  1. Yay fundamentals! We did those all last week and today. I have to go back for evening rehearsal in about an hour. We will probably play our music outside so we can fix some things before setting drill tomorrow. Out of curiosity, does anyone's band do the "midnight band rehearsal" in which the band sets drill at midnight on August 1? I know of one band down here that does that, but it's because they aren't too good...the same band that still hasn't gotten a 1 in the band's 6 year history.
  2. I don't even need to play loud to prove how much better we are All we have to do is hear them and watch the march to see it
  3. No oppression, eh? Can we get free stuff too? It will make the site more enjoyable Kind of ironic about the oppression thing now that I think about it. Look at my icon...poor animal.
  4. Ha ha...I'm sure we all will....it is predictions for state marching contest after all.
  5. OK, then they can add one of those uniforms you can rip off. After that beginning and somewhere in the middle of the show, they can rip them off, and be a bunch of bad***es playing in black....doing the leg thing...and throwing their horns around.
  6. Sorry, the Mexican within me kicked in when you said "illegal." You think I can have 5 of those?
  7. Personally, I am a Cavies fan and I would like to see them win again, but we really shouldn't count out PR or dog them for any reason. Statistics for DCI are rather pointless. Yes, it shows trends, but it won't really prove who will win this year. I mean, if you were to tell someone that the Cadets would become one of the best corps prior to 1983, some people would have laughed at you. Who's to say that PR won't start their own era of success. That rule of 6 thing is really no more than a coincidence, not gospel that the BD will win. I think PR has a good shot at winning this year. I think knowing that they are that close behind the Cavies and BD will help them push their limits this year and wind up at top. And yes, we SHOULD definintely wait until Madison to see what happens. For all we know the Crossmen will come out of no where and win
  8. Do people really not like Duncanville's band or something? They honestly are probably one of, and if not, the best UIL bands out there. They have an incredible program, and yet they are bashed here quite a bit. Sad to see that kind of thing for such a great band. I am also curious about seeing a performance by Allen. I mean, I know Allen must be good to have such a large band (success = more interest in program = better recruitment = larger band), but how clean can you really get with so many people? That's just something I've wondered about.
  9. Person: Hey band! Band: WHAT?! P: Hey band! B: WHAT?! P: This is ______ B: *random cheering* P: He/She's a (class)!! B: *random cheering* P: He/She plays _____ and is a (office)!! B: *Crazy cheering* Yeah....we cheer for everything.
  10. Yes, I know Allen can't be successful as some bands because of their size. What I was refering to was the "fight to the death" scenario. They would outnumber every band and then cripple them.
  11. *silently enters the room* GO CAVIES!!!!!!! *silently exits the room*
  12. True....I'd still put money on Churchill's guard though. The whole "angry guard" thing would be enough to make most people crap their pants. Or what about Allen's band? They would destroy everyone with their sheer numbers. If they lost a trumpet player or two, no biggy, they still 500 other people to go.
  13. OOO...forgot about lighting arm hairs too.
  14. Lighting someone's music on fire during rehearsal is always fun..
  15. Ha ha...sorry to be so graphic about my views of where the world is going, but I could go on and on about it. The Zidane avatar...if I remember correctly, I got it from www.funnyjunk.com, but I may be wrong. It was posted within a week after the World Cup game. I don't think there is one of Edward Rooney, sorry
  16. I may have been wrong. While that solo in our show's closer was removed, there is this part that may become a trumpet solo in our psuedo-ballad. It's the counter melody to the flute solo in that part. It should be interesting...
  17. 5 snares (I think) 5 basses 2 tenors 12 front ensemble Strangely enough, we have around 40 percussionists...our percussion section is pretty cut throat, so if you can't hack it, you can easily get replaced.
  18. Not sure I quite agree with the whole King of the Hill statement... The Simpsons is wittier where as King of the Hill has a rather dry sense of humor. Granted, KotH has some funny stuff in it, but I don't feel it can even top the same scale that the Simpsons has. I will agree with your target audience statement though. Just me personally, when I watch Family Guy, I feel it is like a Nickelodeon cartoon with more graphic content. Don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy and I think it is a great show, but I can't stand so many "teen movies" and "teen cartoons" and such. I feel as if things like those are what makes our country doomed with future generations of teenagers.
  19. Yes... Have you been living under a rock or something?
  20. Because we live in Texas Isn't the inevitability of death rather scary at times?
  21. I thought I should further add that the same exact thing was said of other things in the past. People never saw the use of studying atoms and elements. Today, we use that study to create nuclear energy and to find cures to illnesses. That, and as x04ty29er said, the US has a knack for gathering useless information and dealing with things we don't need to be involved with. If you don't believe me, look into the US war history...there has been only 3 wars that the US has NEEDED to be involved with rather than deciding to join or start one.
  22. Indeed...personal opinions. And yes, fearless predictions are good. Besides, once you prove everyone wrong, you can laugh in their face about it Nah, but seriously, I slightly agree with the ranking you would've given Haltom. I am not quite sure I would have said third only because they didn't quite do a show where you can really judge the marching and playing aspect the whole performance, but I would have definitely put them in the top 5. But yes, as you brought out, and as I did a few posts back, these are our opinions. We should just have bands fight to the death and see who is the best...
  23. Since... A.) I am a TOUGH movie critic B.) I heard it was a rather over-hyped movie C.) I usually wait until things hit video stores I guess my answer for that would be no. Do you own a rare object, coin, stamp, card, or anything that people would wish they owned?
  24. The theory of relativity may soon prove to be false though. The speed of light, as was recently discovered, is not constant. But that's something else.. Light does bend, hence infraction, reflection, and yadda yadda with that, but can we really say that space-time is disrupted by black holes, and if so, why? I mean, yes, there is considerable backing behind so much of there being a bend in time-space, but so much of it is in the theory phase, just as quantum properties are. Sure there is evidence for it, but it's not fact. Furthermore, part of the theory behind black holes involves the theory of relativity, which, like I said, may soon prove to be false.
