I predicted them to win 2 years ago when everyone else got moved up to 6A :-)    They were a powerhouse before and most of the competition got moved.  Rouse is on the upswing over the last few years, I can't wait to see that pattern continue.

Vista Ridge is similar, a bit more than 10 students difference but not a lot more.  Football has been painful for sure.

Sorry for somehow getting this onto a money track.  I meant it as a serious question and not meant to stir the pot.  It just seemed to surprise me that the same bands from the district are going so often when others aren't.  Given the info and I am sure lead time, I would imagine seeing bands like Vista Ridge going in two years.  They are in the same if not slightly better financial situation than Leander and slightly worse than Cedar Park.  Vandy, is head and shoulders about the rest of the schools in the district when it comes to financial support.  I don't mean that derogatory at all, I have many friends at all the schools across our district.  $ certainly can make some things easier, sometimes not having $ can make other things easier.

And stay and cheer for all the bands in your bands block.  It is very disrespectful to cheer only for your band (feel free to cheer louder for yours) and leave the minute they finish.

Yes, I agree on this.  Our schools in the southern LISD have traditionally been one level down in size and dominated that for many years including a 1-4 sweep at UIL three years ago.  Now that the schools have moved up to being 6A by only a handful of students in many cases they immediately performed at high levels with the North Texas Schools with larger population.  It great to have a competitor to shoot for and I think the southern LISD will be giving the northern LISD competition for a long while.  And the Northern LISD will continue to get better with the competition as well.

Of course Rouse can win. So can many other groups. Nothing is impossible and I love that Vista reminded us of that.

Be teachable. Take criticism and move on. Practice like you’ve never won. Perform like you’ve never lost. Do it every time. If you want to win, make every rep count. My kid performs every rep like it is a state championship. I’m not exaggerating this, she really does. It doesn’t matter what the other team is doing. It only matters what you do and what you leave on the field. And that everyone else in your group does the same to the best of their ability. If they aren’t, take the time to help get them there.

I hope 2019 has some fun and exciting things happen, I am sure plenty of groups are absolutely ready to make a dent in the medal standings. Both those that have been there before and those that are new and I think it will be fun to see how it all shakes out!

I paid attention to this in depth last night at Grand Nats and I was pleased to see many of the top bands using a more complimentary guard costume. Most were the dreaded body suit, but they included a skirt or overdress that was absolutely flattering on every single guard member. I was quite impressed with this fact after this recent discussion, and it gives me hope for the future.

And to be fair, I have also noticed that the heavily patterned and boldly colored body suits are far more attractive on these kids than the single colors that make it look like the child is practically naked. Kudos to the guard directors who are considering our babies and their self esteem when they are choosing costumes!

I agree, My daughter was in color guard and I saw many outfits that struck me as not appropriate or just plain ill fitting.  My daughter, like many of them blossomed early and it was hard and expensive for us to find supporting undergarments that worked for her in the outfit.

I remember those tapes, I seem to remember them saying good things about a certain soloist as well :-)

I would love to hear the tapes, I bet they are interesting.

The difference between FloMo and VR was very close.  It could have easily gone the other way between the two schools.  Timing in finals could have made a difference, it also  could be other small factors.   The differences between the performances were just that close.   Both schools should be extremely proud of their program.

I think it is two years now if I remember correctly.

My daughter was queen of the Xbox and it is a blessing and a curse.  They are included and vital to the full show.  But they get forgotten and not taught the marching skills they need to make it out of the Xbox.  The band directors and I went to battle a few times on this and they slowly started adding marching clinics for them to help prep them for the next year but it was hit and miss.  I would like to see a JV band and have them march at the freshman games and all band together for the full show at the varsity games.

Just like Round Rock last year, a band misses Finals in San Antonio and makes Finals at GNats.

That... was... awesome!!! It was so special to be in the stands with the VR parents and fans. The show just seemed even more beautiful with the emotion in the air. I am proud that VR represents our state 6A marching community as 2018 Champions!

Watching Daniel Valdez smothered in love and affection by the Vista Ridge band tonight at the VR football game is quite appropriate and oh so fantastic.

It's also cool seeing so many Leander letter jackets here supporting the band.

Proud Cedar Ridge band mom here. We placed 11th in prelims with a 9:15am prelim time. The Woodlands placed 12th with an even earlier prelim time. Not easy to do! Let’s not pretend performance time doesn’t factor into scores as well. As a result, there will never be a perfect system that makes everyone happy. We definitely know the disappointment of placing 13th in State prelims (2016) but I feel that disappointment is partially responsible for our growth the past few years. Couldn’t be prouder of our kids for making history this year. Well deserved in my opinion. Congrats to all the TX bands for another fabulous season. We all weathered the storm together!

Wow, great write up.  If you can make it Friday to Cedar Park, they are performing it one more time.   My goodness the stands maybe fuller than I have ever seen them.

BTW, there will be a football game opening for the band :-)
