I'm sorry, but I cannot see Seven Lakes or Pearland beating any Austin area band this year. Pearland got lucky in 2019 in beating out Cedar Ridge and Westwood. That certainly won't happen again.
Cedar Ridge, Round Rock and Westwood are just NOW PEAKING. This hasn't happened...ever. They are united and out for blood. I never in a million years would I have thought this would be possible. But you bet that RRISD having 3 bands at State this year has brought these three programs together.

That being said, CTJ tweaked their show at Area..and I FREAKING LOVED IT. It's the first time that I'd rank it higher than Reagan.

5 million years ago, there were no band fees. At the same time, we only rehearsed in summer for a few hours a day, and then after school from 3:30 to 5. We learned competition drill and learned a new drill for football games. During football games, we took the 3rd quarter to hit up the snack bar to eat. Fast forward to now. Band fees for some schools are $1500, which includes paying for drill, shoes, meals and more. I know that at my old high school, the boosters feed their band kids hot dogs and chips because that's all they can afford.
This is why I like UIL. All the elaborate props and singers don't really fool the UIL judging process. March clean and have a great sounding show and you can make it to state. It literally evens out the playing field for bands who don't have the money to pour in. Lots of band boosters work their butts off for these kids. And to the kids reading this, NONE OF THIS IS YOUR FAULT! You guys are awesome...so always remember that.

I know that a Round Rock parent told us that if they did make it to state, their trucks were going on the road to Indy as soon as their performance was done

I just want to add that props are not the end all be all for marching band shows. Lots of schools like to have them because it just fits the style of their productions, and CTJ is one of those schools. But look at Ronald Reagan. They've been one of I would argue the top 5 bands in the COUNTRY the past several years, yet in their shows aside from some panels at the front they have zero props. Judges are not so easily swayed that some props will elevate a show's score or ranking just for existing. I know it can be discouraging to see some of them and think how can we compete with bands like that, but I promise you that hard work and dedication is all that's needed to make a show and its performers shine.

UIL Region 26 was an amazing show case! many great bands that all have great potential. two bands that really are competing with each other are Round Rock and Westwood. Round Rock tends to do better later in the season once they have cleaned themselves a bit. When you have such a large group this can be a real hurdle but once you perfect this you can really begin to dominate example: Reagan. Westwood has the ability to move ahead of round rock if they don't peak early.

Cedar Ridge is on another level this year they are small but as always come with power. I expect a repeat of 2018 and a state finals slot for this group.

    Area Top 3:
    1. Ronald Reagan
    2. CTJ
    3. Cedar Ridge
    ----------------
    4-5: Round Rock, Westwood
    ---------------
6-10: Hays, Smithson Valley, McNeil , Churchill, New Braunfels

PS: really shocked to see Bowie not competing this year it will feel like something is missing for sure.

I wasn’t questioning whether or not there are certain disparities between some of the programs. I was stating that I find it sad when a lot of newcomers to the forum show up during UIL season seemingly just to make disparaging remarks about other programs. And there are a LOT of newcomers in the forum of late. Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I feel like someone’s first few posts in a forum about high school marching band probably shouldn’t be derogatory or inflammatory.

I hate the tendency this time of year some people have of bashing programs that are successful. 😔 It really seems as if folks come out of the woodwork during UIL season just to berate the top bands. We’re better than this, Texas. Other states look up to us when it comes to the overall talent and success of our bands. Let’s appreciate that success and stop dragging each other down. Band kids DO read this forum and it’s horribly unfair to them to have to read this kind of rubbish. Keep working hard, kiddos. Don’t let anything stand in your way of simply giving it your all and doing your very best each and every day!

Words only have the power you give them. If you get upset, the people using them win. Don't let them win. It is a choice.
