  1. So as we are only two days away from Christmas, I just wanted to ask what your favorite Christmas songs are. My two personal favorites are carol of the bells and minor alterations.
  2. But the band I want most to make the trip is TSOPE. IIRC they have never been to a Texas competition but it’s understandable why they don’t. I would just love to see how their designs stand up to the Texas lava pit. I know there are a few Texas bands that design similar to the way they do and it would be quite intriguing to see the comparisons.
  3. That’s exactly what I was thinking
  4. Man I just went and watched our video, and it may not be the most refined sound, but the way that wall of sound punches you on the opening hit is just insane. We were so hyped for that run.
  5. Hello, And they are doing this thing where they are releasing part of the schedule kn Facebook every day leading up to midwest, where they will do a special announcement on the 19th. There has been some speculation as to what the announcement is.
  6. Didn’t know where to put this and didn’t want to create another topic, so its going here. I met a kid from Avon today, presumably a snare player. He was really nice and classy. We talked for a little bit about them coming down for the super regional and it was really cool to hear his perspective. Class act, for sure.
  7. We usually go every other spring, and next year is a Disney year. I went last year with the band and it was with out a doubt the best experience of my life. We did a parade through Magic Kingdom and did a performance clinic as well, both were soo much fun. I took over 1000 pictures while I was there lol.
  8. What if they announced GN to be here in SA this year?
  9. DUUUUUUUDDDDDEEEE THAT WOULD BE SOOOO AWESOME!!! I would so try and get our band director to move our Disney trip to that timeframe so we can do that super on those years. I would do love to compete against TSOPE and others from that region.
  10. I actually think Brandeis could overtake O’Connor for at least a couple years as O’Connor recovers from a complete director turnover. I won’t be surprised to see them come storming back though. Much respect for all NISD programs.
  11. Haha it’s okay. I’m still biting my tongue over those comments anyways and know it was quite immature for me to say that. Oh how much I’ve changed in a year.
  12. That post was before 2018. I commend them for their improvements and definitely bit my tongue.
  13. It does help. We do this show every year to pay respects to our veterans and to allow everyone a chance to march again. It also gives us something to do during halftime instead of being a boring band who does nothing except dance team block.
  14. Awesome. Hopefully you happened upon our most recent showing, where we added the flower drill to it. That’s one heck of a trombone section, huh? 27 of us strong
  15. Hey my band does that every year too!!! And then after the “marching” season is over, we learn another military marching show and add on to it as we advance further into playoffs.
  16. I saw!!! And in a dominating fashion at that. Good luck in the second round!!
  17. Awesome!!! Hope to see you there!
  18. Just checking in - Madison went undefeated in district (7-0) and finished the regular season 8-2. We won in the first round of the playoffs (35-7) with a near shutout, and now our win streak has been extended to 9 straight games. I’m excited for the second round of playoffs because I completely believe we can beat Lake Travis this year instead of getting blown out like the last two years. This has been an amazing season, and our team has come so far from the 0-10 season we had 3 years ago. Our seniors who went through that must be so proud of this team. Go football and go Mavericks. Kill it this weekend. For anyone who wants to attend what looks to be a really good football game (and a band who is actually performing a show -albeit military marching- at halftime), the game is at 2:00 pm this Friday at New Braunfels (Cougar?) stadium.
  19. They follow the person who has the spot, usually staying right behind them but moving around when necessary. For the reps that they are shadowing, they don’t have their horn with them. For the reps that they are marching, they have their horn and the other person doesn’t. It works plenty fine for us. As long as the student is actively engaged in the rehearsal, they won’t get in the way.
  20. We don’t have a jv band, but we do have shadows. Those students are on the field for the whole rehearsal except for the final run-through and the select few times the director asks them to step out for a rep, and even are told to trade reps with students who currently have the spot. The students are completely held accountable for their participation in every rep because the directors are closely watching and deciding who is going to match the spot at certain competitions. In my opinion, that is the perfect system. The students get to experience learning the whole competitive show and continuously develop their marching and playing skills in preparation for both the upcoming concert season where they have the opportunity to move up chairs and the next marching season where they have the opportunity to have their own spot.
  21. I see what the op is trying to get across, so maybe they could have phrased the title of the thread a little better. Try “Ways to make Grand Nationals Better.”
  22. Like banddad84 said, I think a national competition should move around, say, every 4 years, and should be more accessible/affordable for programs to enter. It would even the playing field SOOOO much. Then if a program wins we can’t blame money or location.
  23. Congrats prosper to making us Texans proud!!! Wow, first time finalist and in a year where they are the only ones representing #TeamTexas. Great job!!!
  24. That was just their prelims run. Imagine their finals run.
