2018 BOA San Antonio?
CTJBandPops replied to MadisonBandMan1's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
WOW!!!- Really??? that is what you got from the conversation from the past week about scoring? that CTJ's score was somehow false and not earned? I do more than my share of stating my personal comments, I own those and take my share of beatings for it, but it is directed at my disagreement with a post from an individual - there is no place for slamming a program and as it appears you are new here and have stated the "Death of CTJ" and now questioning the validity of there 2017 win in San Antonio SR in the past 36 hours, I feel the need to call you on it. I am hoping that your log in of NEBP does not stand for "North East Band Parent" because, as has been stated here on multiple occasions, regardless of the scores or placements, at the end of the day these kids from EVERY program put all they have on the field. Those same kids are on this site and should not be subjected to your type of response or comments that are hurtful to a program that they have put their all into, and that questions the values or accomplishments of their program. Hype your program - GREAT - but don't slam others, every kid on the field is working their tail off - that, my friend is a party foul. I will be in the dome this weekend and next week cheering for all the bands (even Reagan) and hope that you can find it in yourself to do the same. #WHATABAND -
2018 BOA San Antonio?

it will be interesting to see - I think that the entry scores for finals may remain elevated, but in a UIL year, I do not see the 96.625 top score being broken this year - but we will know more in a few days -

correct - that is what I think is the error in scoring process. we see in other competitions that you can outscore in one area in the composite. but that is just the way that UIL does it. I think it needs some serious updating -

it would appear that Judge 5 in prelims became Judge 3 in Finals - while all other judges started with a top score of 1000 - he/she appears to have started with a top score of 800 -

last time I checked, both Claudia Taylor Johnson and Ronald Reagan were both dead and have been for a long time - if you are referring to the marching band program at CTJ, I would not be so quick to write off what has been one of the most successful programs in Texas over the past 5 years and their historic rise in only 10 years since they opened their doors. Congrats to the Reagan program on their performance yesterday, both schools will represent NEISD well in the dome both at BOA SA and UIL State over the next 10 days -

dude - we all have our preferences - and mine happens to be for the shows like the Forrest through the Trees - and it would appear that the BOA judges all agreed with me last year - 3 times -

interesting that even though we have talked on many posts about the difference in BOA and UIL - while the placements change from one to the other, the participants do not change too much -
Grand Nationals 2018???

thanks for clarifying - I was under the impression that there are 3 possible endings that they band would perform - appreciated -
Grand Nationals 2018???
CTJBandPops replied to bingogooberman's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
but is the audience really picking the ending - or do they have 3 endings and they define the ending before they perform and let the audience this that they picked the ending? everyone has 1 vote and sees what they think is the majority vote based on the app. while the band knew what ending they would do before they went on the field - still difficult to clean 3 different endings, but I would question that the closer is truly being driven by the audience and they are adjusting at a split second. just my thoughts and I do not know for a fact - -

and they took the UIL bronze that year -
I have been scrambling all day to secure bottled water by the truckloads for my facilities in Austin. Boil order could last a while. the rain volume there has been amazing and there appears to be more on the way. The rain has been a huge impact this year. if we can stay dry through the Area events, the rest will be in the dome

Yes - Coppell has an indoor field - it used to be used by the Dallas Cowboys - yes, the band has used it in the past - generally after the football team finishes practice -

yes, they were disqualified due to an unconfirmed report that they were colluding with the Russians marching officials to manipulate the UIL scoring process. As the show was an obvious homage to the current administration, the president stepped in and appealed to the supreme court where the newly appointed justice served as a tie-breaker to allow them to advance to Area D competition. I understand there will be a press conference tomorrow morning at Whataburger. WOW - just cant make this stuff up - it just writes itself..... in Truth - as noted in another post, CTJ and many others have modified their BOA designed shows to better fit UIL - not uncommon in a state year - not just in time but in content. all 7 programs in the NEISD received 1's and will advance to the Area D event next week - I believe CTJ performs at 11:45 at Heroes Stadium in preliminary competition. if you are in the area - come check it out all the great NEISD Programs - don't believe the haters - #whataband -

So - there has been talk of the new bands that may break into finals in San Antonio this year, so I took a look at some data on the 17 season. below is what I found. Below are the finalist for BOA SA - the number next to them is their highest finals placement in regional events in 2017 - those with an * placed in finals multiple times - but I listed there highest placement. it is interesting that every finalist had made finals in a prior regional that year - more interesting is that the top 4 had all won at least 1 gold in a regional and the top 7 finalist all metaled at a regional prior to SA. CTJ 1* Hebron 1 Vandy 1* Avon 1* Reagan 2 FloMo 2 Marcus 3 Cedar Park 5 Keller 5 Hendrickson 6* TWHS 5 Cedar Ridge 6 Bowie 4* Leander 3* not knocking any programs or dashing any hopes, not my intent. but if a program has not made finals this year, AND placed in the top 6 at that regional, they may have a big hill to climb to jump into the finals in San Antonio. 2 weeks till the party starts -

again these are professionals that are not just phoning it in because of a programs reputation. I have no doubt you can find plenty of people that this their program should have placed better or even won an event based on what we may like or our bias to a program that we support. at some point we have to have faith in the process that it is fair and just - if not, why compete in the events. Grand Nats prelims have been broken into prelims 1 and 2 for some time with different judges in each set. lets just have some faith that MFA is not going to make a change that damages the brand or creates a question on the adjudication process that would drive away programs and the guests that buy tickets -

Region 12 looks like a 20% chance of showers with temps in the mid-60's should be a great day for band - the 6A Schedule looks like this Roosevelt 4:00 Madison 4:15 San Marcos 4:30 Canyon 4:45 Smithson Valley 5:00 New Braunfels 5:15 Churchill 5:30 Reagan 5:45 CT Johnson 6:00 -
