  1. did you get evicted from the press box ? - did not see you there last night
  2. If it’s possible to see around your over-inflated sense of self-satisfaction, go back and re-read my post. I didn’t say Bell and Westlake advanced *only* on luck. They obviously performed well and have worked hard. But it is disingenuous to say that the good fortune of being in panel 1 didn’t help provide the fractions needed to secure one of the wild card spots. It is possible to question the judging method without impugning any of the bands and their students. Grow up, please. darn - usually I am the only one that pisses every one off - no dog in this hunt - but welcome to the party
  3. agreed - it is a revenue stream that they have no intention of giving up - marketing is their mantra and they have no intention of surrendering that - it is money in the bank
  4. i would say that the top 5 for state remain the same as this weekend - I think 1st is a battle between FloMo and Hebron - Reagan 3rd - Vista and CTJ after that
  5. I noticed that the 2018 BOA San Antonio post was started in late November last year. as we are now 8 hours removed from the BOA SA Finals, i think it is time to start thinking about what next year will bring. as we all know there are band directors across the state that are already thinking this as they pour their first cup of joe this morning - some have already been planning. the 2018 BOA SA post had 1,185 replies (and will get more in the next week or so) and more than 136,000 views - so lets get started so let's start by looking at the top five from this weekend FlowerMound - 3rd gold in 4 years - in 2014 FloMo was 13th in Finals in SA - in 2015,16 and 18 gold - amazing Reagan - coming back strong - looking like the Reagan of a dozen years ago Hebron - always the Bridesmaid? since 2014 they have placed 6th, 4th, 5th, 2nd, and now 3rd. such an awesome musical program. but GE is a huge part of the score. in those past 5 years, their GE score has never been higher than their placements - though 2018 was their best GE placement at 3rd Vista Ridge - your party has arrived. placing 16 in prelims in 2017 to 4th in 2018. Loved the show on Saturday. I had predicted 3rd after that finals performance - cannot wait to see what 2019 will bring. is it more of the same? CTJ - 8 years in the top 5 in SA for a school open 11 years - and 2 SA wins in the past 5 years. shows are always out of the box - what will next year bring? how many of these programs will venture to Indy in 2019? will any of them venture out of state for other BOA shows other than Indy? is there a tie to the last 5 BOA SA winners have a Jaguar mascot (FloMo and CTJ)? will we see more changes to the BOA SA format -went from 64 to 84 bands this year and the panel 1 and 2 prelim format. is there more changes coming? so there it is - let the discussions begin
  6. looks like the walls are still standing - for now. thanks to the TXBands team for your efforts these past 2 days in the dome
  7. there is a great deal of speculation that there could be a very big Texas contingent next year with only 1 going this year, and next year is not a 6A state year. I don't think we will know till after the first of the year and much of that is kept secret until they can get support from parents, boosters and administration. the cost remains an issue and some of the programs whose names have been tossed around already have commitments for thins like Rose Parade, Macy's Parade etc. or just not interested in the cost per student. I would imagine that rather than go to grand nats - we may start to see more Texas bands venture out to other regionals or SR like St Louis - 2 Texas bands this year - both in finals and got to go up against Broken Arrow, Blue Springs, and many other bands that you would otherwise only see in Indy. slightly shorter trip and does not add to the end of the season - it is prior to BOA SA. just my thoughts
  8. Texas Band is a lot like Texas weather - if you are not happy with it - wait a few hours- it will change. i know we all say it every year about how insane this competition is, but I changed my mind a dozen times as I was watching finals - so many good programs and in a UIL State year - I expected it to be a a bit more reserved - NOT Great shows all around - UIL State starts in about 30 hours and then it will be time for most of these programs to go back and decide what worked well - what was not so much.
  9. watching on FloMarching all morning - hope to get there before 5pm tonight catch the Vandy, Flomo and Bowie block - it not I may just stay at watch in from the office. will be there all day tomorrow
  10. there is a picnic area designated for the bands to eat away from the buses

  12. Man - you took up a lot of space - but glad you shared- some great thoughts on some great shows - looking forward to seeing them all in the dome
  13. I would have to think that the UIL Area D had an impact with CTJ/Reagan swapping spots in the ranking and the only head to head they have had all year was the recent UIL competition, but with BOA SA starting in a day, it will all be flushed out over the weekend. it will be interesting to see the changes - we know that there will be an impact based on BOA SA - so time will tell if the UIL State will impact those again - especially with only 1 band performing at GNats this year.
  14. this is the lowest # of Texas bands I have seen in the top 30 in years - only 14 of the 30 spots should be some big mix ups after this weekend and again the following week with both 6A state and Gts I wonder if UIL state will impact next week with BOA as 6A will be decided on Tuesday night and this week we did not see results until Wednesday night as apposed to Tuesday
  15. I confirmed with BOA/MFA yesterday that the North Entrance and Box Office is the only location open for spectators to buy tickets and pass through security to enter the dome for the event.
  16. I appreciate your comments - and I do not see it as an attack. I will always support the program I believe in and we can leave it at that always enjoy the discussion
  17. my daughter made jokes about it - "I can still spin - I can still win" - go guard!!!
  18. concussions of guard members is an issue with programs that are pushing the envelope
  19. was it misunderstood? doubted when taken with the other post by this member in the last 9 days since creating their account. does CTJ need my strident defense? NO - this is a great program that has created both state and national recognition for their program and will continue to grow with or without my support. but it does not stop me from being offended from the comments that I have seen this season about a homage to Trump and many other attacks on the program and now questioning the scoring of their 2017 win I respect and support many programs within the Texas Marching Arts and consider this my second job - as a long term band geek, it is a job that I live for. I have taken heat for calling people out on their comments - but I have never called out a program - that is an issue. this is a program that has built a reputation for dedication and success and questioning that is an issue for me - as it would be for any program
  20. great program - I hope that they can work through their issues and advance - great history of great shows
  21. below is the statement that the score was "not truly earned" - this was combined with statements that the program was DEAD in the area D feed. I currently have no kids in the program and can assure you that I support the program in real life Nebp, on 29 Oct 2018 - 20:06, said:
  22. it is one thing to state in my opinion that a program did not fit into my projection because I have not seen those programs - we all have projections and not everyone will fit - nor is that degrading - it is another to degrade a program as "DEAD" or that their win in one of the largest events of the year was not earned.
