UIL 5A Area 2017

No big surprises there in Area F. Some great programs battling for only three spots though. I still say Richland, Aledo, Birdville in that order with Centennial alternate. -

Wow! Ill be interested to see the score sheets and how close the music caption was. Especially considering that Keller beat Marcus in music at Birdville. Did they just have an exceptional show? -

Prosper looks pretty good. I see them being very successful at State this year. I still dont think I can get on board the idea of them making finals at GNats though. Especially with the caliber of programs coming this year and the fact that many deserving bands arent going to make it already. -

That's cool! Trinity has had a solid program for years but was always overshadowed by their district counterparts at L.D. Bell. I would love to see them have a good showing here that might help to boost their program in future years. After watching Wando finally, I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed by their show and could see them in competition this year again. My predictions for the first few: 1. Tarpon Springs 2. Cedar Ridge 3. Wando 4. Haltom 5. Fort Mill 6. Park Vista I dont know very many other groups from here except a few of the bands that have historically been strong, like Kennesaw Mountain and Byrnes. -

Anyone have any predictions for trinity? -
Honestly, I think its rare for school districts to have the funding for paying for trips like that, but there are some that will at least partially cover occasional things like GNats. That was a single extreme example to illustrate my point that certain school districts are just more conducive for bands to be successful than others.

Your point is very valid. I think my reasoning when I made this thread was more to discuss which school districts in general seem to put emphasis on marching band and the arts in general. For instance, in many cases, large trips such as to GNats or other super regionals are paid for by the school district. There are some that consistently pay for this to be done, which leads the schools to strive to perform better and be competitive, while others would rather put focus and funding towards other things. (Ex: southlake and sports)

Haltom sounds great and I do like their show, but visually from what I saw in that video and an earlier video of tarpon, it doesnt compete. I love the part where they dance on the tarp though! Good luck this Saturday! -

Haltom is a fantastic band, dont get me wrong. I grew up in Keller, so I got to see them all the time and I have some friends at college who were in the Haltom Band. That being said, I think y'all have talked yourself up enough and its time to let the performance this weekend show us how good they are instead of trying to make everyone believe you off of your word. I wish them the best of luck and hope that they medal. Unfortunately, when you have strong opinions about a group before watching them, it affects how you see the show. I thought Keller's show last year was one of my favorite shows that I have ever seen and yet they got 13th at San Antonio. I must admit that it is likely my own desire for them to be great that makes me think they are so great. It could very much be the same for any person who roots for any band. -

Their show is fantastic, of course. In my opinion though the go carts are distracting and unnecessary. They would have an equally great show without them. -

Wow. Too bad for Cy Falls, but of course it is to be expected with all the devastation that Harvey caused down there. Congrats to Westwood for making finals, though! -
2017 BOA INDY SUPER REGIONAL
LostChoirGuy replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I don't have a Flo subscription, so I didn't see any of these performances, but I watched a video last week of castle playing their show because I saw that it was called Fly to Paradise and I love that song. I had forgotten until now that they were the one that lost a member after GNats last year, which makes that piece even more meaningful. Cant wait to see their show! -

If it makes any difference, I dont think fort mill will beat those four bands either. I could possibly see them over park vista though if they show up like they did at their regional though. -

I think fort mill winning over Dobyns Bennett means more than nothing. Even if it doesn't change your ranking and I dont think it needs to, they are a great band this year.
