I don't know much about 1000 Cranes, just what I heard thru the grapevine. Will be interested to see what they do.

I was mentally making a show about 1000 cranes a few months ago! can't wait to see it

I'm a little late catching up on this thread, but lots of super exciting stuff to look forward to already for this season. 
 
Perhaps its my tenure on here, but also feeling the need to say something... Whoever was throwing shade about bands playing classical instead of contemporary, or whatever, let's not project that unnecessary energy into this forum. Seriously, not even worth the wasted exertion. Every band in BOA cannot be reaching for the esotericism and avant-garde styles Leander/CTJ/FM. if this was the case, y'all would be b****ing about every band striving to be weird for the sake of being weird! LMAO
 
We need the Marcuses just as much as we need the CTJs/Leander/ FM. Let's love on all bands and keep up this positive forum energy we saw at a new height last fall.

I know we always had to fill out paper work regarding their health and all, but it was always just saying they were healthy enough and didn't have any conditions that would prevent them from doing marching band.  I do think this is a good thing.  I have a feeling
the doctors offices around here will be quite busy around that time giving physicals .  Between the 6 high school bands and the 3 senior high school bands in Plano alone, that will be around 1500 kids!   Better get mine booked early!   

They do get a PE credit for marching band, but no, Plano never required them before.  And I guess it will have to be the standard
UIL physical form they fill out for sports.   I think it's a good idea.

I just got home from almost a week straight of marching band.  I hope everyone enjoyed the live blog, feel so fortunate to get to contribute to that!  There were so many fun moments over the past week, but these five stick out above for me.  
Rouse blew me away in BOA San Antonio prelims.  They’ve always been really solid but when they hit that first Rocky Point Holiday impact…….wow.  They sounded like a finalist and fit right in when they performed in exhibition after finals.  Incredible improvement this year, they’re gonna be formidable in 5A next year at the state marching contest.   Vista Ridge winning their first state championship, shooting up from 24th in 2016 to 1st in 2018.  Their performance was one of the most emotionally captivating high school shows I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting through live.  This was so special to watch unfold in 2018.  And to make that even more special, Claudia Taylor Johnson and Leander absolutely bum rushed Vista Ridge when they were told to break ranks at retreat.  There was a band wearing brown uniforms, and then they were GONE.  Kudos to CTJ and Leander on the incredible and wholesome display of great sportsmanship.   Shiner high school finished their show in 2A.  And then they kept playing as they exited the field.  And exited the tunnel.  And kept going.  Some say they’re still playing to this day.  It was so fun and unexpected, it came after an electric finals run as well.   The colorguards in 4A HOLY CRAP.  Kennedale came on and had flags flying in perfect unison the whole show, and we're not talking little tosses either.  Paris also had some insane flag work as well.  But MELISSA.  That opening flag feature was one of the best things I saw from from a colorguard all week.  And their rifles.  Just wow.  I don't know what is in the water but those north Texas small school guards holy wow.   I went to Canyon High School, graduated in 2012.  After being out of 4A/old 3A so long I wasn’t sure how Canyon would do moving back down, 2007 was their last year before moving up to 5A/old 4A.  Was so so so happy when they were announced as a finalist for the first time in over a decade.  Glad to see that they’re still holding their own.  Proud alumni.   All in all it was an incredible week of (IMO) the best high school marching this country has to offer.  The sheer depth of amazing bands in this state is no less shocking this year than it was last year when I went to my first BOA San Antonio.  Thanks again to the Dans for giving me the opportunity to join them on the live blog, hope I was able to contribute as much as these opportunities have contributed to my professional growth as a hopeful future music educator.  Can’t wait to hopefully be back next year!  

Just wanted to say congrats to all of the bands who performed. It has been a challenging season between early school start dates in August to rain. rain, and more rain. To put out shows of this caliber is purely amazing. Although in order to compete these days it appears I need to move from PISD to one of the LISD areas!

Back in 2012 when PESH made it to state (they made BOA SA Finals that year) they had a judge that marked them next to last in music I believe (so maybe 30th, I don't have the exact data) .  Had it not been for that one score they would have made the finals there too.   It knocked them down to 19th I believe.   Yeah, It would be nice not to see this kind of situation again.

I miss the old BOA membership where you could join for the year and go back and watch all the individual videos from years past.   Such a shame we can't 
do that anymore.  I know, I know, it was a licensing/copyright thing, but I still miss it!

I only saw a handful of Prelims, but what I saw was fantastic from all of the bands.  These kids are absolutely amazing!

I was supposed to attend this weekend but unfortunately had something come up so I will be unable to attend. Good luck to all the bands, I will be watching it on Flomarching.

How about recovering alumni? I’ve flown home from the east coast just for band for five different years now between college and grad school...
