  1. *puts wookie costume away* So anyways...
  2. Because that's what makes you unique. What do you think of the Transformers movie that they are making?
  3. You missed it! It was this morning...sorry buddy, better luck next year.
  4. Well, it comes down to what we interpret to be acceptable. If you want to interpret through philosophy that the sun is not REALLY a star, nor that it actually exists, then the false statement would be A. If don't want to go that route and go through customary thinking, then you have no real answer. If the sun is a star, then B cannot be true if C is true, and vice versa. Like I said...it all comes down to "what is real" Do you think synth sounds belong in a marching band setting?
  5. Yes...yes, I do like being WICKED... OK, very corny, but I don't know this "wicked" you speak of, sadly. If it is on TV, chances are that I don't even know that it exists. The TV in my room is merely for decoration. Does this make me crazy?
  6. because you're using the horrid "left hand technique"...force yourself not to push your mouthpiece into your face so hard. its a hard habbit to break, i know, but give it a shot :-D Does playing lead trumpet make you a bad***?
  7. I think if you have... A.) The students enjoy what they are doing B.) Directors that know what they are doing C.) Adequate funding to help the program grow D.) Support from the community/school E.) Excellent fundamentals (playing/marching) F.) Unity within the band G.) Discipline and respect ...then the band will be successful. If students do not enjoy what they are doing, the desire to compete is lost. If there is no desire to compete, then the band cannot be successful. Directors have to know what they are doing. The students can be the most enthusiastic people for band, but if the directors do not know what to do, then the band will not have any success. There is a band down here that is in this exact situation. The students love band, and you can tell by their performances, but concepts of balance, fundamentals, and discipline are not enforced by directors. The band has no first division to show for it. Funding is important. Without it, some concepts cannot be executed in a show. Imagine the colorguard with white flags and no uniforms. Imagine watching the Woodlands 2004 show without the props and numbered flags. Money helps...there really is no way around that. Support for the band helps a great deal. Students feel that they aren't wasting time in band if they are getting the recognition they deserve. Football is king in Texas, no denying that. When the band starts to receive credit and support along with the football team, however, students begin to feel as if they are not wasting time with band. Fundamentals start with beginner band. Granted, you cannot be extremely strict with beginners as you would a high school student or the numbers would quickly drop, but directors need to implement good playing habbits and teach effective playing exercises. Marching fundamentals need to be strong from the start of the season; they can't just suddenly pick up during the middle of the season in order to win anything. Unity is crucial with any organization. A basketball team cannot be great if the starters all hate each other. Differences must be put aside for the sake of an organization if it is to be successful; in other words, leave grudges/anger/rivalries with others outside of it. Discipline and respect are key. A band without discipline is like a school without rules. Respect on the field is also earned, not demanded. If section leaders and officers do their part, then others will follow their example and continue the tradition. But that's what I think it takes to have a good band. A lot of successful bands have different means of accomplishing goals. It all comes down to what I just mentioned though. Some bands go above and beyond, and I have even heard some bands go so far as doing pilates (it's an exercise for those of you that don't know) to help them. You can do pilates all you want, but if a band doesn't have good fundamentals they can't compete. If a band is rich, they won't win if they aren't motivated. So on and so forth.
  8. *walks away in a disturbed manner..*
  9. Heck, if I could make it past REGION without bailing, I would be happy. It's so sad....I sat as a lead player my sophomore year at my school. This year I am probably going to be either 1st or 2nd chair depending on how things go...but man, I just wish I could not freak out at region tryouts...oh well. Do you play DDR, and if so, how good are you?
  10. That's actually just about as much as I know as far as Valley band marching styles. As far as I know, the rest, or at least a majority are military style marching bands. We recently took up on SCV's marching style last year and hit it REAL hard. Hopefully it pays off for this year. I've known about Harlingen following the Cadets' style, but I don't know how long they have been following that. And that camp....I heard about that, but we aren't. We start our own full band camp next week. From what I hear, they are going to really hit the visual aspects and musicality of our band this year. Honestly, I just hope it all pays off.
  11. Probably going to work, then practicing state music...hopefully I don't freak out and get nervous like I have EVERY TIME that I try out. What is the limit of an undefined variable?
  12. *in a chord* "dun da" What are you doing today?
  13. I LOVE SCV 2000...honestly, no other show's music comes close for me. The next one closest thing for me would be Cavies 2002, 2003, SCV 1988, and Cadets 1983...but trust me, those are FAR off from SCV 2000.
  14. If I liked them, I would start watching MTV...FORMERLY known to play music. Do you think iPods are overrated?
  15. Ah...the super regional. The contest that separates the men from the boys. One of, and if not, THE most cut-throat contest in the state. I'm not sure if we are going to the super regional or not this year. I kind of hope not just because I need to take my SAT again...especially since I want to apply to Harvard Hope you all have a fun/great year. I know the past two years for us have been a blast, hope to actually see you all march for a change. The only time I saw you all march was at USSBA and we were walking to the field getting ready to compete. Maybe I'll get to see you all from the stands this year.
  16. Well, I learned an interesting tidbit of information today. It turns out that we is going to the houston regional as well. In the words of our director. "We need to learn how to compete with the big boys" which is something our school never did until two years ago. I look forward to seeing some of the best bands in the state at that contest. Best wishes and good luck to all that will be at that contest, especially us since we will DEFINTELY need it.
  17. I LOVED THE B MINOR!! The one that got me was the other one...that one was kinda iffy in some spots... Trumpet Master...I would scan them, but as much as it pains me to say, our scanner broke recently Sorry about that man. Anyone else willing to help this kind soul out that HAS a scanner?
  18. It's the hot dog industry's conspiracy. Why does healthier food come in smaller quantities of food?
  19. WOOOT.... Hey trumpet players...the trumpet etudes seem to be getting easier as the years go along...don't you think?
  20. *nods head in shame* By too fast for me, do you mean OVER 900 Mhz? JUST KIDDING...my real question is... If you turn around, run forward while looking backwards, turn around, still facing backwards, turn left, face forward, do three backflips, kick a can, jump in a hat, and spin around 5 times, what direction would North be?
  21. Because it costs you an arm and a leg. How fast is your computer?
  22. cheerleader (I only say this because 3/4 of our varsity cheerleaders are blonde)
