  1. Hebron is the 4th band to win back-to-back SASRs since the contest began in 2003(Reagan ‘04-‘05, LD Bell ‘08-09, Flower Mound ‘15-‘16).
  2. These are my finalist predictions, roughly in order: Hebron CTJ Vandegrift Flower Mound Reagan Marcus Vista Ridge Cedar Ridge The Woodlands Cedar Park Westlake Keller Coppell Hendrickson
  3. That was really good from Hebron, if they have the same run or better tonight then I think they take the armadillo.
  4. Agreed. Their content and execution are undeniable.
  5. In my experience the alamodome has this effect of making you feel like you’re marching on an island; the structure seems to just absorb everyone else’s sound and you’re left playing a solo basically. I never found the echo bad at all. On the other hand, AT&T has both the island effect as well as a terribly distracting echo.
  6. In my mind they’re right in the thick of it. I can’t imagine there being any massive gaps among the top four, although blue springs is unquestionably the weakest from a musical standpoint. They make up ground everywhere else though.
  7. Blue Springs is something else. Like I said in the GN thread, they’re one of the best visual programs going rn, and after tonight they may be /the/ best, period. Sucks so bad that they won’t be going to grand nats this year because they might have upset a few apple carts in Indy with this show and group of performers.
  8. Finally got to watch a few shows from this contest and wow, colleyville heritage is really exciting. They were one of my favorites of last season and this season they’re better in every way imo. Can’t wait to see where they can take this program.
  9. My DMs are also open to any/all finals performance recordings 👀 congrats to Hebron though! I don’t have recordings myself, though. Sorry if that didn’t make sense.
  10. Carmel looks nice but it’s nothing too crazy for them imo. I think Blue Springs might be a sleeper for visual because their movement is incredible. Carmel’s music on the other hand, is some of the best I’ve heard.
  11. This was prior to the top half/bottom half draw rule being implemented. It went into effect in the 2016 season, following Hebron’s unlucky draw time at national finals the year before.
  12. Was that triple tonguing I heard in Marcus’ opener? Even if they were singling, there’s a TON of technique that they’re showing off and I’m loving it.
  13. Just saw Hebron’s halftime performance. Visually they’ve never looked this good imo. Really strong design this year. And the ballad should bring down the house by the end of the season.
  14. Hebron will be there, but I don’t think this contest usually releases a public schedule. At least not until the day of.
  15. I don’t know who wins this, although the medalists seem pretty evident to me (Cedar Ridge, CTJ, Reagan). However I just wanted to gush a bit about how much I love the Shosty 10 x Rebel Yell musical mashup that CR is doing this year. It is so incredibly bad***, and I hope those kind of medleys become their signature for a while. Last year’s Medea x Superstitious opener was one of the best moments of the season.
  16. Unsurprisingly, the level of technique in Hebron's opener (which they performed tonight along with what I assume is a preshow) is extremely high. Hard to tell so early in the season with all the work that lies ahead but they're looking strong.
  17. I was at the show last night, and other than SCV (Denton being an unofficial home show for them), phantom had by far the most energetic response from the crowd. Very excited for them going forward.
  18. Yeah, to me it feels like Vandy is up next if we crown a new 6a champ. Coppell is a dark horse as well.
  19. A few more items on my BOASA 2022 wishlist... -Flower Mound doing a show about classical art. Their all white uniforms and immaculate individual technique already makes them look like Greek statues, seems like a natural fit. -Hebron doing another Latin show. They teased us with La Suerte Azul, now they need to do the same except with a full, non-Covid affected production.
  20. In order of appearance St. Michael the Archangel by Ottorino Respighi The Leviathan (from Atlantis) by James Newton Howard All Hands on Deck by Thomas Bergersen Oblivion by Astor Piazolla Amen by Carlos Simon Blue Shades by Frank Tichelli
  21. Pretty sure it was Doug Bush leading John Horn at the time with Patricia Islas, both of whom are now with coppell.
  22. That’s correct, San Antonio has been the sole Texas super regional since 2003 (it was also the first super regional at all). But even prior to then it seems like a strong majority of BOA contests were held in either Houston or San Antonio, likely due to those two areas’ comparative strength at the time. However, since BOA is adding a second DFW area regional next season, it seems like they may be having a similar line of thought to yours.
  23. While that’s certainly true now, back when BA began attending the St. Louis super regional, the contest was new and still attracted a lot of big out of state names like Carmel, Marian Catholic, LD Bell, Prospect, PCEP, etc. Nevertheless broken arrow has won the contest every year since 2006.
  24. That was 2002, they beat out LD Bell by .25 in finals despite Bell topping them by over a point in prelims. I really hope one (or both) of them decides to make the trip. As if BOA San Antonio wasn’t intense enough already.
