  1. Because then we'd be Chinese Do you think cell phones are becoming too complicated for their own good?
  2. Yep, two cats, two dogs, two ferrets, and two hamsters. Happy birthday by the way, hope you have a good one. Why does practice have to start at 7:30?
  3. pastel de tres leches! Or, in English, three milk cake. Sounds retarded in English, but MAN...it is the most awesome cake... Who else could go for a macadamia cookie from Subway?
  4. At least I remembered the Jesu part of it
  5. Typical teenager = overly dramatic life many teenagers that spend LOTS of time together = LOTS of drama Does my explanation cover it?
  6. I'd play football or basketball...both were really fun when I was a freshman. Turkey or chicken?
  7. SAMMICH DEPLOYED! *fires sandwich from launcher*
  8. Yes, it drags onto the floor. I can tie it in a knot, I can tie it in a bow. My chain is made up from both some platinum and some gold. Yes, my chain hangs low. Why are my toes so darned cold? And no, it's not from my chain.
  9. I think it would be interesting to go to one of your all's rehearsals, but I doubt I could ever get away from the rehearsals we have. As far as Sharyland goes, I know I said it was bad, but I really think it's because of a big lack of motivation and the "mid-september blues" that we always go through. In a sense, I am glad that our second movement did fall apart because the vibe that I get from a lot of people in the band is that we are "unbeatable," which is far from the truth. In truth, a lot of bands down here would probably slap us around right now. I'm kind of bummed out that the BOA down here was cancelled because there was a lot of interest for it, but no one wanted to sign up because of the price jump. I am even more bummed out because there are two USSBA contests down here on the same day, which is going to separate the competition into East zone and West zone, like it is for region marching contest(or Pigskin as we Valley people call it). I really hope we don't win that contest because it is going to give so many people an ego. Not to mention that a win down here doesn't mean a thing the next week...especially in a contest like BOA Houston, which we are going to the following week. Maybe things will get better, but you never know. OOOH, and curiosity...don't you all (Donna) and Weslaco have like one of the craziest rivalries? Like...people in the city of Donna hate Weslaco and vice versa? I heard a story about someone shooting a flaming arrow into the other's press box at one of the games, is that true?
  10. Such evil actions will result in IMMEDIATE beheadings of all who oppose! So join us!!! Please?
  11. Man...Mr. Trumpet Master, I am starting to feeling a doubtful about some of the Valley bands for this year. The ones I project to do well don't seem to be excelling and contests aren't too far off. The only ones that I am not 100% sure about are Donna and Harlingen South. So here is my evaluation on SOME of area G so far from my various sources and personal thoughts: Laredo Nixon: Saw them at a game. Not looking too good. They didn't perform the music from their show at halftime. Supposedly they learned the music and drill separately and had not put the two together by the time we had played them. Edinburg North: Not looking so hot. In a stark contrast to last year, EN had a very poor sounding band. Although it may not be the new director's fault, it seems most reasonable, especially in comparison to EN the past decade or so. Edinburg: Not looking too bad for the time of year. Music wasn't bad, drill was moderately clean for this time of year, but marching technique has A LONG way to go. As I watched them, I found no defined marching technique. I think if they can fix that, then they be much better come October. Harlingen: Haven't seen them in person, but what I keep hearing is that they are aren't as great as in past years. I heard that they graduated a lot of people and so they are struggling to rebuild the band they had. It may be tough for them, but I think they will eventually pull through. Sharyland: Doing OK, but far from great. Second movement fell apart during the football game because of field distance crowd noise. Will definitely be improved next week, but a lot of work needs to be done. McAllen: I hear they are in a sort of middle ground right now. They aren't looking too bad, but things could be better. I am curious about Donna, Lopez, Laredo United, and Harlingen South as far as Area G goes. So, with things going the way they are right now, I'd like to revoke my predictions until further notice :-D A lot can change in 2-3 weeks, but let us hope things will turn around....especially if we want to end the 5A state finals drought for Area G.
  12. Your opener is the closer from my freshman year. Our closer was half of the the "Carnival" movement from La Fiesta, and then it changed into El Salon. El Salon is a fun song though :-D
  13. *sadly nods* Is your band going through the mid-September blues? You know...that time when you are getting restless because your drill is getting old and boring, and once you start competing, it becomes exciting again.
  14. Man, I "kindly" inform any complainers in the trumpets about it being heavy that they are wimps if they can't hold a trumpet up. Of course, I don't say the word wimp, but something almost as good. I must say, I do want to switch to baritone after I get out of high school. I probably will try out for drum corps on baritone instead of trumpet just because I favor the dark, deep sound. That and I don't really have trumpet player chops and I play lead anyways...
  15. Let us unite and build a resistance to this Hendrickson attack! Maybe if we give Danpod a better turkey sandwich, he will help us instead
  16. The all-state etudes...and when that isn't in my head, then Rocky Point Holiday is in my head.
  17. !@#!@#@$@#$!@$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ENDED THE STREAK OF QUESTIONS!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!!! OK, random yelling is gone. I can now resume my life OK, and now for a question to get this thing rolling again... Does it make me crazy to love math?
  18. I've seen quite a few shows without solos...most of them, however, usually have a section feature to replace it. Last year we didn't have any solos, but we have one this year during our ballad-type thing. We have different section features again this year.
  19. That's my prediction actually...I wouldn't be surprised if Brownsville Hannah or Lopez found their way into the top 5, though.
  20. Yeah...someone besides Harlingen Nothing against them, but other bands down here are finally starting to catch up with them. Granted, they are still fairly dominant, but we'll see what is in store for this season. I am hearing a lot of great things about Harlingen South and Edinburg, so we'll see where those guys end up. I think Harlingen's show will be extremely entertaining this year. If it's a high power show like they usually have, I see a lot of good things for them this year.
  21. I hope they can recover too...It would be sad to see the program that Mr. Perez built up go down the drain in the matter of a year. Although they aren't a Valley powerhouse anymore, they represented the Valley pretty well in the early to middle 90's and were the closest 5A school from the Valley to making state finals...that is, if my sources are correct. Anyways, despite that, they have been a fairly respectable program for the past 15+ years of their existence, so once again, best of luck to them.
  22. You'd be surprised actually...there are some pretty looney folks out there. What kind of chair are you sitting in right now?
  23. It rained down here yesterday *gasp, rain in the Valley?!?* and we just hung out until it calmed down. We just recently got a turf field, so mud is no worry. Luckily, it also stopped raining right before the game started. It's rained at some of our games before, so what we usually do is march in ponchos. It's really not that big of a deal except for the flutes, bari, and tenor saxes, because the brass can get wet and the clarinets and saxes can put their instruments under the poncho.
  24. Anything worthy of baring a question mark at the end of it would be a good question What do you think the area the Texas covers would be like if it were to be split up into 5 separate states (which, if the people agree, we still have the right to do so by vote) as is allowed in the agreement of when Texas was annexed?
  25. Oh, and add to RGV repetoire... Edinburg North: A Series of Familiar Themes (or something along the lines of that) -Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and other familiar themes I'll give you a better update on that once I can get it...we played them and I was rather disappointed with their performance. I think their old director (Willy Perez) left and became Edinburg ISD's fine arts director. If that is the case, then that would explain quite a bit. Despite this, I still wish North the best of luck and hope that they have a great season.
