  1. Like many of you, I love Eric Whitacre's "October". I also enjoy Lincolnshire Posy, La Forza (ow, my tongue!), Russian Christmas Music, Overture to Candide, Molly on the Shore, among others.. good times.
  2. I know Carthage got Mr. Najera as their new band director this year, and if there are any Carthage kids on this board, how do you like him?
  3. To answer your question: The only corps style thing I have ever longed to do was to run across the field screaming (I saw a corps band do that once). And actually, we got to do that for a play-off game...so I guess my corps desires have been fulfilled! About the military situation: Yeah, some military bands are BOOORING, I'll agree with you there. Yet, not all of them are. I've said it a lot, but I'll say it again; Nac. always has a good, creative drill, and our drill last year (which I still can't find a video of) is hard to beat. On that same note, a lot of corps drills can be incredibly boring and a complete waste of time, as well. I guess it just depends on the director and the band, and if they can pull off a completely awesome drill!
  4. Thank you; yeah, I just noticed that there was a media section! I'm slow, I guess. I've seen many corps bands, just because our team plays pretty much teams with corps bands. Plus, we hosted 2a contest this year, and I was a judge's assistant and stayed all day...from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Many corps bands are different, and I was just wondering what was unique to your band, if anything. Thanks for the responses! Also, has anyone heard of Queen City, or something like that? I really enjoyed their band music and their drill at the 2a contest!
  5. Yeah, Nac is good, too, but don't forget about Lufkin! We do gate-swings, star-bursts, blockbusters, etc. Also, we did something awesome in last year's drill that no one had ever seen before - not even Nac! I'm not sure what you call it...but Lufkin's drill last year was the best military drill I've ever seen, and I've seen many military drills. (And I'm not being biased because I was in it; it was just plain awesome, and I have yet to see another military band do something that creative!)
  6. I like to meet new people, so if you guys want, you can add me on MSN, AIM, or Yahoo Messenger!
  7. Does your band director use any kind of software to create the drills for the band? (Ours doesn't, because we have a military drill; he writes a drill by hand. Actually, the section leaders do, too, at band camp, which is always fun to watch!) I'm just trying to figure out more about how corps bands work, and what they do, etc. Feel free to give me any extra information on what your band does that might be different than military bands. Military bands (at least ours) memorizes all of their music, does 6 steps to a yard line with the center of the foot on the yard line, we always march forwards, we have to be in straight lines, we can't bounce, we "glide-step"....and other stuff that I really can't think of right now. I know that a lot of corps bands do some of this, and then again, some don't. Tell me what is unique to your band, and all that good stuff!
  8. Nick: you are exactly right. Hopefully Lufkin, Kingwood, and Lindale do a good job of proving people (who hold these misconceptions) wrong. Also, Nacogdoches has a fine military band as well. I'm still looking for a video of last year's drill for Lufkin...I'll tell you if I come across anything.
  9. Thanks; I wish I could find a video of last year's drill! This was a good drill, but I still think last year was my absolute favorite!!! If I find one, I'll let you know, becasue last year's drill was AWESOME.

  11. If you guys are interested in seeing a military band, which is what Lufkin is, I'm leaving a link of our contest drill. The first thing you'll see on this video is homecoming stuff, but skip through that, and you'll get to the band stuff. (After that is a football game, but this is the only video that I could locate online of this year's band). If you do watch the video, please comment with your thoughts.
