Bell had the best performance of the year at Grand National Finals, and the judges rewarded them for that. After weeks of struggle, it's good to see the band end on a high note. It's not how you start, it's how you finish...... As Texans, we should all be proud of the three bands that represented our state at Grand Nationals.
  16. Any reason why the Reagan file is significantly quieter in volume than some of the others, and can we get it fixed? And, thanks for fixing the SFA file, Travis.
  17. Stephen F. Austin doesn't work.
  18. Just wondering.... Are these recordings from the DVD? If so, awesome. I'm currently loading the files right now.
  19. Haha. This is payback time for you beating me in the summer
  20. To the Texas band programs that represented our state so well at the 2005 Bands of America Grand National Championships, L.D. Bell HS of Hurst, TX; Richland HS of North Richland Hills, TX & Ronald Reagan HS of San Antonio, TX, congratulations. You guys deserve major applause. Placing 2, 3, 7 in Finals is a huge accomplishment, especially at one of the most competitive Grand Nationals in history. And, congratulations to Reagan for being named the 2005 Grand Nationals Class AAA Champion and taking home the 'Outstanding Music Performance' award in Semifinals & Finals. This is the fourth time in the past five years that a Texas band has won the 'Outstanding Music' award in Finals. L.D. Bell in 2001, Westfield in 2003, Stephen F. Austin in 2004, and now Ronald Reagan in 2005. This goes to show how serious music education and performance is in our state. Again, congrats to L.D. Bell, Richland & Ronald Reagan. We're proud of you. It's sad to see the 2005 marching band season come to an end. It was one to be remembered. Until then....11 months left until the '06 season.
  21. Richland also deserves some huge credit. Making Grand National Finals for the first time in band history.
  22. Wow, I'm really looking forward to seeing the recap and scores once they are released on Monday. You can tell that Reagan & Carmel were neck and neck throughout the entire competition. Thoughts.... ---Carmel finally gets that chip off their shoulder. After all these years of placing in the top four and being oh-so-close in 2001 (by .05), they finally get the title. Congrats. ---Looks like Reagan's Finals performance time hurt them after being named the Class AAA Champion in Semifinals. Regardless, placing second is nothing to frown at. They had a phenomenal show this year. It was one to be remembered. Congrats on all of your success. ---The music caption once again belongs to a Texas band. The caption has been won by a TX band four out of the past GN's. L.D. Bell in 2001, Westfield in 2003, Stephen F. Austin in 2004, and now Ronald Reagan in 2005. It goes to show that the musical talent in this state is just amazing. ---Centerville placing 10th. They have always been known to peak early, but I didn't expect them to finish so low. Looks like the depth was just too strong this year. ---L.D. Bell placing third. They have always been known for stepping it up, and boy...it looks like they did it again. After having a rough year...fourth at BOA Arlington, and placing second at the North Texas competition one week prior to Grand Nationals to Arlington Martin HS, it looks like the band turned it on at just the right time. Way to go Bell. What a year for marching band. 2005 will go down as one of, or if not, the most competitive year in history. Sad to see that it's all over.
  23. Semifinalists will be announced later tonight. Finalist bands and Class Champions will be announced tomorrow evening. Finals results will be announced tomorrow night.
  24. Some very shorts thoughts (this is not a review) before the recaps are released... I have a feeling that the performance captions, Music & Visual, were extremely close between the top bands. I would not at all be surprised if Ronald Reagan was close to sweeping the entire Regional. IMO, they were on a whole other level compared to everyone else. They just had a feel to them whenever they stepped on the field. It has been metioned before on here, but the one thing that I was extremely impressed with this year about Reagan was their sound. Now, I'm not saying that they sounded bad in years past, but they just didn't have that gorgeous full sound compared to some of the other bands. This year...Wow. After the show was over, my jaw was down to my knees, my eyes were wide open, and I came very close to having tears stream down my face. Words cannot described how I felt while I watched "You Never Know." Heck, I was standing up throughout the entire show. If you know me, you know I'm huge on emotion. Thank you, thank you, thank you for that Ronald Reagan. James Bowie & Marcus: Congrats on taking #2 and #3 in Finals. That is a HUGE accomplishment considering how stacked this competition was. I can't wait to see you guys next year. Y'all had such a beautiful, beautiful sound. Marcus' Respighi and Bowie's Concerto for Violin...stunning. Keep up the work! (And kudos to Marcelo's parents, Bowie mellophone, for feeding me and my crew french fries during Finals. :-)) Stephen F. Austin: If you heard someone yell "Be Remembered" before your Finals performance, and saw a guy in a gray shirt jump 20 feet in the air after your show, that was yours truly. Thank you for an emotional performance in San Antonio. As a huge SFA fan, I couldn't have been more proud of you guys. It put in an undescribeable mood, and it made me smile. Not only that, it made your former band director, Dean Westman, smile. I know that he is proud of you and the entire staff. You WERE remembered. Winston Churchill: Jesus. I have seen my fairshare of Churchill shows over the years, and never...I mean, never have I seen the band on fire like this. Everything clicked. The music, the marching, the colorguard. It seemed like you were being pounded in the face every five seconds. To the band, forget about the placement. When all is said and done, the feeling that you got right after the show is the only thing that should matter. You guys were incredible. ------- My Placements - Actual Placements 1.
