2006 MARCHING SHOWS
trumpetman1288 replied to Aegis Fang's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
OK, OK...I'll stop with the secrecy. Not that most people care , but Sharyland's show is.... Landscapes (as shown in my signature) The Canyon- Philip Glass Waterscapes- an orignal composition by Alan Sharps Rocky Point Holiday- Ron Nelson I like our arrangements of Canyon and RPH...fun songs. So...what do you all think? -
Nope...don't need it, especially since I live in a region that practically should be an extension of Mexico...besides, why buy great Tex-Mex food when you can make it? Have you ever tried green enchiladas and if you have, are they not the shiznit?

So you get to bring back one corps...

Let's not forget this is a WHAT IF type of thing, not "who is the greatest corps that doesn't exist anymore" type of thing or the possibility of them ever coming back. Just thought I should bring this thread back to what it's intended to ask. -
Not when they are over 150 miles away (we had to go from Mission to Laredo last week) Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny?

Tough choice....definintely between the Velvet Knights and Star of Indiana....probably more so Star just because I found their shows to be more innovative. -
You were out partying yesterday. How many fingers am I holding up?

I've said it before, but I will say it again, especially since there is a topic dedicated to this now UIL helps decide who the best program is. UIL at the regional level is a joke, I agree. Just about any band can get a first division. At area and state, however, it becomes a real contest. It becomes about who is the most uniform, who is the most musical, and who has the best marching technique. BOA judges that, yes, but they seem to be distracted by how flashy a show can be. I admit that I do find a number of BOA shows more entertaining than UIL shows, but UIL is out to go find the best band in the state, not the most entertaining. I mean, same goes for UIL honor band. If you want to become the honor band of the state, you don't go play an entertaining jazz chart, you play the most difficult piece you can find and make it musical. Just my two cents. And yes, UIL would be SOOOO much better with a retreat. We have retreats down here at our regional contest. We call it "Pigskin" because about 60 or so years ago, Pigskin started as a marching festival to raise money for football teams. It has evolved into our regional contest and continuing tradition, we play the fight song as we pass the audience and then we go and form ranks on the field.

I would say Al Cass for outdoor use. Great for just about any use actually... There was this other brand I tried once, and I cannot remember what it was called, but it's not listed here. My gosh...it was like I had sprayed my valves with teflon or something, that stuff was GREAT!

Me! 100 average in both pre-calculus and calculus. I am a WEE bit of a math nut. Who else is excited about my chemistry test tomorrow?
-
-you get out of class to hang out with the band director. -you have been at a party with more than one director. -you can get dressed in front of people of the opposite sex and think nothing of it. -"finger your parts" doesn't sound dirty to you. -you take up your director's offer to play duets with him. -you look forward to the first football game just so you can march at halftime. -you have ever used "toe sex" as a stretch. -you know what "toe sex" is. -you have one sexy sock tan. -you steal a part of your uniform after graduating and keep it as a "keep sake" -you keep the plumes of your old uniform as a memento. -you actually use all of the time in your applied music class (or ensemble practice, whatever it is called at your respective school) to practice. -you can outdo your director in sightreading even though he played pro at one point in his life.

A calculus teacher shot himself my freshman year. He had just recently lost his wife and he was not in very good health. Being a freshman, I didn't get the opportunity to know him, but they say he saw his class the day before he did it and that he wrote a note saying sorry to all of his close friends and students at the school. It was really depressing for so many people because they loved him as a teacher.

Well, since BOA La Joya was cancelled *big sigh*, our first contest will be USSBA on October 7th. Not sure if we are going to the La Joya or Donna one though...I think it was kind of retarded to hold two USSBA contests on the same day within the same region. Do you think BOA La Joya would have actually happened this year if they had not of raised the entry fee for bands?

