  1. Dang that's really disappointing. Do you mind sharing the schedule? They haven't put it on the Region 18 site yet
  2. So I've heard some conflicting things on whether 5A D will take 3 or 4 bands. I had heard from 2 directors that there are going to be 21 bands and not 19. Does anyone know more about this? Some of us think it might have to do with the automatic advancement rule with region 8 since it's split between Area D and Area I. If there are 3 state spots I have Johnson, Hendrickson, and Weiss locked in probably in that order. I'm hoping there are 4 spots because I would love to see Anderson or Georgetown make it to state. My next 2 are Dripping Springs and McCallum after those 2
  3. It says that you can't receive messages, but I would love to help out with predictions
  4. This one's looking pretty scary with a few programs either being non-varsity, DNA'ing, or getting a 2. There's now only a maximum of 21 spots left. If 2 drop, that's 3 state spots in an area with around 7 or 8 programs all being completely capable of state.
  5. We need a fact checker or something for predictions because are too many predictions that are either incorrect or submitted way too early. For example, there have been many times where a contest host was listed in the predictions despite contest host school almost never competing against other schools. Also there should not be area predictions up before region has even started.
  6. Thank you for getting us back on topic. I wonder when or if Dripping Springs will be taken off the TMC schedule because of their new listing for Westlake
  7. I admit, I worded that incorrectly. I meant it won't be as big of a factor in jobs like your major of degree. I completely agree it teaches life skills and gives great experiences that won't be directly obvious to a job. Jobs don't care about if you marched with a band that won a BOA Super Regional, they care more about the things you learned and what it contributed to making you a better person
  8. Yeah, one good memory that stands out for a lot of people I went to high school with was nearly clean sweeping the USBands event out in Liberty Hill. It's all about the experience
  9. You're forgetting the most important parts. These are kids. Judges' feedback does not matter to a majority of them, what matters to them is if they're getting a good experience. This is still a good competition, they are still going to get good feedback. You act as if there are only 5 good judges in the world and they're all at TMC. There are plenty of people qualified to judge. If the kids have a good time at Westlake, then why care where they go? Not everyone has to be super competitive, you have to still provide an enjoyable experience for the kids. What's best for the kids isn't going to the toughest competitions, it's giving them good memories that'll last for decades. Most of them won't study music, so being in band won't have a large impact on their jobs, people join to do things they enjoy.
  10. I also want to add, going to a competition like Westlake and winning is a good morale booster for the kids.
  11. Breaking news: Dripping Springs has dropped in favor of going to Westlake
  12. This contest just got even more interesting. I think it's pretty safe to say that Johnson is pretty locked in after their phenomenal showing at BOA Midland. Weiss is also a pretty safe bet with their appearance at BOA Austin finals and silver at McAllen. Hendrickson has placed close behind both Johnson and Weiss this season so they have a good shot for state. Anderson is a possibility after their amazing performance at the Vista Ridge contest nearly beating Brandeis (had it not been for 1 judge). LASA is strong musically and definitely will put up a fight and Seguin just did well at the Midway Marching Preview which is a UIL style contest. And now this weekend we're about to have Dripping Springs, McCallum, Georgetown compete at the Texas Marching Classic alongside Hendrickson and Weiss which will be a good gauge on how close this contest might (will) be.
  13. Recaps are up Prelims: https://recaps.competitionsuite.com/6d94d57d-a5a3-4667-91a3-8e88c1660e99.htm Finals: https://recaps.competitionsuite.com/a821d65d-1909-434f-a67f-6d719ef54a30.htm
  14. Yeah, I am still very impatiently waiting for full recaps
  15. Finals Results: 10th - Taft 64.8 9th - Brenham 67.6 8th - McNeil 69.0 7th - Stevens 69.2 6th - Belton 69.2 (Tie broken by GE) 5th - LASA 70.4 4th - New Braunfels 76.2 3rd - Anderson 78.0 2nd - Brandeis 78.2 1st - Westwood 80.2 Edited to confirm scores
  16. Here's the prelims awards 6A: 1. Brandeis 2. Westwood 3. New Braunfels Music: Westwood Visual: Brandeis GE: Brandeis 5A: 1. Anderson 2. LASA 3. Brenham Music: LASA Visual: Anderson GE: LASA 4A: 1. Burnet 2. Lake Belton 3. Wimberley Music: Burnet Visual: Burnet GE: Lake Belton
  17. They have a pretty good judging panel lined up. I think it'll be very close between Westwood and Brandeis, it'll probably come down to who can keep up their season momentum
  18. Seeing how the event is coming up, anyone got some predictions? Here's mine 1. Westwood 2. Brandeis 3. New Braunfels 4. Anderson 5. McNeil 6. Taft 7. LASA 8. Glenn 9. Connally 10. J.P. Stevens
  19. Looks like Weiss just dropped the contest and I just realized O'Connor isn't listed either ?
  20. I think they grew to be 6A this year, but since realignments are every 2 years they haven't officially changed yet. I did the math to their 2020 numbers and I don't think they have 180 freshmen compared to the rest of the school to be UIL 5A and BOA AAAA at the same time
  21. Don't think I've seen a thread about this yet. Should be a really good one. Here's all the 5A schools in Area D Alamo Heights Anderson Crockett Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) McCallum Navarro Northeast Travis Bastrop Cedar Creek Comal Canyon Corsicana Dripping Springs Elgin Floresville East View Georgetown Buda Johnson Lehman Lockhart Manor Connally Hendrickson Pflugerville Weiss Seguin University
  22. This one's looking to be a good one. Lots of bands that can make finals here
  23. Ok here's my take from going today. Definitely gonna start with my alma mater. Insanely proud of those kids, they are something else this year. Getting 15th is pretty big, and 12th in GE? Insane. Their new director seems to be doing well with them. And here's my thoughts on finals: Bowie: Solid show, I just can't get it out of my mind that Bowie's show was the one in the background of the Flo video of Luke Gall calling Genesis 2021's uniforms, "poggers" Westwood: I loved this show. I did musical pit my junior year and the musical was Beauty and the Beast, so I was playing my timpani part along with the show Leander: Such a fun concept. It sounded great and I really enjoyed this one Westlake: Good stuff, really enjoyed the soloists Round Rock: I was blown away in prelims. Them being the first band I see live since 2019? Good stuff Weiss: The Golden Goddess moved onto 18th century France. So much good stuff going on, and the fan break! Rouse: Oh my gosh, 3rd? Amazing! Favorite part has to be the closer. Love seeing Bruckner's 8th actually being played as a closer. Vandegrift: Does anything more need to be said? Vandy Bandy! I wasn't too into it in prelims, but I got hooked in finals. The people around me saw me go crazy during that show for the music, just wow CTJ: Same thing. Absolutely phenomenal. Those pianos oh my gosh! No way that's a freshman playing piano. So much fun watching this one. CTJ brought decibels. Cedar Park: One of my favorites of the night. I really like the writing of this show. Never thought Medea and Somebody I Used to Know would sound so great together. And the crazy flowing drill the woodwinds do, just wow Cedar Ridge: Medea! Always got some of the best percussion in the area, if not the state. But WOW they played loud, great sound. I was blown away Vista Ridge: Such a good rendition of Barber 1. Crazy stuff going on visually it's so cool. I'm definitely not used to a fire drum break without them all spinning.
  24. Yeah, my source says they'll most likely be going every other year now