Well, perhaps "make waves throughout the state" was a wee bit too much of an exaggeration. Strangely enough, I haven't heard much about LD Bell and Churchill in the BOA forums...with the exception of a few LD Bell's shows, more particularly their GN performances. I'm not trying to sound offensive or rude or anything of that nature, but all I was simply stating was that LD Bell 2004 is rarely spoken of. In comparison, yes, I feel as if CP 2004 is ranted and raved about in a much higher manner than Bell is. And even if there are a lot of Cedar Park people on this forum, I don't think they would hype up their own show...it would just make them large-headed, and I am sure they would not want to ruin the image that their performances have created for them. Despite this, I am speaking more of more than just this forum. People down here that have come to see CP's 2004 show enjoyed it. But think about it...a lot of people know who Cedar Park and LD Bell are, even if they don't come to this site. I don't remember where it was, but there was a whole thread on another site in which people argued that Cedar Park should have won state. I know of one similar to that on this forum, but just let it be known that people outside of this site and Cedar Park think that Universal Expressions was an excellent show. Just thought I should clear that up So..how about those overlooked shows? -
Vote For Seguin!

NB Canyon...we played them in the third round (regional quarterfinals I believe is what it's called) for football our last year in 4A. They beat us 19-0. Ah...those were the days when our football team was actually a threat. And man..how come there isn't a drumline contest like that down here? We had a "battle of the bands" type thing for drumlines down here two years ago, but people could only go in by invitation only. Doesn't that suck? -
I did...the latest I've slept in ages...until 9:30 Why are broken mirrors considered bad luck?

I didn't say that Bell 2004 gets NO recognition...I just feel that it is often overlooked because Cedar Park performed a show that year that really pushed the musical limits of a band, and it came out with a positive effect. LD Bell, while they did win a BOA regional and state, is not mentioned because it was not one of those "OMG...are you hearing this?" type of shows. What Cedar Park played and HOW they played it is what got so many people talking. As I have said before, I am not a big fan of Universal Expressions, but it undoubtedly did make waves throughout the state. And yes...the ballad was great. I also liked the arrangement of Blue Shades that was used. -
It's a learned habbit. Who else could go for an ice cream right about now?

The heat.
trumpetman1288 replied to QuadraticBeats's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I'm not going to complain about the heat especially since it has been a lot cooler down here than in the past. Our morning rehearsals have been so much cooler, about 75-80 on most days. It usually is like that anyways, but its FREAKISHLY humid, and it's gone for some reason. Oh well Our after school rehearsals haven't been bad either. It's been in the 90-97 range on average. Compared to the 100+ we usually get, it's not too bad. -

I know I am the one that said Bell 2004 was overlooked, and I do believe it is. When 2004 is talked about, most people will talk about Cedar Park. Granted, while Bell did win state that year, they are rarely, if ever, mentioned. -

Football players under blankets with each other to and from games...now that is an image I didn't need in my head. -
I like the Cavaliers' uniforms. There is San Antonio school (Taft) that has a black and red variation in which the green part is black and the black part of the sash is red. Needless to say, their uniforms are pretty sweet. I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Blue Devils' uniforms. Of course, it would be better if every school didn't steal the design of their uniform... I like Santa Clara's 2002-2004 as well.

Amen to that....I feel fake when I POSE a smile.

trumpetman1288 replied to jmj's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I agree with that to some degree, but consider this... As a program becomes more developed, well-known, and more successful, they become a target for other people. It becomes other bands' goal to beat them. Being the 2004 State runner-up already gave Cedar Park some HUGE expectations for the 2005 marching season. To have things that happened last year, it becomes a form of humliation to have a season like last year for Cedar Park. That's why I say to just leave it alone. Yeah, I agree...I would probably laugh about it if it was my band during my freshman year. If something were to happen now, I would take it harshly because our band has become a target down here. It's all for the sake of pride. And come on...show some repect for one of the best programs in the state! -

I know you are pretty curious about what happened last year, as am I, but I feel, for the sake of Cedar Park's band program, that you let it be their secret. Let's face it, no one wants to speak of his or her band's blunders, so let's just leave them be -
I am weird because this is how I listen to drumlines...I put the sound of the tenors and snares together and I count the bass as their own group. I am not fond of the snare sound by itself, but to me, it's like the icing on the cake; it only makes it sound better. The tenors...I think it looks cool to play, but I don't like the sound of those drums for some reason...I think it's because they are too bright. Bass....like mentioned before, a clean bassline is AWESOME. When you can get a bassline that sounds like it is one person playing 5 different drums rather than 5 people trying to fit a rhythm together, then that is a pretty wicked bassline. So in short, if I had my pick, bass
